We're doing some research again on advertising and how over 50s are misrepresented (if they're featured at all).
Have you seen any particularly bad adverts recently? Or any good ones? Thanks smile

I hate all the adverts that are targeted at us people of a certain age.

When I was living in Australia I refused to switch the TV on during the day. We were continually bombarded with advertising for the over 50’s, funeral plan, car insurance, house insurance, over 50’s villages, that awful feet and leg massage machine, equity release and numerous funeral companies it was so morbid and ageing smile. We have a way to go to catch up over here.

Ooh Phoenix!

None of them make me mad, but I don’t like them. Too repetitive and mostly plugging the same things. Time to make a cuppa and/or go to the loo when the adverts are on.

I've just seen one for a vaginal moisturiser for post menopausal women!!!!!
Apparently 95% of women trust this product according to a survey.
And the number of women surveyed was 49. hmm

lizzypopbottle Wed 05-Jun-19 21:20:15

Wobbles 95% of 49 women is 46.55 so the odd half a woman is enjoying a moist vagina along with the 46 whole women! ???

I get a bit steamed up if I see the Tombola (bingo app) advert with all those people having a lovely, sociable time. The reality is that they are all hunched over their phones at home losing money!

I just hate that nothing is private anymore. The girl wearing tampax riding her bike with a camera a foot off her backside. The dopey guy and his lover floating around the house after a good night on the viagra. I also hate that vaginal moisturiser ad [Wobbles] Jenny Éclair does a similar cringy one. Why is all of this personal stuff up for grabs these days? Crikey I'm getting old sad

Agree completely, some things should stay private.

I get very angry with the gambling adverts. They always show good looking people with great dentistry, great clothes, loving life and spending time with a great laughing group of close friends. This is now how your life will be if you sign up, the reality, as we have heard many times, is solitary addictive behaviour often leading to financial ruin. These adverts are not only annoying and untrue, they are irresponsible. I would like to see an end to online gambling full stop. As for other adverts, we often record programmes which are on Ch4 or ITV for that very reason, we can then zap through the adverts!

tinaf1 Thu 06-Jun-19 15:27:02

Agree GillT57 also think the many celebrities endorsing these ads need to take along hard look at themselves

GrannyIris5 Thu 06-Jun-19 15:53:54

Looks like we agree on the ones we don’t like.
The % thing annoys me. If it’s people out of 100 it doesn’t make sense to me.

KatyK Thu 06-Jun-19 16:03:26

I agree re all the funeral ones, especially the 'its June dad' one.

chickkygran Thu 06-Jun-19 16:56:50

Every advert makes me mad!

M0nica Thu 06-Jun-19 17:50:37

I have to all intents and purposes given up watching tv. Just one hour a week when I do the ironing. It means I do not have to watch any adverts, annoying or not.

hallgreenmiss Thu 06-Jun-19 19:05:10

The man in The Dreamies Treats advert enticing his neighbours' cats to impress his lady friend is seriously creepy.

Loislovesstewie Thu 06-Jun-19 19:29:27

That flipping peloton advert drives me mad! No, I am not stronger than I know, neither do I want to be sold a lifestyle, riding a bike going nowhere isn't going to buy me a loft apartment and when did the word saddle become a verb? Or an instruction? I must be getting old because I just want to punch them all.

The ad for garden furniture that says it is so good you can wear it - which they do - is a ridiculous concept.

LullyDully Thu 06-Jun-19 19:40:11

Also I loathe the American teeth ads dubbed with impossible English accents. The ghastly woman for example who knows how to care for her body but not her teeth. As if.

LullyDully Thu 06-Jun-19 19:44:46

(I do like the little girl who" sings"on the AA advert and the Specsavers ones.)you

I only watch tv from about 7.30 pm to 10 pm ish, so I'm spared many of the ads mentioned (funeral plans etc) that seem to be mostly on daytime tv.

The ones in the evening are bad enough, especially as previously mentioned what seems to be the current plethora of ones for toothbrushes and toothpaste!

Not keen on the Tena ones either, especially the pants ones.

Lady, if you think those look "pretty" you are delusional. I have this image of her dating someone, getting to the erm, you know, sort of stage, used to be called "heavy petting" in the U.S and her chap wondering what on earth...........

Plus, how do you dispose of them?

7 pairs of those a week will impact on your household waste.

soop Fri 07-Jun-19 14:56:50

That irritating Pantene woman.

Mossfarr Sun 30-Jun-19 20:13:28

I really dislike the advert where 'Scott' comes home early and finds his wife in bed with the red m&m figure who says - "Now the biting makes sense" What on earth is that about?

I know it isn't aimed at the 'over 50s' but it really makes me cringe.

I also hate the tena pants advert and have been known to shout "oh no they're not" when she says her pants are pretty. They are revolting.

And yes funeral plans, sun life etc etc

Stella14 Sun 30-Jun-19 22:25:10

The ridiculous women saying that with her disposable incontinance pants, she feels ‘protacted’. The word is ‘protected’, however posh you are!

Ads are made to encourage people to do something, they hope have an effect on behaviour. People associate with them, on their attitudes and speech including soaps and sit coms. Children also watch them and think the same therefore I don't like at all rude/cheeky children, the last one showing a child kicking his father because of a car, really is there need for this disrespect.

vena11 Fri 05-Jul-19 09:58:12

I always mute the adverts.
