Thanks Pears for your understanding re my son. I felt better for sharing it with you. He's another one with a rare condition but sadly there is no treatment for it. We can only hope that it progresses very, very slowly.
Whiff What a shock to actually receive your diagnosis after so many years. I hope you feel better now that you know what your condition actually is. Fingers crossed you can find an online support group if that's what you want.

Silver Take it easy and don't get overtired before your op. The future will be a lot better.

Cocopops well done with the lose. Sorry about your son hopefully it progresses very slowly. I know how my parents felt when I got ill. My dad blamed himself thought it was because he had dengue fever in the army in the second world war. If my parents where still alive I wouldn't tell my mom I got it from her . Loved her to much and she couldn't have lived with the guilt.

There is a 50% change my children could have it or be carriers. And my brother may have it or be a carrier. Hopefully my neurologist will arrange for their blood to be genetically tested.

Had some brilliant news yesterday my brother and sister in law exchanged contracts and are leaving the Midlands today and staying with friends tonight and get the keys for their bungalow tomorrow. New home new life.

Another pound off for me, I seem to be on a roll, hope it lasts and I haven't jinxed it

Hello everyone,I'm back,although I have popped in for catch up occasionally! Love to all. Chaotic few weeks-well over a month! I've found myself applying for my own job-getting it -realising I dont want it -and getting another! All been quite stressful. Diet varied between making sensible choices to lots of comfort eating. End result is a gain of just under 4lb.
Tbh I'm surprised it's not more! Still ,I haven taken the important step of logging it I'm my little note book and on here! Onwards and downwards?

I fell off the wagon yesterday and gobbled some crisps, then had a Sherry with an oat biscuit, then a chewy mint. Back on track today.

Weight still stable, better than an increase. I feel better than I did, more active so have hope of reporting a loss next week. Good luck everyone.

Oh dear, gone up a point! Delicious curry meal might have something to with it!! ?

I havnt done as well as I hoped but have pulled back a couple of pounds, which would be fine if I didn’t need to lose a couple of stones. Well one at least and it’s unlikely now as my operation is in a few days. An explanation might be the bar of ferrero plain chocolate I found hidden away last night. Why can’t I just stop after a couple of squares instead of almost the whole bar. Just too delicious.
I will be back. In the meantime hold firm your resolution all. We know it makes sense.

I’m another 1lb down this week, these grand babies are keeping me busy! We went to the pictures this evening and I was very tempted to have an ice cream, but there was a massive queue so decided not to bother. Will save the treat until tomorrow (my normal treat day).

We’ve all been there Silverlining. Next time you feel you can’t stop eating the choc bar, after the first 2 pieces say to yourself I will eat more if I want to but I will wait 10 minutes before doing so. I read this tip somewhere and surprisingly it worked for me and I found that after 10 mins the compulsion to binge had gone, it’s worth a try. Losing weight is all in the brain imo nothing to do with hunger.

Stayed the same this week - am now planning to restart after this Easter week as I know there will be treats during our festivities next weekend. I'm happy not to have gained but like everyone on this thread, wish it would go off as quickly as it goes on!
Well done everyone for simply sticking to it - we will have losses but we will also fall of the wagon every now and again - we're HUMAN!

Silverlining that's why I daren't have chocolate in as I can never stop at one square same goes for ice cream the whole tub would be gone in a day.
Just think positive thoughts to get you through your operation. Don't know how long you will be in hospital but at least you can't snack as meals are set times . You will be fit and healthy ready for summer.

Sarah will done with the loss . Grandchildren differently keep you on your toes. My daughter's 2 are 4 and 18 months.

Putting on is part of the course eating less for life Madgran. Like Four says we are human.

I am in the stayed the same camp but that's ok. Spent nearly 2 hours weeding today . Think I will be having a nap this afternoon.

I've got myself in a bit of a pickle.

Life has been very stressful and I think it's set my thyroid off again. I'm dropping weight at quite a ridiculous rate. Almost 6 pounds in the last week.
I comfort eat when I'm unhappy but this is stress and I have lost my appetite. Probably only eating 800 to 1000 calories a day.

My resting heart rate is up 10bpm over the last 9 days.

I'm on 3 monthly blood tests and I can't get hold of the consultant to bring them forward.

Didn't want to hit my target this way

VioletSky you do sound in a right state? so sorry you are feeling like this and your right it’s no way to lose the weight. That’s hardly any calories at all you are consuming in a day.
When I’m stressed and upset I can’t eat either and feel constantly sick.
I’ll give you my hand to hold because i don’t know what else I can say?

violetsky I am sorry to hear this. It makes me feel so depressed that we can’t get the help we need in a timely manner (if at all )

Out of the 3lb I have managed (struggled!) to lose this year, I have put 2lb back on.
I am not in the right headspace after DD2 being unwell after her second pregnancy. Just the same as her first. It’s a constant worry.
But that’s for another thread, maybe.

I feel like I am will be stuck in this overweight state forever now, and I don’t like it.
Why is it so hard?

Flaxseed I thought I would always be obese but that was the old me. 2017 was a turning point for me in my life. My mom died and finally no one was dependent on me anymore. Sounds callous but my husband died in 2004 aged 47 had both my parents and mother in law to look after. Mom was the last to die. Then I got jaundice and was seriously ill for 5 months and was told by my gastrologist I could have died. While recovering from the jaundice I had a lot of time to think couldn't do much else. So I decided what did I want our if life. Turns out only 3 things. Move to live closer to my children, lose weight and get fit.

Moved to my bungalow 2019 ,lost 7st was size 32 now a 16 . Still got just over stone to go. And go to Active ageing classes. I am fitter and happier than I have been for decades.

When my husband died half of me died to and I am still not whole 18 years later. But I have made a new life for myself. Found out I am was a gardener , go to my exercise class and a craft group.

So Flaxseed have a think what is do you want. And go for it.

Losing weight is a marathon not a sprint . If I lost quarter pound a week I was happy. Even when I have out weight or stayed the same for weeks I haven't given up. I haven't set myself a time limit if it takes another year to lost the last weight so be it.

Flaxseed thank you, it's awful right now, I'm not blaming anyone for that given the circumstances but it is worrying. My condition was almost missed for lack of a simple blood test.

If Graves has taught me one thing though, it is that bodies are a complex balance of hormones and systems that are impacted by more than just diet and exercise. All sorts of things affect metabolism etc. It doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong.

The important thing is that you are conscious and aware of your health no matter what you weigh.

The changes that are going to stick and make the differences long term can be so little, like setting a goal of water a day or learning to like tea with no sugar or just one less roast potato.

I'm very lucky right now that short term stress has put me in a position to shrink my appetite. It's a cheat in a way, just not a deliberate or wanted one obviously...

Also, if we weren't conscious of health, how much could things go in the other direction? You are winning, I promise.

Have put on 1.4lb this week but not surprised as we had GD birthday buffet including cake, a meal out and also the biscuits have led me astray!
Some of us are struggling at the moment - Flaxseed, Violet Sky and Cornergran - hang on with us - things will improve. You will all have great support as we're all in the same boat and paddling upstream! We speak of us being in a mixed fruit bowl - some of us, including me are in the Pickle Jar!!!
I firmly believe that the pandemic has worn us all down. So many people around me are testing positive and becoming pretty poorly. All those who say it's ok because 'we don't get it as bad' are (in my humble opinion!!!) in the 'I'm alright Jack camp' - anyone testing positive could easily pass it to a more vulnerable person who may not be so lucky or even to key workers. Our hospitals are struggling because staff are off with it.
I know my temptations leading me to the biscuits are due to sheer frustration.
An elderly friend of mine and her friend complained to me this week that the buses are so full they had to stand and then missed to next bus they planned on catching. They then decided to go on another bus instead which was equally crowded! They weren't going anywhere particular, just a ride out! It's the school holidays, we're a seaside town and we have loads of visitors! No way are H and I going anywhere this week! Walking only is on our agenda!
Things will improve - stick with it everyone - and please Flax, Corner and Violet (and any others who are struggling) don't give up - we are all here for each other!

Flaxseed if you have foods that you can't resist don't buy them. It's the only way I didn't eat them. I have no stop when it comes to chocolate,ice cream , biscuits ,bread products and cheese apart from cheddar which I can control. I cut a block up and freeze between 50-60g chunks.

Just make little changes like adding extra veg and less meat. And you will find your will power or as Four says Mr Will Power.

Four Happy Easter . Up here most people have started wearing masks again on the bus and in shops. I haven't stopped. The numbers are coming down but still over 1,000this week. I don't see the point of going out for no reason. Just riding on a bus seems pointless. Why don't they have a walk in a park instead much better for you.

As expected this week up a 1lb but have been eating hot cross buns. My daughter and family brought me a Lindt chocolate bunny the smallest size. Was going to keep it for today but I heard it's siren call last night saying eat me so I did yum.

It's a beautiful day here today had my washing pegged out since 9 sunny with a breeze. Will sit in the garden later with my hat on of course.

Yesterday planted 62 french bean seeds and they are cosy in my greenhouse. My daughter and son in law put the new panels in for me on Friday and sealed them with silicone sealant. Will put netting over it late autumn ready for the winter storms. That way I won't lose any panels again.

Friday the Easter bunny took pity on me and helped me eat an entire galaxy Easter egg as we did our easter egg hunt early due to a family visit. Not the best calories but better than under eating and feeling ill and shaky all the time. I've eaten proper full sized meals since and feel so much better. I need to focus on those small changes now because my body is not an either or situation, it needs fuel but not too much and definitely not too little.

I hope everyone is enjoying some sunshine and has a lovely day of rest
