Bought this book over a week ago and it's a veritable treasure trove of great, tasty recipes. I'm just eating a sensible breakfast and lunch then using o e of their recipes for dinner, and can already notice a difference of a couple of pounds in only a week.

Would definitely recommend.

Success! I've managed to order my Hairy Biker Diet book from Amazon. But choose the free five day delivery - which means apparently my book should arrive between the 8th and 13th September! I'll just have to stay fat a while longer.

nfkdumpiling the recipes are online too. smile

I thought the hairy's had an impressive weight loss last night but dont loook any better as they are so hairy - please have a tidy up lads.

I thought Dave? (I get them muddled up) looked very smart in his snazzy new suit. When did they go to America (Mississippi Adventure?) Hope it was before the diet otherwise they'll have to do it all over again.

Dave was the guest on Countdown last week. He turned out to be an interesting character. There's much more to him than cooking!

I dunno - all this criticism of the Hairy Bikers because they are hairy...
take no notice, chaps!

I've watched quite a lot of their output, and I like the genuine bonhomie and sense of fun that pervade them. Perhaps the most enjoyable cooking programmes since the departure of the late lamented K Floyd? Or the two fat ladies...

I adored Jennifer!

Some of my nicest boyfriends had beards - then I met ex and he had a straggly goatee! [yuk emoticon]

This book is fast becoming my bible. I'd given up dieting as it doesn't work and just ate sensibly but could never shift that extra 10lbs. However, I'm working my through these recipes and when I jumped on the scales this morning another 2lb has vanished. Not treating it as a diet book, just as a recipe book with tasty and filing ideas. DH/MOF happy too.

(Certain recipes call for boneless, skinless chicken thighs. I only eat free range so these can be difficult and/or expensive to buy. So invested in a cheap boning knife.)

jeni Fri 31-Aug-12 09:34:43

Got on the scalesgrin

merlotgran Fri 31-Aug-12 10:39:53

I do my shopping list with the Hairy Dieters by my side (the book, they wouldn't fit on my sofa!) Other recipes can easily be adapted with their weight loss recommendations. I was disappointed that after the first half stone my weight hasn't shifted in over a week but then I remembered to measure my waist. grin flag

Nanadogsbody Fri 31-Aug-12 11:54:12

Love the image of the Hairies on your sofa smile 'Waisting away' are you Merlot?

Nanadogsbody Fri 31-Aug-12 12:09:51

Sorry jeni well done too.

merlotgran Fri 31-Aug-12 17:36:12

I'm a long way off waisting away, Nanadogs grin We're having the chilli and ginger salmon tonight. [yummy emoticon]

Just got the book and I'm off to the shops tomorrow! The recipes look easy and not overly expensive either so here goes.........

Wasn't impressed with the Cottage Pie, too tomatoey..? Is that a word? Did I measure everything out accurately? First disappointment. If anyone else tries this recipe can you feed back please? hmm

merlotgran Sat 01-Sept-12 16:09:04

I don't like tomatoes in Cottage Pie, Nanadogsbody so I left them out and just added a little extra stock. I'm not sure Cottage Pie was ever intended to include tomatoes but I could be wrong - you might just as well make lasagne. DH moans that too many recipes have tomatoes in them these days.

That's true merlot don't know why I didn't think of that myself. Just blindly following the recipe perhaps. I do a lovely low fat 'cottage pie' anyway using turkey mince and topping it with 4-veg mash (equal portions of mashed carrot, parsnip, sweet potato and potato). Grandsons love it.

We're going to try their lasagne recipe this evening. It's in the oven and smells delicious. Using leek 'sheets' instead of pasta worked really well when making it.

Just had notification from Amazon (other outlets available) that my copy of Hairy Dieters book is on its way. I LOVE cookery books but have restrained my self lately as many recipes from the tv programmes are on the internet. I have a cupboard full of books which have hardly been used and some which are literally falling apart...ie Good Housekeeping book of Jams and Preserves (purchased in August 1969!!) which is literally held together with jams and preserves splashed on pages!!!! Another favourite is Cooking for Compliments, circa 1967. Most used is Good Housekeeping Basic Cookery which was a most appreciated wedding present in 1967!!! What other recipe books do other gransnetters return to time and time again.?
Just realised its wine o'clock!!!!! how time flies.....wine

Rosiebee Wed 05-Sept-12 20:12:30

Delia's original Cookery course from the 70s. It's held together with tape now and most used pages regularly drop out. But it's the one I always turn to for basic recipes.
Now off to the Book People to check out the Hairy Dieters Book!

marigold1 Wed 05-Sept-12 20:23:23

Right! I've read enough............ off to order the Hairy Dieters, hope Amazon has restocked!

merlotgran Wed 05-Sept-12 20:27:35

The lasagne was delicious. The leek sheets, once cooked, were not easy to cut with a knife so I used scissors grin
I use my old school cookery book for preserves and christmas pudding and Keith Floyd's books are often in use.

gma Fri 07-Sept-12 13:23:25

Today was never going to be an easy day for me, so I decided to cook something special to keep our spirits up. The peppered steak with mushrooms was absolutely delicious & Mr Dogsbody was positively drooling.
