Smileless -- The difference is, you made an assumption about the Jedi faith and acted like it was a joke. That's the definition of mocking... Making fun/light out of something you don't understand/know about.

When I meet someone and they say they are a different faith, I often ask/say something like, "Wow... So you're a Jedi? What exactly does that entail?" (If I was a Christian for example) and that leaves the person feeling valued and if they wish to explain they can, without feeling judged.

I DO know about the Christian faith, as I was 'raised' in it, so pointing out what I find ridiculous about it is not mocking. It's my factual/actual experience.

"For 'good' Christians, I guess if they pray to God for forgiveness they don't actually have to ask forgiveness from the actual living person they "wronged". To have great faith in Christianity must be VERY "comforting" for some." I've met this type of person and it must be VERY comforting/convenient to feel absolved by someone/something (God) without actually involving the wronged party or actually admitting wrong-doing or being held accountable or making amends or ending the bad behavior etc. But that's just My experience...

No, I didn't act like it was a joke HolyHannah I thought it was, when you posted you're a Jedi I thought you were joking because I didn't know there was a Jedi religion.

If you choose not to accept that so you can continue posting about how your faith has been mocked, so be it.

Do you think that makes Holyhannah feel any less mocked when you do not apologise and just throw back an accusation as if that justifies your behaviour?

HolyHannah I can see why you felt mocked by the joke, within the context that being a Jedi is a genuine belief system for you.

I can also see that the intention of the joke was not to mock a genuine belief system, within the context of not knowing there is a genuine Jedi religion (is that the right phrase?)

When you said it originally I actually thought it was a joke because I didn't know that a Jedi religion exists, although I didn't comment at all.

Now that you have confirmed that there really is a Jedi religion I am going to spend a bit of time finding out more about it. You have sparked my interest as I had no idea.

Starblaze -- It's funny that there is always an excuse. My 'mom' would laugh at and mock my interests and everything else and then when she saw how that bothered me she would say, "I had no idea that was important to you..."

Yes, like that somehow makes what she said or did okay and me 'wrong'.

Something like, "I'm sorry Hannah. I thought you were joking about liking insert. I had no idea 'that' was a thing. Why don't you tell me more about it?"

Madgran -- Some call to be Jedi a religion. I tend to consider it a faith/lifestyle. We don't exactly have worship centers or clergy... Although some would argue that Skywalker Ranch is Mecca but I'm not that hardcore. And no, we don't have retreats were Yoda comes and lectures...

No, Chrwbacca I'm not her mother but I am an adult and if you and Smileless want to be treated like an adult, you need to act like one.

Says the person who told another poster that they "hadn't had any formal education" and when asked, repeatedly to apologise, refused to do so!

You're subsequent response, when asked for an apology for that comment, was dismissive and invalidating.

Nonnie repeatedly asked me what my education on the subject was and dismissed my answer because I wouldn't tell her my job title.

I probably apologise on the estrangement threads the most.

Some absolutely never.

None of which has any relation to the fact that Holyhannah is owed an apology.

Then that's for HolyHannah to sort out isn't it? Or does she need you to sort it out for her?

I don't know Chewbacca is there any particular reason you are speaking for Smileless except the obvious one? Or the fact that Smileless speaks for absolutely every other estranged parent and gets it wrong half the time?

If you're seeing hypocrisy it's probably because you're standing in front of a mirror.

Well said and thank you. I am very at peace with my Jedi status... A Jedi worries not on the judgement of others because it is a faith of "strength from within".

Also and obviously I do have to accept/entertain a certain amount of skepticism and questioning from people not familiar with the concept that Jediism IS an 'actual thing' for some people.

And I and my faith can stand up to that... As I say, look it up/research what it means to be Jedi. Tell Me there is 'nothing' to my faith...

Chewbacca -- While the Jedi religion was founded due to the movies, We aren't worshiping the movies or characters.

Throwing movie lines at me as if it pertains to my faith is just gross, misinformed and insulting.

That particular quote more so, as if it implies I don't know much about anything.

"The Jedi religion is an inspiration and a way of life for many people throughout the world who take on the mantle of Jedi. Jedi apply the principles, ideals, philosophies and teachings of Jediism in a practical manner within their lives. Real Jedi do not worship George Lucas or Star Wars or anything of the sort."

They are guardians of justice and peace- And my personal take, perhaps born that way-
