3 years 7 months ago on 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our new mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

So Onward and Downward Pears ??

I will take a look at the yoghurt maker on Sunday, might be tempted.
SashaMac you’ve cheered me up, when I started tge weight loss journey in the new year, which I kept to and was slowly losing weight, I lost I think about 8 lbs, then I back slides and out it back on, now I still have a stone to lose but from when I started all those months ago I am 6 pounds lighter. Not much for so long with all the back sliding I have done. The problem has been my health, not being so mobile and staying in a lot I turned to food a bit. Now things have stabilised and I will find new activities hopefully even if it takes a year to lose that stone I’m going to keep trying, just weighed myself, which I shouldn’t as my weigh in day is Monday and I am still the same.

Good morning Pears. ?. Well done everyone for keeping motivated whether scales go up or down!,
The weeks seem to just race by! Your holiday sounds awesome Whiff, very active too. It certainly sounds a lovely place to visit.
My eldest daughter, son in law and grandsons came down after several cancellations. A lovely day was had, even the weather was nice but cooler.
There was a slight covid panic after a niece they visited tested positive, none of the rest of us have.
Unfortunately shortly after they returned home they have all developed a sickness bug. Fortunately its been staggered with a 24hr wait until next person gets it!
There seem to be so many colds/ coughs/ viruses at the moment!
I put on 2lb two weeks ago but have lost it again which seems to be my pattern. I really do need to focus!
Have a great week everyone!

fourormore Sun 28-Aug-22 09:21:01

Well done everyone for hanging on in there - I am still well and truly stuck on my plateau - a loss of 0.4lb this week but I know in my heart of hearts that it will be back on next weekend as I have remained within a 1lb/2lb bracket for months now.
Hey ho, such is life - I will continue to stagger on with the lovely support of the Pears!!!!
Good luck everyone!

Whiff Sun 28-Aug-22 11:37:34

I have lost 1.75lbs this week. Which I am pleased with but I am under no illusion that in a few weeks I will probably put on or stay the same. But I keep plugging away.

Watched Curvy Brides boutique yesterday. It's my Saturday afternoon viewing. All the women who have lost weight say the same thing they still feel and see themselves as they where. I am still like that . I look at a gap and think can I get through it. But of course I can now but still have the size 32 mind set. I know it's ridiculous but perhaps it will make sure I never get that size ever again.

Dorset well done losing the 2lb and Four you have lost as well. It doesn't matter how much it's still a win.

Our exercise instructor is a harder taskmaster than our old one. One exercise which we though would be easy was a killer on the front of my thighs. We had to sit near the front of our chair and march then had to march very fast for 10 secs then to front taps back to marching then fast again 4 times. She said it's to easy doing it standing up but sitting down it works the thigh muscles more. Then had to stand and do 20 squats. This week should be our last class but she said we will see . If it is I am looking into another class as I don't want to lose what I can do. As I feel the classes have helped with my strength and stability. Ok still fall into things or completely down but not as often. And can lift more weight than I could but still can't open some packaging without scissors. But I have improved over all. So it's a win.

Have a good week pears.

Hi all, hope everyone’s ok and enjoyed the last bank hol for a while. It sounds like most of you managed to have a loss which is good. I’m afraid I chickened out on my Slimming World weigh in this week. Too many treats over the bank hol and a family afternoon tea party for one of my Granddaughters that involved lots of scones with clotted cream & delicious cakes, later in the evening they cranked up the pizza oven!!? The problem with me is once I’m off track I can take a few days to get back into good habits. As always when I have over done it with sweet stuff & carbs I felt pretty rough the following day, almost like a sugar hangover. I should learn my lesson really!!

I hope you find a new exercise class Whiff, that one does sound as though it’s been beneficial for you. My neighbour has just been telling me about an aqua jog class at our local Leisure Centre, she suffers with pain in her feet but says because you’re in a flotation ring and in the deep end you are literally floating and jogging in the deep water. She says she feels wonderful afterwards so I may look into that as I have arthritis in my spine it should be good. I have done physio in the pool which helped but that was only a six week course.

Hope everyone is doing ok, I guess we have all been overindulging a little over the BH. Fingers crossed we will have a loss to report next week, I’m quite determined to drop at least a stone by Christmas, I know it’s easier said than done. Take care all ?

Sarahmob Wed 31-Aug-22 13:15:06

Hi everyone,
We were away for the bank holiday and cooked breakfasts and a lovely afternoon tea saw a couple of pounds put on. However I am straight back on my eating less for life regime (and quite pleased to be back on it tbh) and am looking to get them off very quickly. On the plus side, every night at dinner I turned down pudding because I didn’t want one which two years ago would have been unheard of. My taste buds have definitely changed.
Keep going everyone and posting your news which always cheers and inspires.

Whiff Wed 31-Aug-22 14:34:16

Had some good news at exercise class we have another 4 weeks. Yah. Took. Brownies but didn't have one just had a biscuit. They all went as usual.

Glad you had a good time Sacha and Sarah.

Shirleyw Thu 01-Sept-22 06:03:18

Hi all, put on 1/4 lb so that wasn’t bad for a weekend away. We all had fun camping and plenty of fresh air, luckily the weather was good.
Well done on the losses fourormore & whiff.
That’s good whiff your exercise class carrying on for another 4 weeks.
Going to be busy for the next week as looking after the granddaughters so shall be doing the school run!

Have a good week , getting autumnal and a bit chilly in the mornings now.

fourormore Sun 04-Sept-22 10:50:59

Really naughty week hmm - very little proper exercise due to various commitments and our 45th Wedding Anniversary that everyone (except ourselves!) forgot angry!!!
Why do adult offspring never remember our birthdays and anniversaries etc. but 'remind everyone' for weeks when theirs are approaching smile
Funny thing is that if we we laid on a family meal at our expense they would all manage to be there! We're beyond worrying about that sort of thing nowadays and we will have great delight over the next few weeks 'mentioning' that we are going away for Christmas again this year to celebrate not only Christmas but our Sapphire Wedding Anniversary!!! We are spending their inheritance haha!!!!
A lovely home delivery Chinese gringringrin made up for the disappointment but the scales had no mercy so it's a gain of 2lb. sadsadsad
Hopefully this coming week will be better but I'm ok about the gain as I know the reasons why!
Good luck fellow pears as we continue our mission! flowers

Whiff Mon 05-Sept-22 11:19:47

Happy anniversary four and Mr F. Sorry everyone else forgot . Did you get a sapphire from Mr F? For special anniversaries my dad always took mom to the jewellery quarter in Birmingham as you could get rings etc cheaper there. He used to save for years when a special anniversary came up. But he always got mom a bouquet of flowers every anniversary. One year money was very tight so he brought a couple of flowers and the rest was made up of wild flowers he picked. That was mom's favourite bouquet. Funny how you triggered that memory. Thank you for that.

Being waited on at Christmas lovely hope when you booked you said it was your special anniversary as some hotels add free extras.

Shirley that's a blip I had one as well put on 1/2lb. Having my 3rd pain flare in 5 weeks. Annoys the hell out of me. So haven't been as careful but back on track again.

Four your gain is a blip it's not everyday you celebrate 45 years with your other half.

An odd thing has happened to one of my sunflower heads. It's disappeared . Looks like something chewed through the stem but it's not in my garden or neighbours. Whatever took it must have been strong as it was large.

Have a good week pears .

NanKate Tue 06-Sept-22 08:20:26

Belated 45 Anniversary wishes Four.

Just back from a 4 day hols in Wells Somerset. I gave to admit chocolate has been eaten whilst away and a rum and raisin ice-cream. ?

Back on the wagon

SachaMac Wed 07-Sept-22 12:16:33

Congratulations on your 45th anniversary fourormore it’s certainly something to celebrate, hope you enjoyed your Chinese takeaway. You did well Shirley after a weekend away that’s a great result.

I returned reluctantly to my SW group yesterday, had a nice text from the leader saying they’d missed me last week & it prompted me to go back. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I had maintained from two weeks ago. This has got me focussed again and I’m getting back on track, now the school hols are over it should be easier to get into a routine. I’m making a SW version of Moussaka later and I will freeze some portions, the 5% fat mince is on offer in Sainsburys at the moment.

Wonder where your sunflower head went Whiff maybe it was the squirrels, taking it back to store for the winter, they’re resourceful little creatures and love sunflowers seeds.

Right off out in the garden now to tidy up a few things while the weathers still good. It always seems to get autumnal very quickly once the children are back in school.

Have a good week all ?

Whiff Thu 08-Sept-22 06:48:11

Sacha well do staying the same. Hope you had a good time in the garden. One of my friends at exercise said it could have been a squirrel we do get them daily here. As long as they stay outside that's fine. But did have one in my loft . Thought it was trying to get through the ceiling. Pest control got rid of it. Put up traps and bait thankfully it didn't come back. My roofers squirrel proofed my roof.

Had a good time at exercise and some good news about a class to go to when this one finishes in 3 weeks. One of our instructors is leaving . A number of the ones in their 20's have got as many promotions as they can with the council so are either moving on or setting up their own classes. So she told us about her class and isn't too far from where I live and at a time I can get to using my bus pass. All my class are going to go. The main instructor finds working for the council ideal as she has 2 children.
Mind you I did have to ask where the area it is was. Been here 3 years but because of Covid didn't explore and still not sure where different areas are ?.

Spent the rest of the afternoon at my daughter's. She text Tuesday night as my grandson asked if I want to come and play. A few weeks ago they took the 45l storage box of Lego my children had when young. I had keep it and had given it a good wash. I had to sit down and shut my eyes and hold out my hands. He had asked his mom if nannie could have some flowers and a card to say thank you. He picked the flowers and card and signed his name in it. He's 4 and started school on Tuesday. Once his brother is old enough it will be safe for him to play with he's not 2 . A few years yet.

Made a cake to go to craft group. Had to check the mixture was ok and the icing but that's as much as I am having. Satisfies my baking habit without all the calories. ?.

Forecast heavy rain and thunder and lightning again today. But it's doing the garden a world of good.

Post is on strike today and tomorrow.

SachaMac Thu 08-Sept-22 12:58:17

That’s made me smile Whiff lovely that your GS wanted to thank you with the card & flowers. I still have a great big yellow box full of Lego here that was my sons (he is now 40) all of the grandchildren love playing with it but it does tend to get everywhere smile. His youngest daughter started school on Monday too, big day for them all.

We had torrential rain here yesterday afternoon, I got drenched getting the washing in!! Still the lawns starting to look a little greener so that’s good.

Whiff Fri 09-Sept-22 09:55:08

Pears we have entered a new era. We no longer have a Queen but a King. I am still feeling sad over the death of our Queen. Odd in a way. But all my life she has been there. They say things come in 3's wonder what the third will be ? As we have a new King and PM. What's next.
?

SachaMac Fri 09-Sept-22 11:32:59

Yes a very sad day, I was surprised how upset I was, especially seeing the footage of her with Prince Philip. You can see how rapidly she deteriorated after his death, it’s understandable though, I imagine he was her rock.

I wish King Charles well, his mother will be a very hard act to follow.

Have a good weekend Pears flowers

Shirleyw Sat 10-Sept-22 03:35:13

It is sad about the Queen, just a few days before her death she met the new PM, quite amazing. Yes, I also wish King Charles well.

I stayed the same which is good as I have been on ‘granny duties’ for a week, stayed at my daughters house whilst she was away. Back now for a well earned rest lol.

fourormore Sat 10-Sept-22 10:25:08

Thank you all for your anniversary wishes - we have had a few treats so I'm getting my excuses for Sunday's weigh in done now!!!
This isn't the main thread for these thoughts but it's lovely that we pears feel we can share our own thoughts so I join you all in sadness on the death of our Queen.
Isn't it strange how it seems to be affecting us - I feel like she was part of my life. I have only met her once, way back when she celebrated her silver jubilee in 1977. I'm sure she wouldn't have remembered me but she has just always been there hasn't she. The Platinum Jubilee was such an amazing show of our pageantry which I hope will never end.
The Queen looked frail then and obviously 'sat out' several of the events but it was obvious that she was so happy and enjoyed every minute.
Tomorrow is my weigh-in day but I'm not sure there'll be much change - we'll see!

Whiff Sun 11-Sept-22 09:24:40

Well my weight has stayed the same which I am glad as had a couple of over eating days. Been getting the garden winter ready. Planted seed potatoes , leek, kale and rocket seeds to grow in my greenhouse over winter so hopefully have my own veg in the winter months. My first time trying . One of my butternut squashes was getting bigger and had raised it up off the soil so it wouldn't rot with all the rain . Unfortunately water must have pooled under it and it rotted ☹️. But have another one growing so hopefully that will be ok.

At least we know when the Queen's funeral will be . Be very different than Prince Philip's no Covid rules. At least she died in a home and place she loved.

Have a good week all.

Dorsetcupcake61 Sun 11-Sept-22 10:35:38

Good morning lovely Pears. Sad and strange times indeed at the moment. My daughter and I were both WFH on Thursday and glued to the television. Like many we were surprised at how emotional we felt. I've never met her ,but she's always been there and I think done a good job. Her speech during Lockdown was so needed and so comforting. I remember being so relieved/ pleased to see her during this years jubilee. As for the little sketch with Paddington❤️. It's strange hearing the phrase King. Still things change and life goes on .
Diet wise,oh dear. My weight has gone down,up,down and now up! I'm still under the stone mark ,but perilously so?. I think the biggest mistake I have made is buying a loaf of bread. Toast is my downfall, especially with butter and marmalade. ! On wards and down wards! Have a good week everyone.

fourormore Sun 11-Sept-22 10:39:06

I agree Whiff - it was good that the Queen died peacefully in a place she loved.
Life will be changed but I feel King Charles with Camilla for support will be fine for us all. I feel they will work well together and I admire how he has coped over the past few days and am glad he has his sister and brothers for support.
I am pleased to report a loss of 1.4lb this week but as I put on 2lb last week I'm not on the bragging step yet! Still a loss is a loss hmm
Good luck everyone as we start a new week flowers

CocoPops Sun 11-Sept-22 16:26:05

Greetings all.
Yes, a sad day on Thursday when the Queen died.
My weight hovers around a pound or two either side of my target which is OK.

NanKate Mon 12-Sept-22 08:08:25

Thank you Whiff for starting the tribute to our late, great Queen and yes Four it is heart warming that our small band of Losers can come together with our thoughts at this very sad time.

Rest in Peace your Majesty ?

Allsorts Tue 13-Sept-22 07:32:41

In a month I have lost just 1 lb. I have no sugar at all, very little fat, no butter, careful about portion size, yet I'm stuck. I always stick at 11.st and in the end give up, but not this time. I do not exercise as I should because of a health problem, but don't sit around either. I know if I give in the pounds I have lost, 7, will be back on in a few weeks, so will persevere. Think it will come to me giving up the 2 slices of wholemeal bread I have every lunchtime for crisp breads instead, but I don't want to. They taste like sawdust to me.Also I have one day a week off, that will have to stop.
Well done those who continue yo life, however small the loss better than a gain.
Agree with how sad I was to hear of the Queen dying, yet she was a great age, didn't suffer, was in the place she loved most in the world, reunited with Philip. I think Charles will be a good King, can't help but think all these official functions at his age must be so wearying, for Camilla too.

fourormore Tue 13-Sept-22 11:30:07

Don't give up Allsorts - being stuck is a ***** as I've had that several times and in the past I have given up. You will get all the support you need on this thread as we are all in the same boat and all struggling.
I am currently on a plateau - my only advice to you is to consider whether you are actually eating enough? You say you have no sugar/fat/butter etc. so it could be that you are not putting enough fuel in??? I know it sounds ridiculous but if the body is hungry it will store everything possible in case there is a shortage!
Personally I look forward to my Sinday when I do have some chocolate etc. but I still don't go overboard. Please only give up your treat day if you absolutely have to as we all need respite!
Have a look at My Fitness Pal where you can enter everything you eat and drink and it calculates how many calories and it will tell you if you are not eating enough!
Good luck - hang in there with us flowersflowersflowers
