I’m a pear !

I have returned to my own healthy eating plan as I need to lose a stone. I am pear shaped with a small bust, reasonable waist and overlarge hips.

On reading the ever sensible Dr Scurr in the DM this morning I discovered a healthy waist size is 31 ins for women and 37 ins for men. I rather smugly measured myself expecting a pat on the back only to find I am 5 ins over the recommended size ?

Onward and upward or preferably downward.

Well done Merlot, that was a nice surprise.

NanKate Mon 17-Sept-18 17:31:39

Great news Merlot. I have recently returned from hols but didn’t over indulge too much, I will weigh myself on Friday and see how things are going. I’ve recently worn two pairs of trousers that were destined for the charity shop, but now I can wear them, yippee.

How are things going for you Billy? I am not sure if I am talking to a male or female, but it makes no difference.

One and a half stones in five months is brilliant Merlot. Well done!

Am female Nankate, week 6 last week lost another one and a half pounds, 11 pounds in total. Can now see my waistline. Long way to go yet, but pressing on, also my bottom does not cover ALL the chair when I sit down! (hope that wasn't too graphic)

NanKate Tue 18-Sept-18 07:26:16

You made me laugh Billy.

It’s so good that a few of us have stayed the course and are going downwards, mostly. I wouldn’t have lost a stone if it wasn’t for checking in here regularly.

My DH said recently I now look quite shapely since my waist has reappeared. I told him I now weighed the same as when we married almost 47 years ago. He told me he was past carrying me over the threshold ?

Lol nankate.
That's good loss BillyBob.
I lost 3 and a half pounds this week after staying the same last week....9 lbs in total, ...

NanKate Thu 20-Sept-18 08:25:18

Keep going Shirley and well done.

Billybob4491 Thu 20-Sept-18 12:58:41

That's good Shirley, week 7 tomorrow, whenever I go to be weighed I feel as if I am going along to sit an exam, the nerves you wouldn't believe! Wasn't bothering me when the weight was going on.

NfkDumpling Thu 20-Sept-18 19:13:09

Well, I’ve had a bit of a ‘Whoosh”! I seem to have lost nearly three pounds overnight - mind you it took an endoscopy! I suspect most of it is dehydration as I was told not to drink after 8.30am as my appointment was 9,30. I got in to see the consultant at 11.15 and was then unable to drink until 1.15! I’ve eaten very carefully today so wonder what tomorrow will bring.

merlotgran Thu 20-Sept-18 19:16:46

Well done, Nfk. A nice bonus for all the discomfort.

Shirleyw Fri 21-Sept-18 05:17:21

Lol so true BillyBob....

a positive has come out of that then nfk....hope results are ok.....

NanKate Fri 21-Sept-18 08:02:22

Under half a pound up after hols, not too bad.

fourormore Sun 23-Sept-18 10:30:49

Sunday morning weigh-in and I have lost a pound. Am a bit disappointed but having 'plateaued' for so long it is better than nothing.
Good luck fellow strugglers!

oldbatty Sun 23-Sept-18 10:36:04

Oh blimey....its just not happening at all for me. I am wrestling with depression so I might have to settle for healthyish eating and cut down the wine.

Maybe that will have to do for now!

merlotgran Sun 23-Sept-18 11:00:42

Have you tried introducing something a little bit different, oldbatty? Researching some recipes you haven't tried before and adapting them to your weight loss plan?

I have found that having something to really focus on lifts my mood, especially in the winter. I don't know about your physical fitness but there are some excellent exercises on YouTube for all abilities. Sometimes a bit of a wake up call to your system works wonders.

Definitely cut down on wine. I drink gin and slimline tonic instead (plenty of tonic, ice and lemon) I do enjoy a few glasses of dry white at weekends though but never with a meal that might be higher in calories than normal. If I do drink wine with meals I make sure I have a glass of water on the table as well.

Don't give up. Just keep telling yourself you're doing it for YOU.

oldbatty Sun 23-Sept-18 11:08:14

Great advice, thanks. The alternative is when the winter sets in, the pounds pile on.

merlotgran Sun 23-Sept-18 13:01:37

That's what concerns me as well. I rely on the garden for keeping me fit and lifting my mood. I enjoy the beginning of winter - lighting the woodburner and piling on jumpers but the novelty soon wears off.

It's going to have to be Walk At Home and relying on my FitPro, the cheaper version of Fitbit, to remind me to get up and Move!!

I can't say I'm looking forward to it.

NfkDumpling Sun 23-Sept-18 19:53:10

Me too Merlot. I quite look forward to a good tidy up in the garden and spreading the compost. Then the winter blues set in. We’ve taken to having a week in the sun somewhere in February. Just looking forward to heading south to somewhere with longer, drier, sunnier days shortens the winter and gives us something to look forward to. We’re blessed that we can afford to do this.

NfkDumpling Sun 23-Sept-18 19:57:09

Not looking forward to weighing in tomorrow morning. I’ve more or less maintained my loss but today was DGD’s family birthday tea. A buffet. I’m doomed with a buffet. The cake was - a brain! She’s a weird child. Made from chocolate cake covered in melted marshmallow thickened with icing sugar and shaped. It was surprisingly good. And then there was the Proseco.........

merlotgran Sun 23-Sept-18 20:19:13

I'm dreading tomorrow's weigh in as well. DD and DGS came for lunch today. Roast beef etc., etc., and tarte tatin shock not to mention the wine.

Just seen the weather forecast on Countryfile and it looks like we're set for five good days so apart from Friday when DH has to go to the dentist, I've told everyone I'm unavailable!

Some hopes. hmm

The cake sounds fab.

Billybob4491 Mon 24-Sept-18 06:40:37

NFK and Merlot, hope you both do well re weigh in.

merlotgran Mon 24-Sept-18 10:22:44

Phew! Is all I can say. Haven't gained any weight despite eating (and drinking) far more than I would in a normal weekend and doing hardly any exercise.

I would love to lose another half a stone by Christmas so it's no good just sitting here thinking about it. Come on, willpower. Don't desert me now.

NfkDumpling Mon 24-Sept-18 17:18:49

This popped up on Facebook today from DD1. (Incredibly I’ve stayed the same after my pigging out on cake yesterday!)

NanKate Mon 24-Sept-18 19:46:41

What’s important IMO is to keep posting on this thread, because I think if any of us go to ground that is when the eating and drinking increases.

I am on a plateau at present but at least I’m not increasing.

It’s my birthday on Thursday so will take the day off, in days gone by I would have taken weeks off ??

merlotgran Mon 24-Sept-18 20:03:08

I think if any of us go to ground that is when the eating and drinking increases.

Is this what you mean, NanKate?
