I have just joined weightwatchers, this is my first week and tomorrow is my first weigh in. I just wondered if any of you have any experience of WWs. If so do you have any advice?

The 5.2 diet seems very popular here but I doubt I could manage on 500 cals. I get hunger pangs at work at the best of times!

Any advice would be greatly appreciatedsmile

Babs have a look at the Monday weigh in you will find lots of tips there, glassortwo is a fab mind of information when it comes to advice and you will pick up tips from the other girls,I have just reached my target weight with SW and keep up to date with the Monday weigh in just to keep on track.

IMHO the 5:2 diet is far better than W/W.
I have tried W/W and Slimmer's World. After a few weeks/months I got totally fed up with restricting my food, feeling guilty if I went out for a meal for example. With the 5:2, the fasting days need not be bad even if you're working- 2 eggs scrambled for breakfast- 150 calories, cup of slimmer soup for lunch- about 60 cals, leaving you over 250 for supper. Buy Quorn Cottage pie, half a large one is 183 cals, or the individual ones similar value, served with loads of veg. Keeps you well within 500 cals. Fruit teas at regular intervals during the day. Hunger pangs? Have another fruit tea!
I have lost more than twice as much weight in 6 weeks doing this, than I did in 6 months doing either of the other types.

I lost several stone in 14mths with WW then got pregnant with DD. Lost it again and got pregnant with DS. I have tried WW since and can't loose more than a few lbs [frown]
I find it much harder as I get older.

Did WW several years back, lost 2 stone. Gradually put it back plus a little more. Joined again, only went to 1 meeting before I realised that the same would happen again, and cost me! Been doing the 5:2 for 11 months, lost 3st and reached first goal. It has become an eating way of life. Can be tricky at first, but when you see the weight go, it's the best motivator. Also you can eat anything you want, even on fast days, as long as only 500cals. Try to plan a 500 cal menu in advance for fast days, it helps.
BBC did a diet comparison programme, based on cost, the cost per pound lost was huge.( can't remember exactly, but 10s of £s)
Lots of support from gransnetters who are making the same journey. Good luck. XX

Thanks for all your advice it's great to hear from you all. smile

Well I lost 2lbs this week so I am quite pleased though I can't say it's been easyhmm I have paid for the next 4 weeks - special offer £10- so I will stick with it for a while.

I have a growing curiosity about the 5.2 diet but at the moment I am committed to WW.

glammanana I will definitely take a look at the Monday weigh in so see you there smile

flowers to all fellow dieters!

babs Well done on your first week, buying the months countdown is motivation to keep going. I did WW a few years ago and lost quite a few stones, but got bored with the constant counting points and decided to have a go at SW and it suits me down to the ground no weighing or measuring, and only count your syns or treats. I have tried the 5:2 but it does not suit me, but like all plans its a case of finding the plan that fits in with your life and family.
Look forward to seeing you on Monday smile

Babs1952 Thu 04-Jul-13 21:22:51

Babs1952: well done on your start weight loss. It is a great motivator to see those first lbs go! Hope you reach your goal soon.x

Babs1952 I have been following weight Watcher Pro points (on line) for the last 7 weeks. I have lost 11 lbs and that's with two wends away and eating out for celebrations a few times. I like it as you can eat anything as long as you stay within your points. I did feel hungry for the first few days but you gradually learn what fills you up. I am now enjoying working out that out. If you like fruit and veg. there will be no problem as they are all zero points. Good luck.

Babs1952 Fri 05-Jul-13 21:50:29

Hi ginny I have been hungry some times but I think I was trying to manage on to few points during the day. I think I need to eat little and often. Some of the ww recipes I have cooked are really niceshock my DH has enjoyed them too! We love fruit & veg grin

You have done really well and it helps me to hear of your success! So good to hear from yousmile

Thanks to everyone for your supportflowers

Weightwatchers everytime - I lost 2 stone in a year with their Pro points diet. Because it came off gradually it hasn't gone back on and it changed my way of eating. They are brilliant and so supportive if you get a good leader. I feel so much healthier and don't get any heartburn anymore (which I'd had for years) My local Indian takeaway even made a WW curry for me with no ghee in it.

marton66 Sun 04-Aug-13 16:03:52

I follow the weight watchers plan, I have lost almost 5 stone on it, just another few pounds to lose............never feel hungry, and pile my plate high with veg, and I eat lots of fruit .

My WW scales help so much to check the points of meat etc, I would not be without them.

Good luck, stay to meetings too, it really helps .

ginny Sun 04-Aug-13 17:13:35

Wow! Well done marton66. I hope I can do as well as you.

Do you use the WW cookery books I have found them very good and serve the meals to friends and family too.

Gally Mon 05-Aug-13 05:57:02

My DD is on the production team for the WW cookery books and the Magazine! It's good for her to hear some feed back from you. She has been here for a week with the gc's and been working on the next book. She has just lost her latest baby weight by using the WW recipes - it always seems to work for her.
Don't tell her, but I do the 5:2 blush

coastwallker Mon 05-Aug-13 07:51:58

I would recommend WW. I am 6lbs away from my goal weight and have lost almost 9 stones, the last five with WW. It does take a bit of getting used to, but it has taught me to eat healthily and about how little the body actually needs to survive.
My tip would be to use the extra 49 points for the week. I aim to eat between 26 and 30 a day and am steadily losing 1lb a week.
Weigh in this morning so fingers crossed

ginny Mon 05-Aug-13 08:24:25

Wow and wow again. Well done coastwalker I will use you and Marton66 as my inspiration. I think that my main problem has been portion sizes. I rarely buy sweets and ready made meals are a once in a blue moon thing. We eat 'good' fresh homemade food and the ww books have taught me that I don't need the large portions ..I love cooking and baking so using these books satisfies me.

Babs1952 Mon 05-Aug-13 13:01:22

Hi to all you WW people! So good to hear all the positive things you have to sayI I was weighed on Thursday evening and I had gained 1/2lb! I have to be truthful and say I didn't deserve to lose as I'd been stressed so I did a bit of comfort eating and wine Never mind I lost 2lbs the previous week I have lost 5lbs in total.

You have all done really well flowers it is so encouraging!

marton66 Wed 07-Aug-13 22:18:51

Yes I do, but also adapt many recipes to the WW way, and I find the WW scales and the calculater invaluable for this.....well worth the initial expence !!

Good luck and keep going x

flowerfriend Thu 08-Aug-13 09:25:13

Although I do the 5:2 diet I use many weightwatchers recipes but not on the 500 calories days.

Different diets work for different people. As many have said on the 5:2 diet topic, it's just two days out of the week you are dieting and you have the other five to look forward to when, or rather, if you feel deprived.

One of the things that has put me off WW is that I have a friend who has been with WW for years (more than 15) and is still overweight!

Babs1952 Mon 12-Aug-13 22:15:31

Well Flower That's enough to put anyone off! I was talking to a lady at my meeting who had been a member for a year and had lost a stone. I'm sorry but I am hoping for better results and at the moment I have lost 7lbs in 6 weeks so fingers crossed I'll be luckyhmm

Babs1952 Mon 12-Aug-13 22:26:28

Marton I have the calculator a good WW cook book and the app on my phone all of which seem to help. I just need an injection of will power some timesgrin

ginny Tue 13-Aug-13 08:41:35

Flowerfriend I think that's down to your friend not WW. grin

flowerfriend Tue 13-Aug-13 09:09:45

Babs1952 Good on you for doing so well. I did say that we are not all the same and different schemes suit different people.

Yesterday I had a bad day on the 5:2 diet. (A 500 cal. day) and I ended up eating a couple of biscuits and drinking tea with sugar after supper. Somehow knowing I could have the biscuits today didn't help as I was feeling low mentally as well as physically.
