Huh, I could have made that!

Ah, but the people who say that didn't and that is an important factor.

Modern art is more than what is physically presented, it is about the thoughts that led to the art being produced.

Please discuss.

Stardreamer
There is also a more recent thread about "forbidden art" - people vomiting and worse somewhere.
I think I started that one too, which is laughable really, considering my artistic skills none at all

MissAdventure Sat 16-Jul-22 18:34:20

He was just someone who was a bit perplexed while visiting an art gallery, so took his glasses off to see the reaction.

MrsKen33 Sat 16-Jul-22 18:32:27

Where was he? Was he an art student trying to be trendy and pretentious.? The link didn’t work. I would have to see for myself. If I could see the reasoning behind it then yes art it might be. But I think some sort of ‘talent’ should be evident.
Otherwise anyone can say anything is art can’t they?

If you have twenty-five buttons and you need to place them in a 5 by 5 grid pattern spaced out on a table, and twenty-four of the buttons are white, and one is pink, where in the grid does the pink one get placed, and why?

Right in the middle; it has to be, otherwise it wouldn't be neat and tidy! blush

MissAdventure Sat 16-Jul-22 18:30:11

As you can see, I decided to play it safe next time around.
No lines.

Years ago I went to the MOMA in New York. There was a HUGE pile of sweets (wrapped) on the floor, it was art. We were invited to have a sweet, as by taking one, we would be altering this artwork and presenting a different view to the next person.
I'm sorry, I just don't get/understand/appreciate this as art.

MissAdventure Sat 16-Jul-22 18:28:50

Oh I'd forgotten it was the floor that sparked the question.

StarDreamer Sat 16-Jul-22 18:23:27

Here is a link to the thread.

MissAdventure Sat 16-Jul-22 18:19:20

So what do you think about the 17 year old putting his glasses down and people taking photos and discussing them as art, MrsKen please?
I have no idea.

MrsKen33 Sat 16-Jul-22 18:15:50

I dislike going to an exhibition where the artist has written reams about the work and their thoughts and intentions behind it. If I can’t see the point, then they have failed. ( I have 2 art degrees so do know what it is all about )

MissAdventure

I decided I'm not that worried.

Absolutely brilliant thank you so much for posting that…??????????

There are lots of MoMA videos on YouTube.

MissAdventure

No, I don't need it to be.
In fact I would put it off sided, I think.

I asked on a thread here years ago if people needed symmetry in their lives: ornaments lined up to some sort of order?

What about you, stardreamer?
Would your paper need to be straight?

Yes. smile

Can you find the thread please?

This is getting interesting in an unsuspected way ...

StarDreamer Sat 16-Jul-22 18:08:35

I just thought of another one.

If you have twenty-five buttons and you need to place them in a 5 by 5 grid pattern spaced out on a table, and twenty-four of the buttons are white, and one is pink, where in the grid does the pink one get placed, and why?

RichmondPark Sat 16-Jul-22 18:08:14

The more modern art I see and the more I learn about it and from it the more interesting it becomes to me.

Far-right, anti-immigration, anti-feminist, anti-Islam, anti-racist conspiracy theorist Paul Joseph Watson's isn't a source I'd imagine will influence my thinking.

I don't like to hear this man calling a woman a bitch.

MissAdventure Sat 16-Jul-22 18:06:49

Also, the glasses.
Art?

MissAdventure

Yes, I was thinking that, too.
I wonder if there is an opposite type of art which showcases OCD?

Yes.

I will devise one for you now.

Place a rectangular sheet of paper on a rectangular table.

Is an edge of the paper parallel to the edge of the table?

Do you need it to be?

MissAdventure Sat 16-Jul-22 17:53:54

Yes, I was thinking that, too.

LINK > Glasses Left on Floor Mistaken For Museum Exhibit

The fact of the matter is that this event is being mentioned here over six years after it happened.

Are we going to discuss the event? smile

Smileless2012 Sat 16-Jul-22 17:52:13

hmm I think mine symbolises my OCD.

MissAdventure Sat 16-Jul-22 17:50:13

The point if conceptual art is that someone thought to do it.
We can all copy it, but we didn't think up the concept. (Not that I want to dance in a circle with my finger up someone else's bottom)

MissAdventure Sat 16-Jul-22 17:47:32

MissAdventure Love the YouTube link.

MissAdventure Sat 16-Jul-22 17:38:28

No, I don't believe a beautifully made bed could be Eminesque.
Hers symbolises her struggles with alcoholism and mental health issues.
Mine symbolises my current issues with my health.
