Whitewave I don't eat 'diet' food. Yesterdays list fyi-
Triple pack M&S sandwiches, bowl of unsalted peanuts and 2 tangerines for lunch.
Midlothian afternoon - 2 large slices of fruit cake and 2 slices of wholemeal toast and lurpak
Supper- 4pieces of prawn toast, small pky of sushi, 2 teriyaki chicken pieces, activitia yoghurt and 2 tangerines plus a large glass of wine.
Not exactly stinting myself! Just what I fancied eating yesterday. Am playing the long game and enjoying every mouthful.
Lunch will be delayed today depending on the restaurant. Fine. Not hungry.

You are right Jane about not being a scale slave, I was tempted! ?
Just completed a very long car journey, so no tempting food to snack on. Stopped at 1 pm for soup and a roll. (18 hours fast)
I’m just about to have tea and a mini mince pie. I haven’t really felt hungry today.

Amazingly, after grazing on choc birthday cake, sausage rolls (plural), chicken wings and belly pork (in a sticky sauce), etc, etc all yesterday afternoon, I was actually half a pound lighter this morning! But I’ve still stuck to the 16:8. Tomorrow will be interesting!

I weigh myself daily to get a mean average and keep on the straight and narrow. It works for me.

We normally eat our evening meal at about 5.30pm then sometimes have a snack about 9.30 before going to bed. I can then happily go through until lunchtime without anything...but that snack messes up the 16 hour fast...any ideas how to get round this one without cutting it out when I fancy a snack?

Maybe have more at 5.30, main, pudding and cheese and biscuits? Or have your meal a little later.
We usually eat at 7.30 in the evening, but have now brought it forward to 6.30 - 7 , so that the 16 hours is easily managed.

I’ve just read that you don’t want to cut out your snack. I can’t think of anything other than brining the snack forward an hour and fasting longer the next day.

Try replacing the snack with a hot drink? After a day or two you get used to it. My original problem with this way of losing weight was just plain habit. But that can mutate into different habits...

I've found sticking to the 16:8 fairly easy (though I do feel a bit hungry before my first meal at 10am) since Jane's first post. Today I went out for (a delicious!) lunch and felt absolutely stuffed afterwards. I agree that your stomach seems to shrink on this "diet" which I think I'll stick to even after I've lost the weight, but maybe make the fast shorter? Does that seem reasonable Jane?

Anya you are right ofcourse!! But it is a real treat that snack and I'm trying to think of an alternative so I keep the treat but do the 16 hours. Very light later lunch seems the answer the days after I have an evening snack!

Surely the whole point of dieting is a little bit of sacrifice so if you want to do the 16 it's got to be one end of the day or the other but if your metabolism allows maybe you can get away with it , then it's just called cutting down surely

I'm interested in the science behind fasting diets - is anyone logging their intake so that any weight loss can be accredited either to the fasting or possible reduced intake?

Madgran you eat your dinner very early, could you not delay it until at least 6.30 then it would be easier not to snack.

Deprivation (Sacrifice!) is a set up for failure in my view! Once you cant have something it becomes a battle of wills to not have it .....the vicious cycle of dieting in my view! So, all I'm trying to do is find a way of changing my day to day eating to the 16:8 - because intermittent fasting has proven health benefits, rather than specific weightloss- without creating that "psychological warfare" with "deprivation"! Having asked the question, looked at replies and thought more about it, I think I will do as I said the days after I have a snack in the evening! I think it will probably work for me

* Riverwalk* ...yup, but my husband needs persuading! Gradually moving it later by 10 mins at a time at the mo whilst we both get used to it!' He's interested in the fasting health benefits too. Neither of us really need to lose weight. (some may remember that I have just unexpectedly lost weight by cutting back on saturated fat after being told my cholesterol was up - on another thread)

Messed up today. I’ve just had a breakfast - just within the 16 hours as we ate early last evening. But with a late lunch and then dinner at around 5.30 I shall be outside the 8 hours. Start again tomorrow!!

Takes me back to my younger days when I was two stones lighter with no effort at all, and the occasional snickers bar! I feel tons better with no breakfast. Main meal can either be midday or early evening depending on what we're doing that day. Plus one other light meal/snack. So yesterday, my midday light meal was a bowl of soup and a wholemeal roll with BUTTER, then main meal of skin-on, crispy chicken with Asian style pesto and stir fried cabbage and noodles. Delish! smile

I have been inspired by you all. I’ve been doing the 5:2 for a while and have lost 14 pounds. I’m relatively happy with my weight now, but I feel that I could do the 16:8 without too much difficulty as a long term way of eating. I’ve managed 2 days so far! Onwards and upwards (or downwards, hopefully).

I've lost three and feel very in control, ate a gorgeous full breakfast at 11 today on way back from hospital having got good news with husband and going out to celebrate again tonight, well why not, as long as I eat before 8 I reckon I'm allowed an extra hour today and will wait until midday tomo so all good here
