I’m a pear !

I have returned to my own healthy eating plan as I need to lose a stone. I am pear shaped with a small bust, reasonable waist and overlarge hips.

On reading the ever sensible Dr Scurr in the DM this morning I discovered a healthy waist size is 31 ins for women and 37 ins for men. I rather smugly measured myself expecting a pat on the back only to find I am 5 ins over the recommended size ?

Onward and upward or preferably downward.

Interesting thread (wish I had looked at it earlier)

Going to try and muster up some willpower( think its in the second drawer down next to the biscuits) smile

I thought a good idea would be to take a photo of oneself maybe from sideview! (no need to show head or face etc)

Wear the same clothes. Then maybe few months or longer take same photo/same clothes in as same position as pos)

I may even put it on GN smile (or not if I fail)

Just healthy eating and more exercise, I don't feel motivated as Im typing this.........and just keep looking at the large unsliced loaf I got from as*da for 15p yesterday, and thinking how nice it would be toasted with jam on for supper ...hmm

But tomorrow is a new day... yes! tomorrow I shall start tomorrow.

Can anyone recomend a good set of scales not too expensive

bikergran Sun 29-Jul-18 20:14:03

to weigh oneself I mean (not food)

NanKate Sun 29-Jul-18 21:33:47

I got one from Lloyd’s Pharmacy a few years back.

If you follow my plan Biker whereby if you fancy something have it but a smaller portion that might help you. A nice round of toast with a scraping of butter and a teaspoon of jam would stop the craving but not put on pounds. If you like jam I would get a low sugar one from the supermarket. I am all for a little of what you fancy, little being the operative word. Welcome anyway to the Onward and Downward Club.

I bought a set of Andrew James scales from eBay, biker. An easy to read digital display and only £12.99

Welcome Badenkate. My DH has permanent AF too plus a leg ulcer so he gets very little exercise and I’m afraid I don’t do much either, keeping him company. I have changed my name folks, as I was too recognisable. I am the one with masses to lose who put on 9lbs last week! As expected it was mostly fluid and I have lost 7lbs but that still leaves me 2lbs up. I think I must have lost my whole body weight in the last two years! Two weeks and 6 days until DD’s wedding - I really want to lose another 8 lbs.

Nandalot Mon 30-Jul-18 10:21:35

May I join in a couple of weeks time after hols? I had lost 3 stone with slimming world. New jeans three sizes smaller but after Golden Wedding cruise in Jan couldn’t find willpower and have put back one stone. New jeans don’t fit anymore. sad Now I am in a vicious cycle of having just one last treat before I start again.... but I never do. So see you in two weeks for some motivation if I may.

Panache Mon 30-Jul-18 11:31:26

Actually Kate your theory or perhaps hope the warmer weather might give me something of an appetite has exactly the opposite effect!envy
I am merely "picking"......eating lots of fruit and drinking but no weight on my bod!
The only slightly upside is the fact I can wear very slim trousers and look good!!!

Keep up the good work and now you really have a merry band of slimmers ..........so every reason to be the leader!

fourormore Mon 30-Jul-18 12:08:51

Poor Panache - life's not fair is it! Like you I am finding the hot weather causes more 'picking' than proper meals.
I weighed and reported in yesterday so I won't go there again sad but what I failed to mention was that we had a staff farewell afternoon tea yesterday afternoon where I was 'forced' hmm to eat a delicious cream tea!
Fortunately having weighed in the morning I have a full week to get rid of yesterday afternoon's damage!
Welcome to Nandalot - I intend to rejoin my gym/swim sessions in Sept as they are held in a hotel leisure suite and it is currently full of holidaymakers! Come September you and I will both be really getting stuck in, but in the meantime we just need to focus a bit!

Shirleyw Tue 31-Jul-18 03:48:30

Hi, is it ok if I join in please? This week I lost 3 lbs so that's a start.... I also took up on a six week summer offer at the gym so I hope that becomes a habit. afternoons I find the worse time for wanting to pick, the fruit bowl needs forever refilling now lol.....

NanKate Tue 31-Jul-18 07:22:58

Morning Shirley and Nanda a very warm welcome to Onward and Downward. You have come to the right place for encouragement and ideas to help you on the downward path.

I don’t set myself up as an expert in anyway, but I have experienced my weight going up and down through the years so I feel I have some knowledge of how hard it can be and also like our supporter Panache who struggles to gain weight.

I have come to the conclusion it has little to do with hunger and a lot to do with our mental state. Having said that health issues too play a part in either gaining or losing weight.

My advice to you both is not to think that you are going on a diet until you lose a certain amount, but to decide on a healthier eating plan FOR LIFE. That doesn’t mean that you can’t have an occasional splurge at a party or a meal out, what it does mean is that you get back on track the next day.

I used to think of holidays as an excuse to eat what I wanted every day and I would come back even more depressed about my weight at the end of the hols, was it worth it, not in my book.

So what I am saying is find an eating plan that suits you and go for it. The first week or two are the hardest but then you slip into a way of eating differently. If you scroll through I gave ideas recently on the things I do when I feel I want something to eat that don’t put on a lot of weight.

I do hope that helps. Finally for most of us losing weight has a beneficial affect on our health, so it’s a no brainer really.

Onward and Downward.

Huge amazement and delight chez Merlot this morning. Weigh in day showed I've lost 2lbs since doing 'Walk at Home' and I've only done it twice!! I managed the full mile yesterday but my fitbit showed I'd only done 3/4 of the steps. That would be because when the pace quickens I struggle to keep up so am obviously missing a few.

Never mind! Nobody's watching. grin

Keep moving everyone. It pays off.

Onwards and downwards.

fourormore Tue 31-Jul-18 12:22:36

This is amazing!!!
Welcome to our newbies, isn't it great to have a goodly number of us to encourage each other!
Merlot Well done! I am soooooo jealous but I am back in control now after a dodgy week last week so fingers crossed! I will look up the 'Walk at Home' !

merlotgran Tue 31-Jul-18 13:48:39

The woman who does it is bonkers, fourormore.grin It's very American with lots of whooping encouragement but I love it. It's great fun, even when I'm looking at the time clock and longing for the last four minutes to be over. grin

It's all in bite size pieces so if you need a breather you can easily get back in.

Shirleyw Tue 31-Jul-18 16:12:28

Thankyou, nankate, and shall take onboard your tips.
well done merlotgran losing a couple pounds.
how often do you guys weigh yourselves?

NanKate Tue 31-Jul-18 16:26:27

Once a week for me.

fourormore Wed 01-Aug-18 08:50:58

Once a week for me too hmm!!!

NanKate Sat 04-Aug-18 11:28:09

Just weighed myself and I am slightly up on last week. My 2 DGSs come to stay this coming week so it will be a bit chaotic food wise, but I will get back on track immediately afterwards.

How are all you folks doing ?

merlotgran Sat 04-Aug-18 12:40:44

I haven't lost any more, NanKate but I haven't gained any either so I'm not worried. I think I'll lose some more when I can do more outside but it's been so hot and by the time the cooler evening arrives I can't be bothered. grin

NanKate Sat 04-Aug-18 20:37:52

Yes Merlot I am sure we will both be back on track soon.

fourormore Sun 05-Aug-18 10:44:55

The hot weather is affecting the pace we can move about and I am sure we will all pick up when we can make more effort!
Weigh in this morning - I have lost 1.2lbs which is disappointing when I have been so good all week but I am happy! hmm
The big boost was that I have at last dropped below the 180lbs mark! My scales register pounds or kilos and as kilos mean nothing to me pounds it is! grin
I now have the magic 17 start being 179.4 grin
As long as that horrible 18 start has gone I am happy!
Onward and downward everyone - we will all have our little slips and disappointments but together we WILL succeed whichever way we need to go!
By the way - none of us are OVERweight - we are all UNDERtall gringringrin

merlotgran Sun 05-Aug-18 11:02:47

We're off out for lunch today. DD will be driving which will be a lovely change for me not to have to drive. I've saved all my weekend 'smart' points so I can have a couple of glasses of wine and not feel guilty. blush

NanKate Sun 05-Aug-18 11:09:33

Cheers Merlot, well done Four

It has really been great having support from you all. I am sure I would have given up by now on my own. My DH noticed today I have a waist Eureka, I knew I had one somewhere :-)

Shirleyw Tue 07-Aug-18 18:11:31

Remained the same this last seven days ....
