Should the NHS charge for such things?
On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.
However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits. Plus a few others who make an occasional entrance and departure and that is fine too - All Welcome.
Do join us the rules are simple.
Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.
So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra. I am sure both Four and Shirley will tell you their strategies.
You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.
So Onward and Downward ? in 2020 and beyond folks. Come and join us.

Weigh-in day, and I have lost the 2 lbs that I gained (for no good reason that I can make out), and so over all I have lost half a pound. Not great, but not to be sniffed at.
Bon chance everyone.
Lindadoughty650 a loss is a loss. I'm happy if I've only lost quarter of a pound. You have done well to lose what you put on. Do you measure yourself? My children tell me that is as important as weight. I've lost 8" from bust, 12" waist and 15" hips. Didn't measure myself when I started this journey so really lost more inches than that. Hope you have a good week.
So I made it through January and did quite well. I have lost about 6 lb; my goal is just 2 more lbs. I know I can do it if I keep up, but the challenge will be to keep it off!
My goal for February is to keep on for a few more weeks with restricting calories, but to amp up my fitness.
I just checked my fitbit, and my first week of January I averaged 8700 steps/day but it has decreased a little bit every week. Last week averaged 6800 steps/day. Bad girl!
So for Feb: ramp up the exercise and add some weights, and keep on with the (mostly) healthy eating. Walking outside has been a bit difficult with the weather, especially since I work full time and there isn't much daylight after work since we live quite far north. Sunset is at 5:20 pm, so I have to walk during my lunch break and right after work. I have been trying to get on the elliptical machine if I missed my after work walk, but I don't enjoy it as much.
Carry on everyone - good to share our highs and lows.
Canadiangran well done. My weight is the same. Need to get it moving again. So set myself a goal to do my exercises every day. Always used to do them but nothing since October when my seizures went out of control. I will do a combination of my old ones and ones I do at sit fit. Start out at 10 mins a day and work up.
Having a echocardiogram on Wednesday haven't had one before should be interesting.
Have a good week everyone.
Here we go again - down, up, down, up and so the story continues
Up 1.2lb this week but, like so many of us, the weather has prevented outdoor pursuits and the dull, drab light makes us all feel down and then the comfort eating sets in
Onwards and downwards we go - well done everyone on this week's efforts!!!
Very frustrating, I'm up a bit too at the mo, hoping by Wednesday weigh in I'll be down again, or at least the same as last weigh in. Bodies are weird with how much water or waste they are storing at any given point in the day x
Hi everyone, I'm back after two weeks away from scales or weigh ins - and internet. I've been on holiday in Uganda (I don't say when I'm going away as I know I've been "outed".) It was quite an energetic holiday touring around in the back of a Land cruiser on dirt tracks.
I hoped all the jolting would have kept the weight off and I was careful. Honestly. But, I've put on half a stone!!!!!!
And I was really careful. Hopefully it'll come off over the next few days and it's just me swelling up due to flying and the heat.
Help! Please help! I'll need your nagging over the next week - at least!!
I am willing to bet that is mostly water Nfk x
Oooh, I do hope so Yennifer! The food was wonderful but I stuck to tiny portions and really did try!
Wow Uganda NfkDumping. Lucky you. What did you like the most? The animals? The scenery?
Weighed in at 141 lbs today, a loss of just 1/2 lb this week.
I am still struggling to break the habit of occasional evening munchies. Must try harder! Happy February everyone
.
Sounds like you enjoyed yourself NfkDumpling ??
I am pleased to say I have a weight loss of 1 3/4lbs this week. I have been good in the evenings. On we go......
It’s good to hear about the ups and downs of our small community, because it proves we haven’t given up. I will weigh in on Thursday and report back.
Onwards and downwards ? girls.
Oh, really! I am annoyed with myself.
Monday morning weigh in, and I've gained half a pound! 16:8 does not appear to be working for me, unless I've been eating the wrong things within my eight hours.
DH and I did finish off the Christmas goodies during the week and on Saturday night we ate a large bag of sweet popcorn and I probably had more than him.
Right! I must be more strict with myself as I'm determined that by 1st December I shall be slim and gorgeous.
The thing with 16:8 is you can still overeat, I do often or I wouldn't be up again. I'm concentrating on smaller portions right now and planning my days food in advance x
Doesn't help when my husband cooks all weekend as he does massive portions and he is such a good cook I clear my plate every time x
Don't think I dare get on the scales, daughters birthday cake was lush! ??.
New day and lovely sunshine so I'm off out into the garden, it'll keep me occupied.
Stay focussed GNetters ???
Just had a great incentive to get my weight moving again . My cardiologist appointment for April has been brought forward to next week. I have had some tests done already and with this week's at least they will have all the information at hand. I not going to worry about it no point.
Good luck with Cardiologist visit Whiff.
My weigh in day today and I have gained 1lb. Will make sure I'm only eating if I'm feeling hungry and not for any other reason.
You were right Yennifer, I’ve deflated by 2lbs over two days. Hopefully it’s going to continue although we went to lunch at a friends house today. Yummy turkey and leek pie followed by a raspberry pavlova which it would have been churlish to have refused! Vegetable soup for supper!
Uganda was great Coco. Animals and birds and fantastic scenery. Terrible roads though - I’d hoped all the bouncing around and bracing over the bumps would have kept the weight down!
Two fabulous days in the garden! Burned off some calories but worked up an appetite ??. Have to admit, despite aches and pains and a few extra pounds, I feel so much better for being out in the fresh air. Think I may have shed about one pound though.
Morning! Happy to report no change
Starting weight 10.8
Current weight 10.2
Goal weight 9.7
I was up 2 pounds on Saturday so shows how much it can fluctuate. My aim was a pound a week and I've done 6 in 5 weeks so still ahead. Keep up the good work x x
Yennifer you are doing brilliant. Slow but sure is the best way. That way your body gets used to smaller amounts of food.
Well done Yennifer, thats a nice steady loss too. You’ll be bikini fit by spring!
Morning all. No change for me this week. It's funny how the body seems to have a set point that it likes to return to no matter what you do. Losing weight (or gaining if that is what you need) appears to be about changing that set point.
Oh well. My sister is like a stick and really needs all the poundage that I would generously give her. We both struggle.
Good luck and happy eating.
