I’m a pear !

I have returned to my own healthy eating plan as I need to lose a stone. I am pear shaped with a small bust, reasonable waist and overlarge hips.

On reading the ever sensible Dr Scurr in the DM this morning I discovered a healthy waist size is 31 ins for women and 37 ins for men. I rather smugly measured myself expecting a pat on the back only to find I am 5 ins over the recommended size ?

Onward and upward or preferably downward.

PS: 7.35pm and I'm fighting my craving for choccy biccies, not helped by an advert for Leibnitz biscuits, there are some in the pantry and I can eat a whole box at at time. A large factor in my undoing.

Nobody said it was easy, good luck

fourormore Fri 01-Feb-19 20:14:39

DON'T DO IT GRANDMAMA gringringrin
I am also sitting here craving twiglets of all things!
My weigh-in is first thing on Sunday morning and I have been really good this week, so if I haven't lost weight this weekend I will be furious! I can't blow it now can I hmm
Have you tried a drink of hot Bovril? A teaspoon of Bovril (dissolved in boiling water) is not too calorific but seems to take away urges to sin!
The ads are a pain aren't they!!!
Good luck - you can do it!!! flowers

Did my home weigh in this morning and have lost half a pound, I know it’s not much but I will accept anything that is downwards.

GrannyIris5 Sat 02-Feb-19 10:38:56

Weigh a pack of butter, there’s that much less of you ?

NanKate Sat 02-Feb-19 12:47:02

Absolutely GrannyI

I am GUTTED!!! All my efforts this week have resulted in staying exactly the same sad I have been really good with food but I know I am not exercising as much as I have done in the past because of my wretched knee.
The physio is still working on it without much improvement but I have to be patient! (Not my best virtue grin)
I will carry on regardless though and I will get there!

GrannyIris5 Sun 03-Feb-19 10:29:55

I hate that, it is so demoralising, sometimes I think you are better judging by your clothes and not the scales. Is it water, have you had a no 2, anything like bread that retains water? Perhaps it’s muscle - weighs heavy ?

fourormore Sun 03-Feb-19 12:41:58

Bless you GrannyIris for your encouragement.
I have a real problem with bread so steer clear from it, opting for crispbread etc. so I can't blame that sadly!
To be honest I think it could be a case of not eating enough which I know can prevent weight loss as the body stores everything possible if it feels it may be a long time before it gets fed again.
While I am less mobile with my knee I have tended to skip food - I know that's not good but still did it! hmm
I have now sorted out a sensible eating plan for this coming week and am also going to gradually increase my mobility so, fingers crossed, something will happen.
Hopefully the weather will improve and make walking more pleasant and therefore more beneficial. I feel low mood is also a factor but I'm not making excuses.
I hope all my fellow struggling friends have better luck this week! flowers

Incidentally, I used to use My Fitness Pal and got on well with that. However, a while ago I had notification that MFP was going 'american' or words to that effect, with the warning that their privacy rules would not be as strict as ours, so I closed my account.
Does anyone currently use MFP and if so, have you had any problems? I am tempted to rejoin as it does keep you focused and ensures you avoid bad things but eat enough of the correct stuff!

GrannyIris5 Sun 03-Feb-19 13:26:49

Hi fourormore I used to use MFP but it just makes me think of food all day. Whatever you use it has to be sustainable, I don’t believe in restricting any particular food. My problem is eating because it’s lunchtime/dinner/bored/stressed etc whether I’m hungry or not. If I could listen to my body I’d be half way there

NanKate Tue 05-Feb-19 08:21:56

Having a Chinese meal tonight (New Year) I bet that will be high in calories, so will have to go really carefully for the rest of the week.

GrannyIris5 Thu 07-Feb-19 08:12:24

I’m trying EF (extended fasting) the theory is that every time you eat your body releases insulin (the fat hormone). If you don’t eat after your evening meal and can delay breakfast you have done 15 hours or more with no effort. Don’t overdo the milk in your morning coffee/tea and no juice. One of the other things is LowCarbHighFat, can do the fat bit (lol) but not a big meat/fish/egg eater. Good luck today with your hopefully healthier choices.

It’s interesting the different approaches to weight loss we all have Mine has been portion control with initially calorie counting. My weight loss is slow, steady, plateaus. I think my stomach has shrunk as I am not as hungry as I was. I think slimming is psychological where how we are feeling affects how we are eating.

Onward and downward. ?

GrannyIris5 Thu 07-Feb-19 09:01:20

Can’t cope with calorie counting if I go over I end up think sod it and eat anything

NanKate Thu 07-Feb-19 14:49:39

I think calorie counting worked for me as I always factored in some choc or wine so I never felt I was going without. The first couple of weeks were hard but then I sort of got into the swing of things.

Shirleyw Thu 07-Feb-19 19:59:02

I gained two pounds this week,....and would you believe, my daughter and I went to , champneys , henlow grange for the weekend lol...

GrannyIris5 Thu 07-Feb-19 20:12:24

I had a piece of licorice and lost a filling lol. It’s only be done 2 weeks, that’ll teach me

fourormore Sun 10-Feb-19 11:36:26

Ouch GrannyIris I feel for you flowers having to go through the filling for a second time!
Well folks, at last a SUCCESS - on the scales today I have lost 2lbs so I am delighted with that.
I am able to use the knee a bit more now so I plan to increase the movement gradually as if I 'go for it' too fast I could end up in reverse!
Last week I was so disappointed but thought perhaps I wasn't eating enough?
This week I made myself sort of calorie count!
I made a list each morning of what food etc was planned for the day - then using MFP (or similar online calorie counter or book!) wrote a 'ballpark' area number of calories for each.
I kept myself in the 1000 - 1100 area as I know my figures were not accurate. I make my own meusli without sugar for example so have to guess that, working on the theory that should be less that a commercial sugar-filled one!
As I said only guestimate counting but it seems to have worked so press on into this week now haha!
18 weeks to booked holiday so that's another incentive!
Good luck everyone - don't get stressed or obsessed as we will all get there with the support of dear NanKate and all our fellow strugglers flowers

GrannyIris5 Sun 10-Feb-19 11:58:50

Well done fourormore a brilliant result from your hard work.
Found out it was a different tooth, £100 a filling - I need to find a NHS dentist before I go broke.
Have a good week with hopefully healthy choices.

NanKate Sun 10-Feb-19 11:59:47

?????? Fourormore. What a cracker you will look on your hols. ?

Dontaskme Mon 11-Feb-19 17:12:33

Hello to you all,
I've been trying really hard and have completely cut out sweets, crisps, cakes, biscuits, potatoes, bread - loads of stuff - and I feel hungry all the time! I am determined to carry on though.
I said in a previous post that I don't have scales in the house but I gave in and got some the other day. I have discovered that if I put them just inside the door of the sitting room I weigh about 3lbs less than if I put them by the window, so guess where I've weighed myself smile.
I've taken this seriously since mid Jan and (depending on where I put the scales) have lost either 7lbs or 10lbs. Either of those will do for me smile
I've taken a leaf from your book NanKate and started walking every day. Well, when its not raining or blowing me over that is. I do about half an hour at the moment but I plan to increase up to an hour as the weather improves. Must admit that arthritis makes me a bit hobbly and even more stiff trying to get out of bed in the mornings, but I'm not going to sit around getting fatter and fatter any more.
Tried my special occasion trousers on - they don't fit any better yet, but they will, in time. I have 3 months before I want to wear them and I'm carrying on smile
All the best to everyone.

fourormore Mon 11-Feb-19 17:43:10

Hello Dontaskme - welcome to our little band!
Loved your story about your scales - perhaps they are on carpet? They need to be on a hard floor, but I do like your idea of going for the lighter place grin
Well done on cutting our all the crisps etc. but please don't go hungry though!
If you look back about a week on this thread you will see where I had been really 'good' and basically lived on salad and didn't lose an ounce. Having been more sensible last week and ate more I lost 2lbs!
It is possible you aren't eating enough! Sounds crazy but apparently if the body feels hungry it frantically stores everything next time you eat, as it doesn't know when it will be fed again.
Good luck - we will all get there!!!

GrannyIris5 Mon 11-Feb-19 18:37:34

My scales are upstairs in the bathroom I wonder if gravity affects them, perhaps I’ll try them downstairs like Dontaskme

NfkDumpling Mon 11-Feb-19 20:18:13

Hi All

I've been engrossed in Ancestry and our family tree for a week and not looked at GN. Completely hooked! It does wonders for staying out of the kitchen!

I'm still on my healthy eating, low cholesterol, new way of eating. I can't say its a diet as I had an avocado for lunch today and am nibbling on lots of nuts (mostly walnuts) and eating loads. Foods which I love but seem to be forbidden by Weighwatchers. It's all wrong! But my cholesterol is now at an acceptable level - and I've lost just over half a stone without really trying! Ok, so, because I'm cutting down on bad fats I'm avoiding biscuits and cake and crisps and savoury nibbles, but I'm eating potatoes and seedy wholemeal bread and loads of nuts so how am I a loosing weight?
