3 years 7 months ago on 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our new mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

So Onward and Downward Pears ??

Sorry to let the side down sad - but the 2lb I worked so hard to lose found their way back this week.
Much as I was disappointed, I can see why. We had a calorie laden meal for Valentines night and on Friday evening I met up with some old workmates and had an all you can eat Chinese buffet.
I wasn’t going to weigh in yesterday as I knew I would have put on. It did make me work harder at the gym post work out! But then we had family round last night so all that good was undone AGAIN!
We have a birthday meal and a theatre trip planned for next week, followed by a baby shower next weekend.
It feels like I’ll never get anywhere at this rate!
I have a limited amount of clothes I can wear at the moment and refuse to buy anymore in this size.
However, I am determined to keep going and have now set my Nutracheck app to 1250 calories per day and see how that goes.
Well done all you ‘losers’ grin and maintainers! Onwards and downwards!

Four every ounce counts that's my way of thinking. So well done.

Flaxseed you haven't let anyone down we all have our ups and downs. But the fact you keep going and not give up is the main thing and it's hard. Losing weight is a daily battle which we can win or lose. But we keep fighting . It's easy to give up I spent decades doing that. But look on every morning as a new day new start. Keep at you will win in the end.

Storms really picked up here. Glad I am cosy inside.

Whiff Sun 20-Feb-22 12:01:38

Sarah red lentils are filling and low in cals . They can bulk out your meal are filling plus both protein and a veg . Well done maintaining. Half a stone lower is a sensible target . Enjoy your day out.

Keep going all, taking steps to be healthier doesn't matter if they are big or small.

I think I've been looking at my weight issue all wrong and actually it is my mental health that is the real issue.

Having an episode of thyrotoxicosis and the resulting Graves diagnosis really knocked the wind out of me.

My body hasn't recovered and that has led to depression when I can't do all the things I used to do without being exhausted and needing naps to get through the day.

Everyone has been through so much the last few years so I have been avoiding friends and family not wanting them to see how much I have been struggling.

So I am going to figure out what I need to do to recover. I've been left with possible arthritis and still waiting for referral but going to look into what victims I can take, exercises I can do etc. I need to push my body a little I think to get back to my previous level of fitness.

I need to basically love my body more as it is now to improve the situation by filling it with good food and giving it a some gentle exercise.

Keep on keeping on everyone

VioletSky Sun 20-Feb-22 13:27:02

Vitamins that should say! lol I am anemic and I'm not a vampire!

Flaxseed Sun 20-Feb-22 13:51:18

Thanks whiff
Like you, I have often given up in the past, but I just can’t now. And neither do I want to. I am currently making a shopping list to plan the days I am not socialising (but will stick to plan as much as I can on those days)
I have been inputting things in my Nutracheck app to see the nutritional values and it’s quite depressing to find all the hidden sugars and carbs in so called ‘healthy’ things. hmm
I will continue in my quest though!

violet I love the typo ?!
Has your medication been reviewed recently? Maybe that’s contributing to low mood and the need to sleep so much? I hope you can get it sorted.
I think thats a good idea to nourish your body and do some gentle exercise. When theses awful winds subside, maybe just one short walk a day will not only be exercise, but may help you mentally. Much as I hate exercise, I do find it boosts me.
Regarding your friends and family, I am sure they would want to help. There is lots of help out there. The MIND website is good as a start. Please reach out for help brewflowers

ShazzaKanazza Sun 20-Feb-22 13:52:51

Keep going you beautiful fruit ladies.
Life is for living Flaxseed and you have a lot of lovely celebrations. Don’t think it will scupper your diet just of all the people you can enjoy the company of now. When things quieten down that 2lb will come off. I’m the same as you I refuse to buy bigger clothes. I put a quarter of a pound on this week it really is slow going.
VioletSky you are right it’s so important to have a healthy body no matter what size we are. Hope your health soon takes a turn for the better.

Whiff Sun 20-Feb-22 13:53:16

Well I achieved something I didn't think I could do today but didn't intend to do it. I was doing my exercises and went on to my right knee on my cushion but instead of getting back up ended on my bum. Normally I would call my daughter to help me up but thought no I can do this. So shuffled over to the arm chair put 2 cushions under my right knee and pulled myself up.?Won't be doing that move until class on Wednesday incase it happens again. Text my daughter glad I got up but told me not to be silly doing it by myself.

Whiff Sun 20-Feb-22 13:55:56

ShazzaKanazza it's a blip . We are all up and down weight wise . It's a marathon not a sprint. Keep going. It's worth it.

VioletSky Sun 20-Feb-22 13:58:57

Thank you so much, I will I promise

I have just realised something and I don't know if anyone has any advice (doesn't seem worth its own post).

The doctor hasn't prescribed anything for iron this time, I just got my results via a text service. So I just went and got myself some spa tone.

I thought I should be feeling the results after 2 weeks of these so I checked an old prescription for iron tablets and they say they are 200mg whereas the spa tone is only 5mg!

The thing is, things stop moving on the tablets so does anyone have any recommendations for over the counter iron that doesn't leave you bloated and struggling?

Flaxseed Sun 20-Feb-22 14:05:20

whiff well done on managing to get up without help!
My little grandson came round yesterday and wanted me to play with his train set with him. I really struggled getting up and down ?‍♀️!
My mum had knee replacements in her 60’s and although I am not quite into my 60’s yet, I am already starting to suffer how she did pre op.
I want to avoid surgery so losing the extra weight and toning my legs up are important for me. But it’s catch 22 as I do struggle with the exercises! (But am getting better at them)
shazza I am certainly going to enjoy all of the functions and work hard to stick to plan on every other day.

ShazzaKanazza Sun 20-Feb-22 14:05:33

Thanks Whiff you are right and definately don’t be doing that move again on your own.

Flaxseed Sun 20-Feb-22 18:25:57

I think you should chat to your Dr.
They will know the dosage you should be taken, plus what laxatives will suit you. They will also need to repeat your bloods to check they are working.
Hopefully the right dosage will make you feel a lot better!

I am off for my final (I hope) night shift ever! But it’s absolutely pouring down and so so windy again. I hate driving in the dark as it is, and feel really worried confused!

Flaxseed Sun 20-Feb-22 18:26:18

Taking. Not taken ?

VioletSky Sun 20-Feb-22 18:32:01

Flaxseed seeing or speaking to a doctor here is really difficult but I will try lol

Flaxseed Sun 20-Feb-22 19:54:48

violetsky
I’m really angry about how inaccessible Drs are these days angry
Hopefully you can get a phone appointment or maybe even see if they have an email system. My friends surgery has this and she finds it really helpful when she doesn’t need to actually see anyone, but just needs advice.

Madgran77 Sun 20-Feb-22 21:35:07

I thought I should be feeling the results after 2 weeks of these so I checked an old prescription for iron tablets and they say they are 200mg whereas the spa tone is only 5mg!

Floravital is 95mg per 100mls. And eat about 6 prunes a day for the other problem or try Fibogel powders stirred into water and drink.

Madgran77 Sun 20-Feb-22 21:36:04

Stayed the same this week but really upped my exercise and feeling the benefits! grin

NanKate Sun 20-Feb-22 21:50:42

Well done Whiff for solving the problem. I have to get on my hands and knees to light the gas fire. Some days I have to crawl to the sofa to pull myself up. I just hope no one sees me through my bay window, as they would see my backside, not a pretty sight ?

Allsorts Mon 21-Feb-22 08:44:21

Join the club Flaxseed, I have repeatedly over the last few years, given up my healthy eating about 6 weeks in. I lose half a stone, which I have now, then I stick at that weight for a couple of weeks and ultimately give in. Not this time, I have not lost an ounce this week. I did have a lot of treats on my day off. I am going to stick with it this time. I have lost 2” off my waist, it’s so nice not to feel I need to go up a size. Eventually after being in this doldrums stage where nothing much alters I’ve got to start losing again, the main thing is not putting it on.
Whiff, your weight loss has been astounding, as you say the weight you have lost would have made getting about so much harder and probably resulted in surgery. Less weight, less strain on backs, knees everything. I’m not timing myself as to when this extra 12 lbs has to go, if it happens this year I will be happy, just don’t want to get any bigger plus getting healthier.

NanKate Mon 21-Feb-22 09:15:02

Well said Allsorts. It’s so easy to give up, but as Pears and Apples we keep on the Eating Less for Life journey. I think the support we get from each other here is second to none. ?

Whiff Mon 21-Feb-22 09:54:12

Madgran staying the same is an achievement and uping your exercise is good. But remember if you build up muscle it weights more than fat . That's why I always say measure yourself as some weeks I put on or stayed the same but lost inches. Madness I know but true.

Allsorts I stuck at the same weight for 7 weeks but lost an inch. But the main thing is you are keeping at it. And 2 inches off your waist is brilliant. I have never set myself a time limit to lose the weight . Always failed at that in the past. So if it takes me a year to lose the last 1st 4lbs so be it . We all have the same goal not just to lose weight but get healthier and fitter. And together we can do it.

Flaxseed Mon 21-Feb-22 13:55:32

Like you, I can’t give up this time.
I think the heath implication will keep me going if nothing else.
I think we are all more aware of where we are going wrong when we don’t lose.
I remember reading that one biscuit a day over our calorie allowance is enough to gain weight.
When I was younger, I could get away with the odd treat, but now my body requirements have slowed up I simply cannot.
I have set my calorie intake lower this week to see if it makes a difference. hmm

VioletSky Mon 21-Feb-22 14:03:03

Brilliant, thank you Madgran

I'm not sold on the prunes... I will try..... Lol

It's really demoralising when weight doesn't seem to shift but u don't think its ever a perfect downward trend doing all the right things

I've stayed the same a few weeks now but possibly the prunes would help there

Madgran77 Mon 21-Feb-22 14:22:04

I'm not sold on the prunes... I will try..... Lol

Soft prunes from Holland and Barrett are good

You might find the Fibogel sachets in water easier
