your favourite musical

I've seen a few amateur productions of My Fair Lady but the best by far was in Norwich a few years ago. The actor playing Freddie sang 'On the Street Where You Live' with as much feeling as anyone could possibly give it but the problem was he was out of tune. He got a round of applause nontheless as there was something really touching about his performance.

A bit later in the show he doubled up as the vicar, cheerfully cycling past an open window. Another huge clap from the audience.

When it came to the curtain calls he got a standing ovation

I loved Salad Days too, saw it three times. My Fair Lady, Call Me Madam, Oklahoma!.

Sunny Afternoon ( the Kinks musical ) was amazing. For all those of you out there who are fans of The Kinks, then go and see this show. I can almost guarantee that you will be coming out of the theatre singing, humming, or whistling "Waterloo Sunset". It really is that catchy.
Charlie and the Chocolate factory a brilliant London show especially when they sing that song.......
Come with me, and you'll see, in a world of pure imagination....
Well, that does it for me. That is when the tissues come out and to coin a famous film phrase as I cry buckets.

Les Mis, we went backstage in London , fabulous experience, just loved it all. Also Seven Brides for Secen Brothers. My Dad loved it too, he took me to see the film - twice.

I've got so many favourites, Chicago, Les Mis, Billy Elliot, Miss Saigon and a particular favourite which was mentioned earlier, Kiss Me Kate; I love the songs and the comedy.
I wasn't keen on Cats and Wicked didn't thrill me. My children really enjoyed Starlight Express many years ago.
Next month I've a London trip booked to see Funny Girl and Kinky Boots, looking forward to both.

Guys and Dolls, Rocky Horror Show, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, Oliver, Lion King - really didn't like Billy Elliot or Les Mis (felt like I was being manipulated to be emotional) or Wicked (too screechy!)

The only ones I've actually seen at the theatre are Les Miserables (brilliant), We Will Rock You (great music), and Buddy (too old-fashioned for my taste).

But I like the soundtracks of West Side Story, Blood Brothers and Phantom of the Opera and the film versions of Billy Elliott and Sweet Charity.

I have just seen the film of Sunshine on Leith and thought that it would have made a wonderful stage show little realising that it had been already. Did anyone see it on stage?

At last GrandmaKT someone who doesn't like Les Mis, like me. Far too dark and dismal, but I will admit some of the songs from it are pretty stirring.

I remember about 20 years ago when a friend said she was going to Les Mis she could see on my face that I didn't like it. When I saw her next she said it was her favourite musical of all time

I hate Les Mis, too! I also didn't enjoy Cats.

West Side Story is my all time favourite and the very best production I have seen was the Sadlers Wells one. I also love anything with Howard Keel.

Have two favourites Gypsy with Imelda Stanton and my other has to be Les Mis. But really happy to see any except for Rent which I left in the interval.

I have a DVD of ' Seven Brides Etc' which I often do the ironing to. I love the dancing in the barn raising bit.
I cried buckets after ' Show Boat' when I was about seven My DH loves ' Les Mis' but I think my favourite might be ' Joseph'

Loved '7 Brides', 'Calamity Jane' and 'Oklahoma', indifferent to 'Gypsy', ditto 'Chicago'. 'Cats' was ok, 'The Lion King' good. I didn't expect to like 'Sweeney Todd' but in fact liked it a lot in spite of the gore.
'Buddy' was a time warp for me. I really felt I was at that last concert. It brought back all the shock and sadness of the loss I felt at the time. 'La Bamba' always leaves me in shreds too.

'West Side Story' but my best friend took me to see 'Jersey Boys' on my birthday just after it opened 8 years ago and has taken me every year since. It's fabulous entertainment, it has got a standing ovation every time we've seen it. Do go if you can, it will put a smile on your face and a tap in your foot.

I'm obviously way out of touch, though I have heard of some of the recent ones.
And I think there was something about Jersey Boys on TV - Franky Valli's group.
Just remembered I saw Cats a few years ago too - not one of my favourites.
Another one I'd like to see is Porgy and Bess - I love the music, Gershwin is another favourite of mine.

merlot That sounds lovely, I'm glad you had such a fantastic time. My Fair Lady is my favourite too, always has been, made in my birthyear. When she stands at the top of the stairs ready for the ball, it takes my breath away, stunning.

The Threepenny Opera (even better as Die Dreigroschenoper), The Beggar's Opera itself, and Fings Ain't What They Used To Be, Lionel Bart's first big hit.

And on film anything starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

I'm not a fan of modern musicals, (with the exception of Blood Brothers), though I did enjoy performing in amateur productions of Evita and Showboat.

The Bodach loves Les Mis, so I've seen it many times, but wouldn't have been keen to go if the lovely Michael McCarthy hadn't been playing Javert!
No strong drink had been taken when I went to the stage door in the Palace Theatre and asked to speak to him! I had drinks & nibbles with him and his wife Stephanie, and he is an absolute darling.

I like My Fair Lady and The King and I, but am more of a Gilbert & Sullivan fan.

I'm another one who doesn't like Les Mis - anyone like opera here- I do but NOT Wagner!!
