Thought you might like this (stolen from Mumsnet)

Good luck everyone.

I am fat, i cannot lie
i need to push myself to try
to eat the foods my body needs
if i really want to succeed

my bum it wobbles as i walk
my many chins jiggle as i talk

my chubby fingers mashing this board
all because of my chocolate hoard

my belly rests upon my thighs
yes i know the reason why

but how do i stop it, do you know?
if i wish really hard, will my fat up and go?

unfortunatly not, i hear you say
but surely there must be an easier way?

im only 28, but i feel so old
with my bingo wings and my extra rolls

my joints are aching under the strain
so why cant i get through to my brain?

im really a slim girl with energy abound
not a big fat lump, waddling round

i want to wear some trendy clothes
not shop where the old ladies go

so this time i need to do it right
im sick of my clothes feeling so tight

out gos the choccy and savories too
in comes Ms McKeith to check my poo

replacing fat with fruit thats good
and start to do now what i always should

i am fat, i cannot lie
but this time..im going to try!

good morning glassortwo

I am still desperate to learn 'bout gransnet, you appear to be very understanding about the site. Are there any tips that you could offer to enlighten my plight ????
By the way....... loved your recent poem

Good morning ladybird9 I'm sorry to hear you are struggling with gransnet. It must be confusing at first. The idea is that it is a "forum" - lots of conversations (threads) about different things. Some serious, some lighthearted and some practical. Sometimes a member has a personal problem - they start a new "thread" and members offer support or advice. Some threads just wander on , such as "today I have been mainly..."
Often these chats wander away from the original topic, just like when people talk in the real world. As we chat about different subjects, we get to know each other slowly. But GN is not first and foremost about making friendships with individual members - that slowly happens as we chat.
There are a few members that have met in real life, but because we are less than one year old, and we are spread thinly across Uk and the world, we don't have that happening a lot.
Best way to get into it is to dip in often, click on the forum button and then the "last hour" button. Then you can see the most active conversations that are going on. Then start to comment, even if it is only a quick "well done" or "that's sad" so that you start to get into the flow of it.
I hope this helps.
Good luck.

ladybird9 - keep having a go, and you'll find it's easy to follow. I had never been a member of anything like Gransnet until I joined in May last year, and I've found it so supportive and often very, very funny!!! I'll keep an eye open for your posts. smile
(Oh, back to the Diet bit - I just lost a quarter of a pound again).

Hi losers!
Hope everyone's ok - loved the poem - sad to say most of it is true except I am definitely not 28 years old!!! Can't remember ever being that age!
Lost just over a pound last week so I am happy with that.
Now 11stone 11.2lbs. Still over a stone to go but if I lose 1lb a week I will hit my target in the summer - hopefully before that if I can slip in a couple of weeks with more than a pound loss?
Following my passing out episodes I have been 'washed out' a bit more than I have been in the past when 'post-episode' so I didn't do my gym/swim until Saturday. Back to normal now (normal? me? grin) - so it's back to gym/swim Tues, Thur and Sat this week.
Good luck to everyone !!! Keep on losing!

Granb Mon 26-Mar-12 16:00:36

Hmmm, I think the scales wobbled ever so slightly to the left today! smile

Sewsilver Mon 26-Mar-12 16:04:47

Oh dear 5lb on!! Seem to be on yoyo. Did go out for large meal with friends last night.

Carol Mon 26-Mar-12 16:16:57

Comfort eating - I'm losing my motivation and have been strict with myself today - porridge for breakfast, home made soup for lunch and just had a bowl of strawberries to keep me going. Not lost any weight this week.

raggymac Mon 26-Mar-12 16:30:09

Might have lost half a pound this week but I don't usually look at the fractions of a pound. Seem to have got a bit stuck at the moment. I don't know why as I am doing all the same things as in the previous weeks when I have lost

Next week my daughter and her family are coming to stay for a week so I might not be posting on here. I am looking forward to seeing my two little grandchildren who I don't see as often as I would like due to distance

grannyactivist Mon 26-Mar-12 21:05:46

Still sticking rigidly to my plan, even though we've been away for a week and stayed in hotels with lovely food. Eating mostly fruit and veg; I make a huge vat of fruit salad and portion it to a takeaway carton for each day, then make an equally large pan of vegetable soup which gets eaten for lunch or dinner. I have a small amount of starch and protein, e.g. poached egg on a muffin and I've lost more weight in a month than I have in the previous year. I've just bought a new M&S dress in a smaller size - and it FITS. Yippee.

Notsogrand Mon 26-Mar-12 21:24:46

Loved the poem!
Well done to our losers, keep going to our stickers and don't give up to those who may temporarily be going in the wrong direction. We've all been there!
I've lost a pound this week. Was hoping for more as I've stuck to the right food, only had wine once in the week and have considerably increased my levels of walking etc. But a pound is ok and it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. confused
Has anyone else tried Nordic Walking? I had my first session last week and loved it. Going again tomorrow. Apparently, it burns off twice the calories of ordinary walking, so we'll see.
Have a good week everyone!

glassortwo Mon 26-Mar-12 21:29:08

sba another one in the right direction smile
granb grin I hope they manage to wobble a bit further next week.
sew never mind, hope you enjoyed your meal it will be lying heavy so dont panic too much.
Come on carol you can do it!!!! What have you got to look forward to this summer anything where you want to wear something special? Just try and focus and you will be fine.
raggy I think you may need to shake things up a bit.... try not to eat the same breakfast, and vary the foods you eat our bodies get complacent.
Enjoy your time with the family smile

Carol Mon 26-Mar-12 21:32:09

Thanks for the motivational push glass. Got a September wedding when I shall be 'best woman' and give my brother away, so I've got to make it. Bit of comfort eating in the evening, worrying about poorly sister - a cake will not make her better, so it's a daft way to behave.

glassortwo Mon 26-Mar-12 22:17:47

carol I knew you had something coming up but my memory is terrible, if you are made to comfort eat you will at the slightest bit of stress. I am the same I find that I need to fill my time doing things to stop my hand putting everything in sight in my mouth. Best Woman you need to look your best, just think of how good you will look without that biscuit.cake etc spoiling the effect. sending you a hug, and I hope your sister improves.

Carol Mon 26-Mar-12 22:26:08

glass I know the theory about comfort eating, what to do to stop myself, how to distract, divert, delay, substitute etc. and I still toddle off to the fridge to taunt myself with goodies that should not be in there in the first place. When I shopped a few days ago, I bought fresh fish, vegetables and fruit, lots of low cal juices, salads, and I have eaten sensibly today, but as soon as my eye is off the ball, I manage to find crisps, bread, butter and cheese. Giving myself a metaphorical kick - I really do have to keep on track.

glassortwo Mon 26-Mar-12 22:31:45

You can do it carol I have every faith in you.

susiecb Tue 27-Mar-12 08:16:08

Another pound lost and just 9lb to go to my target I think my face might be suffering so ordered a huge amount of Clarins which incidentally is cheaper on line.

GrannyK Tue 27-Mar-12 15:00:24

Pleased to report that I have stayed on my target weight this week.

Yippee!

That sums it up really- my objective for the future is nothing more complicated! (particularly with two weddings coming up in April and May)
Thank goodness for the sunshine - have been out gardening furiously which always helps , now just have to be sensible about the eating too .

Well done to everyone who has lost weight and stick with it everyone else .

Notsogrand Tue 27-Mar-12 16:53:21

I'm definitely not going to post a link on this thread about the latest research which suggests eating chocolate helps you to stay slim.
I wouldn't do anything like that. It would be mean.

Sbagran Tue 27-Mar-12 16:57:39

Oh Carol! How I know what you mean - it's amazing what you can find when you really go on a nibble mission! I do exactly the same! Even the GC 'sweetie box' sometimes gets hit and that is sad!!! blush
If Glassortwo doesn't mind I will add a post each evening for the rest of this week admitting (or otherwise?) whether or not I have been on a nibble-mission! Will you do the same - perhaps just knowing we have to face up and confess will stop us succumbing? What do you think?

Carol Tue 27-Mar-12 17:01:24

Good idea sbagran. My first confession is the jelly beans that are left in a bottle from Christmas. I decided I would keep them 'to put on top of cupcakes when the grandchildren do some baking.' I had some more last night.

At this rate, there will be none left!

Carol Tue 27-Mar-12 17:02:41

Notso! You are wicked! grin
