Wasted school time

This morning the BBC showed a large number of school children aged about 11 singing a song they had learnt to show their support for the football.
So many of these children will have lost months of schooling and have a lot of catching up to do before they break up for the summer holidays.
It smacks of indoctrination to me that nothing is regarded as more important than football. Not all children are sport fans including one of my grandsons who would have been bored and resentful if he was forced to take part in such a waste of time and effort.

Chardy

Because they start earlier, or have a 2x20 minute breaks but no lunch hour.
According to
^House of Commons BRIEFING PAPER
Number 07148, 24 March 2021
The School Day and Year
(England)^
The accepted norm in England is 25 hours for primary, 27.5 hrs secondary

Are you sure ? I thought the day was shorter because the teachers and their dreadful unions were idle layabouts who all lounged around at home during the pandemic lockdowns and with huge long holidays and massive salaries.

I've been teaching GD, aged 8, to sing The Quartermaster's Song. Not the version we used to sing on the school bus though!

My GCs think "AnyOld Iron?"is hilarious. It's replaced "Your Baby 'as gone down the plug'ole" as their favourite Granny song.
I was thinking about the indocrination ofchildren about football in schools. I know nothing about football and it was usually the children telling me about it. Children do have homes and they learn from their families and communities as much, or more, than they do their school.

Your Baby 'as gone down the plug'ole excellent trisher, I'd forgotten about that one so that's another for the repertoire! The Old Woman Who Swallowed A Fly is their current favourite.

I don't think Sweet Caroline is a particularly patriotic English song!

It’s nearer the end of the school term , children have a lot of fun usually doing plays etc , they have missed so much , missed their school friends when having to stay home, a lot will be school leavers who won’t be able to have the usual end of term activities, proms etc, My daughters are not allowed to go and attend the leaving assembly at school because of COVID rules,
So learning a football, song and having a bit of fun time , what’s wrong with that ,
