Tell us how you are getting on

whitewave Tue 14-Nov-17 16:56:54

I’m doing ok. Except yesterday I completely forgot the time and ate at 6pm instead of 5pm, and couldn’t delay breakfast this morning as dog walking.

But in theory doing ok.

Salmon with salsa today which is very slimming

I've been doing this for 9 days now. Like another poster I'm afraid of the scales and will not weigh myself until my trousers start falling down. However - this morning I managed to get a belt done up ( on the second hole ) that wouldn't do up at all 3 weeks ago.
I had friends for coffee yesterday and gave them the biscuits to take away so I wouldn't be tempted. That wouldn't have happened 3 weeks ago either.
I'm managing the 16:8 between 12 and 8pm, but do get very hungry. I find myself reading cookery books as a poor substitute for food. I should get out more.

whitewave do you catch many salmon whilst you're doing the salsa?

Welshwife Wed 15-Nov-17 14:16:35

I have been doing this. 16:8 for about a week and a half now. I have never been a breakfast person so a hot Choc first thing and then nothing till lunchtime suits me fine. We try and eat our main meal at lunchtime and then I eat little in the evening - depending on what DH has I may have a little but if I don't feel hungry I just have an apple. I have lost a. couple of pounds but the real benefit is that a lot of the reflux has settled down - yesterday took no Gavison at all - first time for ages.
I am not feeling hungry and if I do I have even had a sneaky digestive! - with no problems.
Today we had to go to the garage and then did a bit of shopping so had a lunch out - we went for the menu of the day - fish terrine (came with a little salad and I had a small piece of bread) - then a thick slice of pork with Girolle mushrooms and salsify and duchess potatoes - then a cakes thing. We just drank water. The portions were sufficient but not huge at all.

Second week this week. Today for the first time, I've felt hungry but haven't given in (yet)...

J52 Fri 17-Nov-17 08:00:10

I’ve been doing this since 5th November and have just weighed myself for the first time in 10 days and have lost 1kilo. ?
This was despite eating out at a dinner on Wednesday. I haven’t felt hungry at all, keeping busy in the mornings makes me forget about food.
Hope everyone else is having success as well.

NfkDumpling Fri 17-Nov-17 08:08:56

Well done J52! That’s fantastic!

My weight fluctuates so it’s daily weigh ins and take a mean average for me. It’s been 2 weeks for me too but I’ve had a ‘big’ birthday in the middle and a couple of lapses when the timings haven’t worked out. I think I may have lost around 3 - 4 pounds. Definitely a downward trend so I’m keeping with it.

(And I have four boxes of special birthday chocolates to get through. DH being borderline diabetic now we’re rationing ourselves to one a night after dinner. And last night, a triumph, I said no when he offered me and extra one well after the deadline!)

I’ve been doing 16:8 for 12 days now and have been managing ok. I won’t say it’s easy as I miss my breakfast going out to work at 7.30 am but have a cup of tea before I leave and another when I get to work 5 mins away! I do approx 11.30-7.30. I really miss my evening snack with a cuppa before I go to bed but it was always a bad habit I’m pleased to break. (Doesn’t it take 21 days to break a habit?) Yesterday was the first evening I was really hungry as my dinner was just ......not filling enough! Should have eaten a bit more. Daily weigh ins and getting discouraged with no real change till today when scales suddenly showed about a 2.5 lb loss. Yippee, I’ll keep going <determined face>

Jane10 Fri 17-Nov-17 09:35:06

It's so strange the way that weight loss can seem to plateau then yikes a kilo has gone!
I was thinking that I hadn't lost much the past 2 weeks (not that I deserved to the way I was eating) then suddenly - my roll of midriff flab had just gone. Hips not where they were either. Onwards!

whitewave Fri 17-Nov-17 09:44:57

I’m a bit all over the place at the moment as been in bed for a couple of days with fever and chest infection, so reliant on DH for food? bit hit and miss to say the least. I believe we have bacon egg and chips at some time today?

J52 Fri 17-Nov-17 10:00:14

This seems to be going really well, for most of us. I’m beginning to get into the lifestyle mode of confining eating to 8 hours.
It’s great to be able to eat anything within that time. I think my stomach has shrunk, as I’m eating less anyway and still feeling full.
Yesterday I saw a friend who’d quietly been doing the 5:2 she was wearing tight fitting clothes and looked great! It’s spurred me on!

Lupin Fri 17-Nov-17 13:28:31

This thread inspires me onward.
I find that focusing on WHEN I CAN eat and not on WHAT I CAN'T eat is really positive.
Am beginning to find that I can't eat the bigger portions I was tucking into.
Have encountered a bit of a glitch in my schedule because I have an infection and am now on antibiotics for a few days, so must eat earlier in the day with the first pill. However - another positive - this diet is very flexible.

Menopaws Fri 17-Nov-17 14:20:02

I haven't lost any more but not put on and pleased to get into a routine so will crack on as really is easy

NfkDumpling Sat 18-Nov-17 08:50:59

I fear this morning is going to be hard. We were stuck in traffic and didn't get home until seven yesterday so I wasn't able to eat my last meal until after the eight hours which is bad enough but means I'll have to wait until after midday today! I'm hungry just thinking about it!

J52 Sat 18-Nov-17 09:45:06

I’m finding I can go longer in the morning. Sometimes I haven’t eaten till 7 pm, but have not found it too difficult to wait until after 12 to begin eating.
Keeping busy seems to be the key to making the time pass and not thinking about food.

midgey Sat 18-Nov-17 10:26:08

The important thing for me is to remember to drink enough, I’m really bad at drinking enough water. I do find not eating twelve fairly easy.....so long as I drink!

Luckylegs Sat 18-Nov-17 10:59:59

I'm on day 3 now. I haven't been too hungry up till today but I have kept busy instead of sitting after my breakfast on the iPad! What were the other benefits, can anyone remember, apart from hopefully weight loss? It's just my DD hasn't had breakfast for over 10 years and more or less (without knowing it) has kept to 16:8 but is overweight so she has been quite sceptical about this. She was thinking perhaps she should eat breakfast! Anyway, I'd better get out with the dog as it feels a long time until 1 pm today! The only other problem is I keep forgetting my tablets as I usually have them with my breakfast, anyone else?

Jane10 Sat 18-Nov-17 12:06:14

Google the 16:8 diet. It's maybe just as well that your DD has been having a long fast each day. If she's overweight she must just be eating too much (or more than she thinks). The long fast gives the body time to repair systems that otherwise would have to be busy digesting meal after meal. BP reduces and blood sugar levels improve.

Luckylegs Sat 18-Nov-17 13:27:32

I agree, Jane10 she possibly eats more than she should and she definitely doesn't get enough exercise, sitting in the car or at a desk for almost 12 hours a day!

I have googled it but I don't seem to find the right articles, I'll have another look. I'm so glad I've eaten now, I only had a mug of tea and half a glass of water before I took the dog a walk and I was hungry! It MUST be doing me good! As others have said, I'm not eating as much overall, it's impossible to eat three meals in 8 hours. I'm a bit concerned about tonight, we are going to a ball/dinner and I'm not certain that we will have eaten all three courses before 8 pm!

Jane10 Sat 18-Nov-17 14:39:50

I was thinking I was maybe a bit harsh re your DD. However, I know people who say that they don't have breakfast just grab a coffee at the bus stop - a full fat cappuccino with a muffin. Then because they 'didn't have breakfast' have a large lunch - maybe substantial filled roll, crisp and a chocolate biscuit etc- wonder why they aren't losing weight!
Been there, done that!!

NfkDumpling Sat 18-Nov-17 15:18:31

Kept busy and just lasted out until midday, but then ate rather more than I usually would. Cromer crab sarnies plus a couple of mince pies which needed trying out and a posh florentine from my birthday. (Mince pies are my downfall and need to be avoided so it's good that I got them out of the way) Curry for dinner tonight, plus fruit.

Madgran77 Sat 18-Nov-17 17:02:18

Other benefits that I have read include reducing chances of developing Type 2 diabetes and reducing cholestorol .

Caro1954 Sun 19-Nov-17 19:12:53

I was counting the hours (and minutes) till I could eat breakfast for the first few days but now I’m not really thinking about it and have gone over the time once or twice. I can’t eat such big portion anymore.

Lupin Mon 20-Nov-17 07:56:13

I love that the Gaviscon stays in the drawer. Haven't had to take any since I started. Will try and get back on the Walk at Home exercises now.
The only downside for me is that I'm sooo hungry at the end of the 16 hours that it's hard to restrain myself. Bring on the salad and foods that fill you up for longer. Apart from oats (neigh) does anyone know any?

Luckylegs Mon 20-Nov-17 11:58:38

That's the one I was hoping for! Reducing cholesterol. Mine is quite high and I don't want to take statins.
