On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

Well done whiff, that’s a good loss. Saw clusters of snowdrops at the churchyard Sunday and daffodils budding , spring will soon be upon us 😀.
Stayed the same again this week. I really should be losing but I can’t say I’ve been putting too much effort in. I need to give myself a good talking to.

Have a good week all.

It's swings and roundabouts with eating less for life. Last week was a win who knows what the scale gods will say on Sunday.

Went to my exercise class yesterday I think she is trying to kill us. It's mainly sitting down exercises but even those are hard. She had us walking on our toes in a circle holding on to chairs both ways then on our heels. We are aged mid 50's to 80's. But I love it. At least this week nothing hurts. Apart from my normal aches and pains. Just glad I found a new class. Getting to know new people is fun.😊

CocoPops Tue 24-Jan-23 17:28:36

Yes, I agree Whiff. It is fun to start a new class and meet new people. I joined a Monday osteofit class and a Friday yoga class recently. Both classes are for the over 55s and only 1 hour but nevertheless a good workout and I like the structure they give to my week.

Whiff Fri 27-Jan-23 06:45:51

CocoPops I like routine so now I know 2 days a week are booked . Monday exercise class a hour and Thursday craft group 2 hours . That way I can plan what I want to do round those days. Also gives me something to look forward to every week.

What is osteofit? I haven't heard of that .

CocoPops Fri 27-Jan-23 07:41:16

Whiff Osteofit classes here are run by physiotherapy trained and certified osteofit instructors and designed to improve strength, balance and function especially for people with osteopenia and osteoporosis and a good workout for my ageing joints.

Just back from
A couple of days away so am up 3 lbs, to be expected, but am back on course and hope to shift it by next week.
Night all

NanKate Sat 28-Jan-23 23:17:17

Keep going silverlining 👍

I went to the theatre tonight and had a magnum on a stick 🤪

Whiff Sun 29-Jan-23 09:36:36

CocoPops glad the classes are helping your joints. That's why I wanted to join another sit fit group. Need to get my strength and mobility back .

Sliverlining glad you had a good time away. Nice to have a treat. Like us all you don't give up and any gains is just a blip.

NanKate hope you enjoyed yourself . Every time I ate a magnum I ended up covered in chocolate pieces so haven't had one in years.

Stayed the same this week which is good . My fat less tea bread went down well . I had made it Tuesday so it was sticky when I cut it so wrapped the slices individually in cling film. Had requests for it again. I bake every 2 weeks for craft group . So will make another one to take but also make some biscuits of some sort.

Have a good week everyone.

Good to see some of us treating ourselves a bit - we have all had a really rough few years and as long as we stay sensible we need to treat ourselves occasionally.
After a reasonably good week I have lost a pound so I'm happy with that. I just want spring to come so that walks are more inviting!

We had a few really wet days when no one other than fish would venture out smile but this last week has been drier and very cold - I can cope with cold so that's been fine!

Roll on spring - well done all who have lost but hugs to those who are struggling. It's impossible to lose every single week but we will persevere!

Shirleyw Mon 30-Jan-23 04:07:19

Half a pound off , considering I haven’t made much of an effort this past week was pretty good.
Yes, Spring soon be here, getting dark later which is a good sign.
Oh I love a magnum, the one with raspberry is my fave 😀 .

NanKate Mon 30-Jan-23 09:42:45

It could be another year before I have a Magnum again, but I really enjoyed it.

Back to the drawing board.

Whiff Tue 31-Jan-23 05:37:23

Shirley half pound is good. I consider quarter of a pound a win . It's amazing how little losses mount up. Funny with me is goes off in quarter or half a pound usually but always goes on in pounds 🤦.

Exercise class was fun we did circuit training 7 different exercises twice in pairs. Found at 64 I am the youngest in the class the oldest is 90. Apart from one every one enjoyed the class and would do it again . But she didn't want to do it from the start. Couldn't help myself and said new things are always scarry just try it to which she pulled a face. She's fitter than me as she rides her bike everywhere. I love trying new things we are never to old to have a go at anything. If I can't do it at least I know I have tired.

Think doing new things keeps our minds active and that's just as important as our bodies. After looking after my mom with dementia and what it turned her into I am doing everything I can to keep my mind active. I don't want my daughter to go through what I did. Not that I would let her look after me. As I didn't realise how much it came close to destroying me.

Eating less for life does keep my mind active as I count calories and have memorised how many cals per gram lots of foods are. Mainly because I eat the same foods. Other forms of dieting keeps your mind active especially if there are set rules to follow. So all round loosing weight is good for mind and body well that's my take on it. Take care pears .

Hi all, I hope your week has started well. I have been away on a mystery weekend which was very enjoyable. Mainly around West Yorkshire & East Lancs, on the last day we ended up in Brontë Country and had a lovely walk around Haworth and the parsonage. As you can guess I haven’t stuck to any diet plan at all, lots of nice meals, coffees out and a few glasses of beer or wine and a tray of chips from the lovely little chippy in Haworth, plus lots of sweets being passed around on the coach. I cannot face the scales this week (I know I’m a coward) so will try and pull things back before weighing in. I’m seriously considering returning to SW, even if only for the formal weigh in. I also think having my progress recorded & written down by a third party might help me, although I don’t really want to have to start paying out the £5 plus every week again it may be just what I need.
I like the sound of your exercise class Whiff doing something different is certainly good for our body and soul. I bet you thoroughly enjoyed that Magnum at the theatre Nankate
There’s a bitterly cold wind blowing here today but lovely blue skies & sunshine. I do seem to feel much hungrier in the cold weather but we are almost through January so spring is creeping closer thank goodness. It’s easier to hide the extra pounds under winter layers. Have a good positive week all.

SarahMac your holiday sounded great.

Someone else has my philosophy on eating. 😀

NanKate Thu 02-Feb-23 11:22:49

Sorry it is sideways and the words are blurred !

Here goes, Says Garfield.

What’s the key to a successful diet
Portion control
Just one portion of food a day.

NanKate Thu 02-Feb-23 11:24:05

SachaMac not SarahMac. It’s my age. 🤪

SachaMac Thu 02-Feb-23 22:56:51

smile I’ve just had to have reading glasses Nankate it’s definitely an age thing. Now I just have to find them!

Love the philosophy of the Garfield comic strip.

I really feel like giving up lost 4lb 3 weeks ago lost nothing since.. have to say I’m getting a bit fed up and I think I’m 70 next week. What’s the point and I’m not that overweight just about a stone and that’s the hardest to get rid of I know. Maybe I should just sit down and give my head a wobble. 🫣

TillyTrotter Fri 03-Feb-23 16:41:58

The past month has been like that for me too Shinamae.
I am sort of ‘stuck’ but will keep eating same amount of calories and hopefully the pounds will start moving again. It seems cruel that the last stone is the hardest to get rid of.

Shinamae Fri 03-Feb-23 19:05:49

I do want to start doing some sort of exercise, either yoga or Pilates and hoping to start that on my actual birthday along with more walking ..🤷‍♀️

NanKate Fri 03-Feb-23 20:01:56

If ever I feel like giving up, I know I will over indulge and things get worse and I put on more weight and I get more depressed.

Having said that all of us here on this thread have a choice. I like the support I get here from all the Apples and Pears.

Doodledog Fri 03-Feb-23 22:47:40

I haven't posted since I said I'd join in, as I have been embarrassingly bad at sensible eating. I finished the Christmas chocolate, which was the plan before starting, but have eaten biscuits and ice cream since then, and not in small amounts.

I do feel depressed about it, and will try to do better from now on.

silverlining48 Fri 03-Feb-23 23:05:08

I must try harder too Doodle. The couple of pounds I had lost have both returned, uninvited and unwanted . I am NOT happy

SachaMac Fri 03-Feb-23 23:05:46

Don’t worry Doodledog you’re not alone, I’m struggling to stop mindless eating in an evening. I buy treats for my GC and then get tempted. My clothes are feeling much tighter and that really upsets me as I did so well last year. I know I can do it if I can get into the right mindset. I think when it’s cold and dark you want more comfort food but spring is coming and I don’t want to pile on even more pounds and really regret it when it comes to holiday time.

Doodledog Fri 03-Feb-23 23:20:34

I think that once the incentive of Christmas is over, and the winter still stretches ahead, it's hard to look forward to the better weather, but summer clothes are so unforgiving, and I don't want to be wearing tents when the sun comes out.

I wish I didn't have such a sweet tooth.
