Joseanne

Great.
Also any chance we could get tickets for AC Milan versus Bologna in 2 weeks? My DGS would love me to pick up the kit. ⚽️

Is that men's football? smile

We can add Parma.

It may be best to visit Parma after Il delfino gentile moves upstream.

I am finding the Rome2Rio website very useful for working out where places are in relation to each other and to the river Po.

Also for finding routes and distances.

Yes, certainly.

But it appears that there are two Villa d'Este, one north of Milan, one south.

To which one were you were referring?

We can do both if you want to visit both.

Joseanne Sun 14-Aug-22 15:52:10

And don't leave out Parma en route. A far less sophisticated town than Bologna, the capital of the region, but full of delights and delicacies. Beautiful Roman architecture, and Opera (Verdi) territory. You can leave out the Prosciutto di Parma if you like, but sampling the Parmesan cheese from the area is a must and a great accompaniment with all things pasta, (just never with fish). ?

62Granny Come and join us on the cruise, even for just a little way!

Chewbacca Sun 14-Aug-22 15:43:37

I know it's a big ask StarDreamer buy, when we get to Milano, is there any chance that we could hop on a train and go to Villa d'este? It's an hours journey by train and is such a stunningly beautiful place to see and is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

62Granny Sun 14-Aug-22 15:35:32

Thank you I enjoyed the Video brought back nice memories of our visit a few years ago, I recognised a cafe we stopped for a coffee just off the Rialto bridge and our hotel was around the corner from St Mark's square, DH and I done some wandering through the little passageway too.

StarDreamer Sun 14-Aug-22 14:59:51

Yes Verona too! I was there a long time ago and remember eating in beautiful outdoor restaurants, sat under lemon trees. Lots to see there! Grazie StarDreamer.

We can include Padua.

Padua would be a day trip from Polesella.

LINK > The route from Polesella to Padua

I had in mind already to include Verona.

As for this virtual cruise there will be a lot of overland side trips as many interesting places are not located close to the river Po, accompanying the tour is its own fully-equipped custom luxury coach L'aquila cortese which is based at Polesella and will meet up with us there.

Chewbacca Sun 14-Aug-22 14:01:25

Or should we make it two one-day side trips, Bologna from Polesella and Modena direct from a mooring from further upstream later in the cruise? I like the sound of that one StarDreamer, but will be happy to fall in with others. Before we get as far as Polesella, could we have a look around Padua? It looks beautiful and I've not seen it before?

StarDreamer Sun 14-Aug-22 13:42:36

We can include Modena.

If we went as an overland side trip from Polesalla, it could be a two day side trip, with Bologna on the first day and Modena on the second day.

No come with us Kate1949! I'm hoping that we stop off at Modena and it would be great to explore with you!

Only 3ft tidal rise Meryl? Good grief I thought it was much higher than that!
Does anyone remember the Venice in Peril albums that were released by Rondo Venezianno?

MerylStreep Sun 14-Aug-22 12:48:44

MissAdventure
Venice is tidal but only a 3ft rise.

Kate1949 Sun 14-Aug-22 12:40:27

I might have to feign illness and stay in Venice. Only joking ?

Buongiorno

Today a day in Venice before we depart on Il delfino gentile across the sea and then into the river Po and travel to Polesella.

While travelling across the sea, for people who would like to try learning some Italian while on the course as a group activity, the first lesson of the Duolingo course.

A link for those readers who choose to consider the possibility of participating in an optional thread activity of learning some Italian.

LINK > www.duolingo.com/courses

Il delfino gentile is planned to be moored at Polesella while we visit Polesella and Ferrara and while, on Tuesday, an overland visit to Vicenza is planned to take place.

We are likely to remain moored at Polesella for some time, with overland trips to other places taking place. Suggestions of where to visit are welcome.

LINK > [[ Map]]

As Il delfino gentile is a virtual cruise ship, we will be able to travel all the way to Turin, even though a real world cruise ship cannot.

Time for a bit of Italian food conversation anyone?
I busied myself on a cookery course on arrival in Venice yesterday. There are lots of them on offer, all different specialities. Of course it just had to be pasta making by hand. Lots of fun learning about different grains and whether one uses egg or water to bind. Then the kneading and stretching process until my shoulder ached and I ended up looking like the abominable snowman covered in flour. We had fun with a wobbly wheelie cutter and some of us ended up with straight ribbons, others with wiggly worms. It was so hot with all the pans of boiling water on the stoves that I had to down several glasses of proseco to keep cool. The final result was simply delizioso, eccellente, squisito, saporito, spettacolare, gustoso!! No more Waitrose packets for me. I would love to accompany the group on today's outing but I'm so bloated I can't move. Ciao.

MissAdventure Sat 13-Aug-22 22:45:07

Oh good!
I was hoping you'd look in, Kate smile

MissAdventure Sat 13-Aug-22 22:44:04

Like a cat's whiskers, perhaps?

Kate1949 Sat 13-Aug-22 22:43:30

I can remember walking up and down the bridges and hearing a wonderful operatic voice when a gondola floated beneath us with an opera singer treating us to his wonderful voice. Magical.
