On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course from the beginning are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits.

We now have some other excellent new regulars who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Please join us at this difficult time in all our lives with the Pandemic.

So Onward and Downward girls ??

Sarahmob well done at the brilliant weight loss.

Dorset same as you my weight has stayed the same. Would have liked a loss but staying the same is better than a gain. Hope the antibiotics do the trick. Glad to say they got rid of my latest UTI. But always make me feel a bit low. But as long as they work that's the main thing.

Looked after my grandson for a while on Thursday while my daughter had an appointment. We made biscuits. I have 10 Christmas cutters he cut them all out himself. I had to roll as he was a bit heavy handed but he's not 3 for another couple of months. Made lots. Once cold we decorated them with piped melted chocolate. Whilst making them we managed to get flour everywhere even on our backs. Brought back happy memories of cooking we my 2 when they were young. We got chocolatey hands but soon licked clean. Gave my daughter the bowl to lick out with a small spoon she pointed out she was an adult. So gave her a bigger one. She laughed said if it had been her dad he would have given her a ladle. And he would have. He was a joker.

Looked after him on Friday for nearly 5 hours at theirs and did his zoom toddler class with him. It was firefighters. Very tiring but fun. Next week it's sports day glad I won't be doing that.

Been mainly cross stitching Christmas decorations this week. All my Christmas presents are here or ordered. Might start wrapping this week as due to Covid won't be having visitors . So parcels will have to be sent. Going to use royal mail collect service. My daughter has a printer so can do the pre paid labels for me.

Have a great week everyone.

I have really enjoyed reading and catching up. A big hello and best wishes to all. I used to think it was just my family who had falling outs and not speaking, most of which is fine by me. It's good to realise that it's just part of life. I rarely post as I feel I have little to say but still feel part of this group. You all seem to live such busy and interesting lives!
Being on keto means no fruit or bread, which is much harder than no cakes or biscuits. Never thought I would feel that way! Only 1 lb this week, so 11 lbs in 6 weeks.

fourormore Sun 22-Nov-20 10:51:29

What a wonderful picture you painted Whiff I can imagine what a mess - but what fun and memories you are creating. grin
Another very anxious week with sick relation but we are resigned now that this is how it is going to be for the foreseeable future.
Like everyone else it seems, I have stayed the same but, as long as I don't put on I am ok with that.
Good luck to everyone else and well done Sarahmob and Shirley - I'm not jealous (MUCH!) envyenvyenvy

Whiff Sun 22-Nov-20 11:34:24

Readsalot don't say only pound . It's hard to lose that. 11lb in 6 weeks that's brilliant. I was always happy with a quarter of pound loss. It doesn't matter if you think you haven't much to say. If you have read some of my posts I talk about the most mundane things. I love reading about other people's lives . I know I am nosey. Write what you like I look forward reading it.

Fourormore staying the same is a great achievement with all your worry at the moment. I will email you tomorrow .

Dorsetcupcake61 Sun 22-Nov-20 11:49:58

That was a lovely description Whiff, bought back happy memories and I'm sure your grandson will always treasure them. Almost weekly my daughters seem to remember something food related about my parents whether it was waking up to the smell of dads home made bread or mums picnics. Mums picnics were always great fun, mainly due to her habit of leaving things to the last minute. The intention was chicken sandwiches the reality was mum sitting in the car carving a still hot whole chicken?. Also one year she couldnt find all of her decorations for the xmas cake so alongside a Robin was a couple of easter chicks, something of a tradition now to the amusement of new family members!
I'm half way through the antibiotics now Whiff and they seem to be working well. Hopefully they do the trick. I must admit I'm starting to feel the downside, not the very unpleasant side affects just a feeling of being slightly off colour and something that's not quite nausea but I cant think of anything I would really enjoy eating!
The toddler zoom class sounds fun. Was it a firefighter theme or run by firefighters? If the latter I wonder if I can sign up with a cat? ?.
I too am cracking on with craft gifts. Once again times seems to speed by despite starting earlier than usual. I did feel better when realized I have done more than I thought,a cable pattern ipad case,a santa hat,an elf hat, plus Halloween and birthday gifts in September/October. I'm currently working on a scarf for eldest grandson which does seem to be taking forever!
Readsalot yes,I remember being on very low carb and it's amazing how bread and fruit, especially fruit are a mainstay of everyday life and leave quite a gap. Bread is not so bad to cut out but even though I'm not the worlds biggest fruit eater I did miss it!
Big hugs Fourormore ?.
Keep on Keeping on everyone!

Whiff Sun 22-Nov-20 12:33:30

Dorset wish it had been hunky firefighters but no it was run a a lovely woman who is 34 weeks pregnant. She was lovely. It was nice because at times got to see the children and grow ups that my grandson is usually with.

Thinking about don't think my 62 year old heart could have coped with a room full of hunky firefighters. ???.

You have been busy with your crafting.

Sarahmob Sun 22-Nov-20 18:57:46

Readsalot 11lb in six weeks is fantastic, and remember what seems to be the ‘mantra’ of this group, it’s a marathon not a sprint. ?

Shirleyw Mon 23-Nov-20 12:37:30

3lb sarah, that's great, well done...

Well I put on 2lb as it was my birthday over the weekend, back on track now though,... it was expected...could of been worse lol....

Hope your all keeping well.....

CocoPops Tue 24-Nov-20 02:39:30

Brilliant loss Sarahmob and Whiff I loved your joke about the spoon smile. My weight fluctuates between 130 and 132 lbs which is OK but my initial target was 130lbs so I need to be more careful. It was my birthday yesterday and I ate Too Much! Getting down to 129lbs woud make me smile smile.
My son in UK is undergoing the lengthly process of buying a house. If ? If ? If all goes according to plan it's possible that he could move in before Christmas and if that happens I will definitely celebrate with more than one glass of plonk and to hell with the consequences to the waistline!

Whiff Tue 24-Nov-20 10:34:13

Cocopops happy birthday for yesterday. Buying houses in this country is a unnecessary long process. I moved to my bungalow last year. Twice my buyers pulled out just before exchanging contracts. Put my house on the market March 2018 and finally moved August 2019. Hope your son's move goes smoothly. And he is in his new home in time for Christmas.

CocoPops Wed 25-Nov-20 04:14:33

Yes, I agree that buying property in England is unnecessarily long Whiff. My late husband and I bought and sold 5 times when in the UK. Stressful times!! You were really unlucky with people pulling out. It's an easier process here. Properties sell quickly. Prospective buyers view a property on the same afternoon, make their offer a few days later and if the owner accepts your offer contracts are immediately exchanged, a move in date arranged and you are legally bound so neither party can back out. I viewed my apartment on a Saturday, had a survey done on Sunday, offer accepted on the Monday and I moved in 3 weeks later.

Whiff Wed 25-Nov-20 06:49:50

Cocopops wish buying a house was that easy here. Our system is out dated and grossly unfair. Because it takes so long it costs such a lot. Think some solicitor's stretch it out to put extra charges on. Luckily my solicitor was very up front and only paid what was agreed from the start. Also if it wasn't for her and her PA don't think I could have got through it. Lost track of the times I was in tears in their offices. Anyway hopefully your son will be in his new home very soon.

Sarahmob Sun 29-Nov-20 07:56:00

Nothing lost, nothing gained this week but after last weeks ‘big’ loss maybe I shouldn’t be surprised. This week I find myself in isolation as a child in my school bubble has been confirmed as having the virus. It’s a waiting game - I’m planning to use the time wisely and have begun on a cleaning for Christmas programme. The house will be sparkling like a new pin in time for the big day, I’m going to get some knitting done too as we’ve had the lovely news that our daughter is expecting her second child. Sending you all good wishes for the best of weeks ahead.

Dorsetcupcake61 Sun 29-Nov-20 08:45:08

Good morning all?. Yes Whiff the thought of firefighters would certainly get me jumping up and down?.
A belated happy birthday ShirleyW and I hope all is going ahead with the house buying CocoPops ?.
Sarahmob that's good that stayed same and I do hope that isolating ends up just a precaution. Lovely news about your daughter though?.
The weeks seem to be going so quickly and for me in a flurry of knitting. When I look back I have done a lot. I also have other things I want to do and it's nearly December?. Today I intend to put my tree up. It will be interesting as first I have to negotiate my daughters belongings!
I did get an unexpected surprise this week though. At the beginning of November my daughter posted me a box of birthday treats that never arrived. It wasnt signed for as not expensive and she thought be fine. Last week after contacting post office she told me what was in it,italian goodies,a handmade bookmark by grandsons and some pamper treats.
On Thursday the postman rang the doorbell with a box. Initially I was confused as it was the box I had sent my grandsons Halloween treats in which I knew they had received. Then the penny dropped that my daughter had reused the box, very environmentally friendly. To be fair to her they are excellent boxes from poundland but on either side they have a To and a From on. The first time I used them it seemed like a good idea until it was delivered back to me! Apparently this parcel has been ping ponging between here and Surrey for 3 weeks! Still got it in the end?.
As for weight I have stayed the same which I feel quite glum about because I need to lose it but not in the least surprised about as havent been really trying! You are certainly right about antibiotics making you feel blah Whiff,I felt so much better when finished them.
I'm also completely bored with food. I find it quite hard to think of anything I really fancy eating. I've tended to go for quick things from the freezer I have pre cooked. The majority of them are healthy. Probably why I have stayed the same!
Hope you all have a lovely week?

NanKate Sun 29-Nov-20 09:01:32

Hi girls,

Staying steady with a weight plan is good in my books, losing is a bonus.

Losing weight is a psychological battle as well as a physical one IMO.

fourormore Sun 29-Nov-20 09:28:29

Morning everyone! Well having stayed the same for the last couple of weeks (against all the odds) the inevitable has happened and I have put on 0.8lb.
However, I cannot be bothered to worry about it as I have more pressing things to worry about and I know why - I have hit the chocolate and biscuits (a little!) over the last few weeks so what can I expect hmm
I have resolved since lock-down that as long as I stay in the same 188-189lb area I will not fret and then, when things do get back to the new normal (Easter now?) get stuck in with swimming again and proper exercise!
Keep on track ladies and don't fret if things don't happen - the virus has side effects and this is one! flowersflowersflowers

Whiff Sun 29-Nov-20 09:45:08

Dorset glad you got the box in the end. Glad the antibiotics worked.
You say you are bored with food. Why don't you make a big batch of stew of some kind. I do that and lasts me 6 dinners same with lasagne. That way you getting all the main cooking done in one go. I portion mine up and keep in the fridge that they I only have to pop it into the oven to heat through. Always add extra bit of water as it seems to thicken up in the fridge. Also it's easier to count the calories for the whole meal and divide by 6.

My weight has stayed the same . Which I am happy about as I haven't been able to do much this week. I have Sciatica. My own fault. I haven't kept up my exercises. And my toddler class with my grandson was a work out. Had a bad back after it. Then went into my hip. Friday morning at 1am researching on NHS website what it could be. As I was in agony. No point in phoning the Dr already on pain killers but have upped my tablet for nerve pain to 3 a day. I have pain flare ups and my neurologist told me to take an extra tablet and then drop down to my normal 2 when it's back to the level I can tolerate. If I had realised what it was I could have been taking the tablet all week instead of only from Friday. Total my daughter it was my own fault I should have kept up the exercises. She said yes it is. Love that my daughter is honest with me. So started doing my exercises yesterday only the sit down ones. Couldn't do a couple as they hurt. My fitness always said if it hurts stop. I will make sure to do them everyday.

Sarahmob well done staying the same. You have lost a lot lately your body my be adjusting to this new weight and next week will probably see a loss. The Christmas cleaning will be good exercise.

Have a good week pears.

CocoPops Sun 29-Nov-20 22:48:50

Bang on target @ 130lb today.smile Must make an effort to keep it there or even shift a bit more. Our swimming pools are open with physical distancing but I stopped going as the 2nd wave of the pandemic here is much worse than the first, more deaths, more people in hospital and worse to come is predicted. Instead I biked to the beach this morning with my dog where she had a good run and a cold water swim. Brave dog!
Sarahmob Another GC, Super news. Happy knitting!
Dorsetcupcake Could you jazz up your diet with some foods that you don't usually buy to relieve the boredom. eg Exotic fruits?
Whiff I hope your sciatica gets better soon. I know just what you mean about letting exercises lapse! I should do my "fizzo" daily. It only takes 1/2hour but sometimes I don't do it. I've decided to get it over with immediately I return from the morning dog walk but to have a day off on Sundays.

Shirleyw Mon 30-Nov-20 04:57:36

Morning girls...well done for maintaining. ......lost 4 and a quarter lbs this week, very pleased with that....

NanKate Mon 30-Nov-20 08:01:10

ShirleyW respect, 4 and a quarter pounds, brilliant ?

Sarahmob Mon 30-Nov-20 12:54:12

ShirleyW congratulations on the fantastic loss.

Whiff Tue 01-Dec-20 09:08:30

Shirleyw brilliant weight lose. Cocopops glad you are happy to be on target. Thank you all for your messages. Still in pain but bit more mobile. Started doing my exercises on Saturday and doing them everyday. Can't do some but do the sit down ones. Be glad when I can do more but will be patient.

Woke to the most beautiful sky this morning bright blue, red and white clouds. Makes you feel glad to be alive.

Have a great day everyone.

Dorsetcupcake61 Tue 01-Dec-20 09:51:12

Good morning all?. Firstly I was very surprised yesterday to get on the scales and find I'd lost a pound,so maybe I ought to weigh in Mondays!
Indeed Nankate is is as much in the mind as what is in the mouth!
I must admit Whiff and Cocopops I have a freezer full of tasty home made meals,I just dont fancy any of them.! For me it's quite unusual as normally i like food but if I could magically have any dish in front of me I cant think of one I would get excited about! I do wonder if I'm just bored of my own cooking, and indeed cooking! I tend to freeze things such as bolognese, stews, curries that are healthier so even though tasty they are similar texture. One thing I really enjoyed last week was a pork chop, simply baked with herbs and onion, and I rarely eat pork! Time to get creative!
Brilliant news Cocopops! I think for all that are at target or maintaining the best advice was from a friend who had lost and gained the same 4 stone over many years. She finally kept it off by using Scottish swimmers, which was similar to weight watchers. Since then if she gains seven pounds shes straight back on it. Such good advice I wish I'd followed! Something else quite useful was are you tired or thirsty rather than hungry? I found this very effective for stopping late night nibbles!
Brilliant loss Shirleyw ?. Ah stripes, have finished grandsons striped scarf,at last!
Yes,I have been looking at pamper treats my daughter sent. Amongst them is a foot mask. Before I read the instructions I pondered how you could use it without getting mask on floor/slipping and breaking a limb! I wondered if maybe you sat in bath with feet by taps. That however would have needed a level of agility I just dont have. Even assuming I could apply mask and stick feet out of water as I normally shower I'm not 100% sure I wouldnt end up stuck in bath until next Christmas?. Apparently they are little boots which leave on and then rub in remaining lotion!
Yes it was an amazing sky this morning Whiff. There was a lovely feeling to the light that always seems special to early winter, pre Christmas. Have a brilliant week everyone ?.

Shirleyw Wed 02-Dec-20 18:43:35

Thanks guys

my super chunky hot pink bobble hat was put to use today LOL....

Sarahmob Sun 06-Dec-20 07:25:49

Good morning all, I’ve had an early start this morning as I’m now no longer self isolating and I’m looking forward to a long walk along the beach to blow the cobwebs away. All that cleaning must have done the trick, I’ve shifted another pound and a half this week and I’m pleased with that. I want to be in as good a place as possible to counter the inevitable excesses of Christmas. Hope you are well and have had good weeks.
