Young women's Tatoos

Yesterday whilst out shopping I noticed an attractive young woman with heavily tattooed arms, she also had some sort of flower design going up her neck, it crossed my mind that it seemed a shame to in my mind disfigure herself in this way, but her choice nothing to do with me, then I started thinking what is going to happen when these young women become old women like me, skin gone a bit wrinkly and flabby, will they then become depressed and want the tatoos removed? If so is this going to the next great strain on NHS resources? Just a thought what do others Gransnetters think?

I am not keen , some are much nicer than others and they are almost the norm now , so I don't think it will be a problem for most people . I hate my ageing skin without a tattoo lol

I don't like tattoos and I don't think they are a good look on men or women. However it's a matter of personal choice so I leave it at that.

I suppose a small one somewhere is ok but can’t understand why anyone would want to disfigure their body in this way, horrendous !
If I was an employer it would def put me off.
Thank goodness my kids don’t have any ,I am a,ready trying to put my young grand children off.
Hope the trend ends soon.

My sister is invited to a wedding where no rings will be exchanged. Instead a tattooist is attending to tattoo them on in front of all the guests. Romantic or what!!

Yes you're being unreasonable. Not your body. Not your concern. Plus I'm not aware that the NHS do tattoo removal!

How about this one

Nanny123 Thu 23-May-19 10:14:40

I’m not a fan of tattoos

I hate them, but to each their own. I have one daughter who already has several and intends to have more, but her sister, like me hates them. My son has one, like pp, done when he was 16. I would have reported the tattoo studio, but he also kept it covered up for nearly a year! I was furious, especially as he had it done as a bet!!!

There's no tattoo removing going on in the NHS.

Your concern about resources is safe.

I really find tattoos repulsive and piercings, apart from ears. Not pearl-clutching and I couldn't care less what they'll look like when the wearers are older. It's now I don't like them.

I love tattoos, I think they look amazing (some designs nicer than others!), and they can look just as amazing on older people. Why should older people have to stop living just because their skin isnt as stretchy any more?!

Everyone is different, live and let live. Why let someone else's life choices bother you, and why criticise them for it?
Its nothing to do with anyone else.

And you cant have tattoos removed under the NHS, this doesnt happen! If you want a tattoo removed you pay for it yourself.

To be honest this not liking tattoos is rather old fashioned view point, they are socially acceptable now. Also why does all the criticism seem to be aimed at females? Sexism much?!

Personally I find criticising other people for the way they choose to look far more unattractive than someone having a tattoo. Whats on the inside of a person is far more important than how they look.

I don’t like tattoos and don’t have any, but each to his/her own. I was pleased that none of my three children chose to have a tattoo, although my lovely daughter in law has a couple of small ones. It’s a personal choice, just like the clothes we wear, or where we choose to go on holiday.

I foresee lots of fun in retirement homes in the future with everyone playing "Guess the tattoo" grin

sue01 Thu 23-May-19 10:34:36

I'm old and wrinkly and under the impression I look good.
This is entirely due to poor eyesight.

Did think about having a tattoo on my bottom with an arrow that said This Way Up ...

but the blood thinners I take rule it out !!

My eldest daughter has had several tattoos and although I didn’t approve at the time, I do now, quite like them. They aren’t colourful just done in brown ink. She is tall and slim and most likely will stay that way.
However, her late father will be turning in his grave. We were both in the Navy and Chris absolutely detested ratios!!

I loathe and despise tattoos - i too have at times seen beautiful women at the races or in a restaurant and think - how blessed she is with her youth and lovely looks - then she turns around and i see a snake up her back or other such horrible markings which am aware are permanent. I am 71 so a different generation, which i think has a lot to do with it. In my day they were popular with sailors who on their return would hide them on their arms aware how horrid they look, but in the spur of the moment when away with their mates - they just got a bit carried away. I think they are tacky and cheap looking and was shocked when i saw what David Beckham has done to himself. But as my son says - to each his own.

sarahellenwhitney Thu 23-May-19 10:49:27

Isn't beauty in the eye of the beholder? I look at much going on 21C , numerous body piercings one of them. but it is their choice so none of my business.

Isabel46 Thu 23-May-19 10:50:42

I totally agree with the writer of the first message here. I have always felt that tattooing is a form of self-harm and abuse. I also agree that these young tattoos will look terrible on a wrinkly skin. Some time ago I saw on Facebook a really beautiful bride with lovely hair and a gorgeous dress for her big day - but she had her arms totally covered with tattoos. I commented upon her beauty but also wondered in my post whether she would regret these tattoos when she looked at her wedding photos in the future. The replies of derision came down on me like a ton of bricks! ............but I still think I am right!!!

Don't like tattoos, none of my family have them, thank goodness.
Couldn't care less what other people do!

madmum38 Thu 23-May-19 11:05:29

I have one at the top of each arm, a small butterfly and a Winnie the Pooh, don’t look half as bad as the sensor I wear.

My daughter has a small elephant on the side of her arm, she is autistic and gets very worried and scared but she looks or touched her elephant which she says shows strength and she feels better

stella1949 Thu 23-May-19 11:21:53

During my career I cared for many people with tattoos. Older skin doesn't make much difference to tattoos - they don't become particularly saggy or misshapen. And I've never known any older man or woman to say they regretted getting them.

stella1949 Thu 23-May-19 11:28:53

I can't complain about this one on DS arm !

Sheilasue Thu 23-May-19 11:39:26

My 18 year old gd has one on each hand on the upper side.
Very much like the Indian design. Just black but very well done.

Conni7 Thu 23-May-19 11:43:14

I blame David Becham!

MysticalUnicorn Thu 23-May-19 11:48:19

narrowboatman I love it!
I had my first tattoo in my 60s and it gives me pleasure every day.
