On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

I don’t actually eat breakfast just have a couple of cups of coffee and may have a small tin of baked beans and some granary bread for lunch. My main meal is after work which is not good because I don’t finish work till 8 pm and probably don’t eat till 9 pm but there’s not much I can do about that. I would really like to go on the 16/8 plan but because I don’t do breakfast and I work till eight I don’t think it’s sustainable for me but I am going to try and work out a fasting plan for myself, to do it properly I realise I must cut out my lattes in the morning and maybe just have a weak cup of tea with no sugar… oh and I put on a quarter of a pound this week which I wasn’t expecting at all🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I find evenings difficult too. I can be totally in it all day then I sit down in the evening to watch TV and straight away I’m fancying a snack or treat, I never really fancy fruit in an evening, maybe I should try that. Tonight I will sit and paint my nails while watching TV, I am also going to start crocheting again as that stops me getting up & down looking for snacks.
I think regular weighing is good, over Christmas I took the ‘ignorance is bliss’ attitude then had a massive shock when I finally weighed myself. Weighing in regularly helps keep you on track.

Day 1 of TRE - so far so good! Main meal at mid-day as usual. For tea at 4.45pm: fresh fruit salad, an apple, piece of Wensleydale and small piece of Christmas cake (Christmas cake now all gone). Looking forward to breakfast tomorrow at 8am. During the day I'm not really tempted by snacking and if I am I can resist it - but the evenings . . . .

Time restricted eating I think…

I ended up eating cheese late last night. Had to be up earlier than usual for my gym induction and, as often happens, couldn’t sleep because of it. Still can’t get into a routine. Going to start going to the gym properly tomorrow so hope that gives me my mojo back. I wish it was warmer: I’d go for more walks if it was. I am eating quite healthily; lots of salads and smoothies but still eating too much.

We celebrated my DDs 50th birthday on Saturday so I had to eat cake. I started cutting down yesterday. I know my hungry time is around lunchtime and I always eat too much of the wrong things. By dinnertime I don't need much but like to have plenty of veg with some fish or chicken and no potatoes. Thinking I may swap my main meal to lunchtime when I am hungry and later a small snack will be enough.

The wise saying says, breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper. Trouble us it’s the evenings when I sit down with the tv and suddenly chocolate comes to mind. Fruit (which I like) just doesn’t do it fir me.

AGAA4 Tue 10-Jan-23 10:31:24

My DD told me that if I don't eat any chocolate for two weeks I won't want it any more. Not sure 🤔

It does work. I certainly don’t want it as much, but then, if I have one piece, I want chocolate out of a box, I crave more.

I have gone back to SW (only a pound and half this week) but I have been hungry mainly because the rain is stopping me golfing, gardening etc. definitely keeping busy with something is the answer to stopping snacking. I am dying for a glass of wine but daren't. Once the bottles open its gone that's my willpower gone with it. I think the two week no chocolate thing works and it works on other sweet things as taste buds 'forget' it in a way.

AGAA4 Tue 10-Jan-23 11:34:36

I will try the two weeks of no chocolate as it is my downfall.

I started Nutracheck , calorie counting diet last week. Only lost 1lb at first weigh in , but figured that would be 26lb by June - Happy at that !
Then yesterday at work , I ate way over my 1400 calorie allowance. Was really upset with myself .
However stood on scales this morning ( although I don't like weighing midweek) and weight is the same . Fingers crossed I have " got away with it "
Going a decent walk today to make sure!

silverlining48 Wed 11-Jan-23 09:48:51

Big Bertha well done on a pound and an important half. It’s better slower and steadier.
I have been the same all week and am pleased not to have gone up.

Shinamae Wed 11-Jan-23 10:01:06

I had five teeth extracted yesterday and a denture fitted so my eating is certainly curtailed for a few days!! I agree about not having sweet stuff and you don’t want it after a few week, I have done this and it definitely works for me. Like I’ve said before Saint Agur cheese is my downfall I can’t even have that now because I can’t have crusty bread for a few days so have made a big vegetable stew….

silverlining48 Wed 11-Jan-23 13:23:35

Goodness Shinamae 5 teeth in one go sounds dreadful. I probably need just one out tomorrow and not looking forward to it one bit. Well done fir being so brave and enjoy your soup. flowers

It was because I had a bridge that was over 12 years old and failing and when they removed it they found three of the teeth underneath were decayed so it had to be done. Still a bit sore but not too bad…

EllieRose Thu 12-Jan-23 19:03:26

Weighed myself on Wednesday morning and I was surprised to find I had lost 3lbs. I hope yesterday's lunch out with friends didn't do any damage! I almost always feel that I need something sweet after eating my main meal of the day but am managing to resist most days. The current wet weather isn't encouraging extra exercise either!

MayBee70 Thu 12-Jan-23 19:59:18

I’m still not back on track. This happens to me every January. I don’t overeat at Christmas but seem to be permanently hungry in January.

silverlining48 Fri 13-Jan-23 16:13:17

By some miracle I have lost the 3 lb I gained last week.
Heres to next week. smile

Shinamae Sat 14-Jan-23 23:29:27

Quite looking forward to my weekly weigh in tomorrow morning as because of having five teeth extracted and a denture fitted. I have hardly been able to eat anything since Tuesday.!!… well, I have some stuff like soup and yoghurt, I will be bitterly disappointed if I haven’t lost..😩

Shinamae Sun 15-Jan-23 09:42:42

Lost just over 4lbs!…🤗

fourormore Sun 15-Jan-23 11:11:26

A loss of just over 4lb is brilliant Shinamae but that is one really drastic way of losing weight! Sadly, when you resume 'normal' life it may be difficult to lose more for a while but hopefully you may be able to keep it off! I really hope you are feeling better as anything in the head/mouth/ears etc. is horrible.
A minor miracle has occurred here too as I have lost just under 2lb this week which is great. It nudges me just (only just but ...) below 13 stone again. If I can stay below 13stone I'll be happy and hopefully it will gradually drop slowly as I would love to be under 12 stone sometime in this century!
Good luck everyone as we carry on trying! Newbies take note - we will support you in the downs and ups!!! We all stand together! Remember we are not overweight - we are just under-tall !!! I should be 9ft 6" grin

I did well for a week and lost 4lb but a combination of pain, a new med that makes me feel soooo tired, and a very busy week knocked me right off the wagon. Am trying to climb back on but find afternoons very difficult, I’m desperate to comfort eat and feel too tired to get stuck into something distracting. Hopefully my body will get used to the meds and things will get easier. I don’t have much to lose but I’m told every pound will ease the pain in my knees.

NanKate Sun 15-Jan-23 12:46:34

Well down to all those who have lost weight. 👍👍👍

Sorry to hear about your discomfort teabagwoman. I think we all seem to have difficult times of day. I find 4.30 tricky, whilst I am beginning to think about starting to prepare supper for 5.45. I sometimes take a few slurps of Kefir that seems to help.
