How often do you weigh yourself?

I do most mornings just to keep tabs, I don’t think I’d call myself obsessive and I don’t stress out if it’s gone up, it just keeps me on the straight and narrow.

Whatever works for you is the way to go.
I find that my problem isn’t the weight…. It’s the distribution!
Because of the nature of my job I have seen lots of naked bodies and learnt early on that even thin people have saggy bits.

Hardly ever, but am not overweight in any case. Our last scales stopped working and we never bothered to replace them.
It’s not good to be obsessed with weight.

Every day as instructed by my cardiologist- if I gain more than 3lb in 48 hours then I have to notify my GP. as it’s an indication of fluid building up again. If ignored it starts backlogs into my lungs 🤷🏼‍♀️
It’s no big deal, only takes a few seconds and is reassuring to me.

My thin Mum moans about her saggy wrinkly places, so you’re right.
My Nan who was stout all her life had very few wrinkles and a lovely ‘filled out’ face which made her look younger.

Hardly weigh myself - weighing yourself every morning is a bit obsessive, unless your Doctor has asked you to.

mumofmadboys Thu 27-Jun-24 09:08:19

I weigh myself every day and I am a doctor! If my weight goes up I try and eat a bit less or up my exercise. It works for me. I aim to keep under 9 and a half stone but I'm only short!

silverlining48 Thu 27-Jun-24 09:17:16

No it’s not good to be obsessed with weight and if lucky enough to be naturally slim then not even necessary perhaps. I have slim friends who eat things I never would yet they remain slim. A blessing for them.
In the past I have put on half a stone in a week, without overeating excessively. We are all different.

As others have said, weighing helps to focus and helps avoid weight creeping up , which it can do very quickly, but always takes a long time to shift.

Every Tuesday morning start naked in the kitchen….🤓

Mumofmadboys I am short too, you sound perfect to me. 9 stone is a dream, 10 woukd be brilliant , 11 acceptable….i have a long way to go. smile

Oh silver....I hear you!!!

Never there is no point I keep fit being active each and every day I eat sensibly and don't over indulge. However my waistline has increased gradually over the years. Going on the scales is a no for me.

Purplepixie Thu 27-Jun-24 09:46:08

Hardly ever because they lie! I feel slim but the scales say FAT!

Farzanah Thu 27-Jun-24 09:50:05

A few years ago I was told I was prediabetic which gave me a wake up call. I didn’t diet but cut down on carbs, especially bread and potatoes. I lost a bit of weight, about 1 stone but wasn’t v over weight, just top end of normal.

I have never regained that weight, and have not been in the prediabetic zone since. Weighing is now part of my daily routine when I clean my teeth, because I am aware how weight can creep on unawares.

I think if you can just lose 10% of body weight it makes a difference to health.

Scales depress me, so I didn't replace them when they broke.

silverlining48 Thu 27-Jun-24 09:54:48

My aim is to reduce my bmi by 2, then I would be FAT or more politely, overweight, instead of obese. Happy days!

Kate1949 Thu 27-Jun-24 10:00:47

Every day like the OP. I am not overweight and my BMI is 23. However, I have blubber around my stomach and middle which I don't want to get any bigger. If I have a bad day food wise, I try to have a good day the next. It keeps my weight reasonable, although I'd love to be slimmer. I find that this way keeps my weight from going up and up.

Farzanah Thu 27-Jun-24 10:01:28

That doesn’t sound too bad silverlining. I didn’t diet but found its best to readjust eating habits because it’s well documented that diets don’t work, at least not in the long term.

TillyTrotter Thu 27-Jun-24 10:09:22

Every 2-3 weeks. The kilos/pounds can creep up on me.
It all goes round my midriff and thighs and it’s not a look I like so am always trying to keep my weight down.
I am on the cusp of 11 stones and would like to be 10.

SporeRB Thu 27-Jun-24 15:03:09

Right now, every other day since I am currently on a low calorie diet (again!).

So far, I have lost 2kg roughly 4.5lbs over three weeks so I am very pleased. I still have a long way to go to reach a healthy bmi. I am only size 10, the problem is I am short.

Norah Thu 27-Jun-24 15:11:29

Every morning when we get out of bed.

I attempt to stay on the straight and narrow, seems to work.

Farzanah Thu 27-Jun-24 16:00:34

Zoe.com (Tim Spector) is great for food information, even if you don’t use their app or follow their programme.
They give informed up to date information about healthy eating for weight loss, and why calorie counting doesn’t work long term.

Happygirl79 Thu 27-Jun-24 17:07:05

Once a week.

Labradora Thu 27-Jun-24 17:08:52

Once a month on the 1st of the month.
Gallbladder disease gifted me a 3 stone weight loss in 2020
(2 stone of it necessary). I have returned to a comfortable weight , healthier than before and want to keep it that way if Poss.
Every day weighing seems a little obsessive to me also (I speak as an ex- teen anorectic) Your weight can fluctuate throughout the day. But hey , whatever gets you through the night.
Don't spiral into excess if you can avoid. We'll all lose plenty of weight after our deaths!!!!!

Kim19 Thu 27-Jun-24 17:22:55

My scales are right beside shower and I automatically step on each morning. Obsessive? Not at all (strange thinking!) but certainly interested. Not worried about an extra lb or two. Invariably comes back off in a few days.

SporeRB Thu 27-Jun-24 18:00:04

Sorry, I meant to say I am on a low carb diet, not low calorie diet. Limit the amount of white carb - bread, potato, rice, pasta.
