3 years 7 months ago on 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our new mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

So Onward and Downward Pears ??

Psyllium husks are great for regulating things. Get the capsules, not the powder, as that is vile grin.

It works in a similar way to Fibrogel and similar, but you just swallow the caps instead of having to drink a disgusting drink. If you get the H&B ones (they are often on special offer) take more than the dose they recommend, as they are weaker than the more expensive ones like Solgar.

Basically, they swell up in the stomach, and absorb liquid, so if you are bunged up they help things along, and if you have the opposite problem they help with that too. It's a gentle but effective solution.

I have been on this thread a long while now when did it turn into a health site . If you have health issues you need help with go on the health forum. I don't want to know about people's bowel movements.

Yes I do mention when I am seeing a consultant. But I do not ask people for help I just mention it in conversation. Like many of us do if we are unwell or health problems are causing problems with our healthy eating for life aim. Old hands know what I mean.

One pound down this week which is surprising because my no.1 son is having a rough time with damn Covid which led me to comfort eat. Battle on Gals.

Whiff Tue 22-Feb-22 06:59:41

Cocopops well done with the loss. Worry for your son has probably burned off the extra cals. Hope he feels better soon.

Madgran and doodledog thank you both, I've made an order. I think if I can get this sorted my energy levels will be better and I can finally get going properly (with the weight loss).

I'd really like to be able to do my coat up in this weather!

Oh that interesting Doodledog Fibogel is made from Psyllium husks but I didnt know there were capsules. I dont find the drink vile but would happily not drink it. That's why I use prunes!!

Back to my daily weighing…..looks promising so far….having 2 long days out with work, we went to Southend on sea yesterday, whilst the person I supported had a chocolate cookie in Starbucks I had a skinny cap. And lunchtime while the person had some glorious fish and chips I brought my own flask of tomato soup and a mini flat bread, also a bag of fruit for the day…..I’m well pleased with myself as usually if I have a day out I don’t choose ‘wisely’. today is Aylesbury and I’m taking my own lunch again….I made up some couscous in ham stock with 15gms sultanas, half a small tin sweetcorn and 30gms feta light…trying to be more organised again with my work lunches, was letting things slide.
Shall report the outcome at the end of the week…after the weekend challenges lol…
Hope your all having a fine week….

Whiff Thu 24-Feb-22 05:30:45

Shirley good food choices. I haven't cooked a ham hock for years. Used to love a ham hock stew.

At exercise class got on the floor and did the floor exercises. But had problems getting up my arms collapsed on me trying to push up. My instructor's had to help me. But won't get on the floor again . Couldn't hold my fork in my left hand dinner time. And had to have extra pain killers in the night. So annoyed as the floor exercises where easy to do but no good if I can't get up by myself. When I let my daughter know yesterday she said don't do it again. I was going to have a go next week but after the night I've had it's not worth it. Won't be able to go too my craft group today. I should have know better so annoyed with myself. I know my limits.

CocoPops Thu 24-Feb-22 06:32:47

Don't be cross with yourself Whiff. You tried. Be pleased, enormously pleased, with your fantastic achievement losing a shed load of weight.

Whiff Thu 24-Feb-22 08:08:50

Cocopops thank you. My daughter didn't want me to try but I am stubborn but at least I know for definite I can't do floor exercises. But on the plus side can get down lower for the squats and get my knees up higher and am getting more repetitions done in the time.

Hope you haven't been having all the storms we have over here. Apparently Gladys is on its way.

NanKate Thu 24-Feb-22 21:50:34

Hope you are feeling better Whiff.

I gave up floor exercises about 2 years ago and don’t miss them at all. I concentrate on keeping my legs moving. ?

Shirleyw Sun 27-Feb-22 06:56:57

Hope you have recovered whiff.

Lost 2lbs ,

Have a good week…..a proper ‘jack frost’ this morning but will turn out to be another lovely sunny day , be nice if it was a degree or two warmer though…..

Whiff Sun 27-Feb-22 09:17:42

Fully recovered thank all. Well done Shirley with the loss . Very cold here but no frost. Lost quarter of a pound this week. As long as it's a loss I am winning.

At least I will be able to do my exercises today. Minus getting on my knee. Seeing the urologist on Tuesday so hopefully they will organise some tests. But at least they are seeing me.

Have a good week everyone. ?

fourormore Sun 27-Feb-22 10:27:13

Not surprised that I have put on a pound this week - in fact I'm surprised it's not more as being half-term there are have naughties about.
Will be worse next weekend I expect as we're away for few days while the decorator transforms our front room. Dinner, Bed and Breakfast is a real treat but I will stay really alert and as sensible as possible both with the covid and the food!
Well done those with any result - you're still here which is the important part! Onwards and downwards as they say!

Sarahmob Sun 27-Feb-22 13:48:46

Good morning ladies,
Another maintain this week, so I’m sitting at target nicely. Even managed a yummy afternoon tea with no lasting damage to the scales. Although it was pretty much all I had to eat on Friday as it was so big and I didn’t feel hungry for the rest of the day. Not the healthiest way to do it I know but once in a while …
I’m planning on going for a long walk later this afternoon, I’m really trying to get back into exercising but have got a bit lazy and although I usually enjoy it once I get going, the getting going takes an effort.

Good to read of all the losses and well done to all for keeping on the downwards path.

Have a good week everyone

NanKate Sun 27-Feb-22 14:31:04

Don’t worry Four this time next week you will have lost it.

I realised recently that my trousers were feeling tight. I’m not one for weighing myself much (bad habit) so I jumped on them yesterday to find I have gained 5lbs in the last 6 months ?. My plan is to sort out all my old paperwork I have on calorie counting and do like Whiff does, weigh everything and keep a careful note.

We are going away for 11 days this coming week to look after our 2 grandsons 9 and 11 and as that is alway chaotic I will start the count on my return, but try to keep off the dark chocolate in my son’s fridge whilst I’m away. ???

Doodledog Sun 27-Feb-22 16:11:37

I have been on this thread a long while now when did it turn into a health site . If you have health issues you need help with go on the health forum. I don't want to know about people's bowel movements.

If that was aimed at my recommendation of psyllium caps, I am sorry - I didn't know there were rules about what we should post, or that the length of time we have 'been on the thread' was a consideration.

Whiff Sun 27-Feb-22 17:19:14

Doodledog I was trying to say if you needed health questions answered the health forum is a mind of information. I have asked questions there and gotten help from people having the same problems.

NanKate started this site for like minded who are trying to lose weight and get healthier.

You can talk about other things and write as much as you like.

I didn't mean to upset you. There are enough people on Gransnet who's only aim is to hurt others I am not one if them.

Please accept my apology I wouldn't hurt you for the world or anyone else.

Doodledog Sun 27-Feb-22 21:17:05

No problem. If I've picked your comment up the wrong way, I'm sorry.

There's enough stress in the world without adding to it on here smile.

NanKate Sun 27-Feb-22 21:19:25

Whiff Sun 27-Feb-22 22:28:58

Doodledog thank you. ?

Monday weigh in and half a pound down. Not much but I've been feeling my energy come up and my appetite go down the last few days on a good dose of iron so I'm really happy with that.

Wishing everyone a productive week

chelseababy Mon 28-Feb-22 08:26:31

I'd like to (re)join please. I was on ww but so many groups closed down. My weight went up to highest ever last October. I joined a Slimming World group as it was local and at a convenient time. I'd tried SW before but didn't get on with it. Anyway this time it "clicked" and 2 weeks ago I got to target! We then had visitors for the following weekend where lots of food and red ? were consumed. Also had fish and chips the night before weigh in last Saturday and had put on half a pound, could have been a lot worse!

I could really do with losing another 7 pounds but am trying to maintain for a while which is often harder than losing. I've been dieting for 30 years, if I could have maintained the first time I wouldn't be here now!

Hoping to receive and offer support here.

Good luck everyone!

Flaxseed Mon 28-Feb-22 11:34:02

This week I lost the 2lb that I lost after Xmas and then put back on hmm
So I am now back to where I was a couple of weeks ago!
But this weekend hasn’t been great so I will probably put it on again
I need to get past this blooming 2lbs!
confused
Well done to all the losers and maintainers! Good luck to everyone this week.

Soroptimum Mon 28-Feb-22 12:04:06

Hello everyone. My first post here, hoping for some moral support which I know you’ll give!
I need to lose 2 stone ideally but have an initial target of 1 stone in 12 week’s time when my son comes to visit from Australia. I’ve started on the Fast 800 last Tuesday, already lost 2lb. Most importantly I’ve completely cut out alcohol. I used to have a couple (!) of glasses of wine every night which I know was so bad. Downwards and onwards.
