This shouldn’t be a blame game or finger pointing at a particular demographic, or feeling smug because we recycle our yoghurt pots and grow our own veg. The U.K. as a whole, along with everywhere else, is not doing enough to combat climate change. We are one of the most nature depleted countries on the planet, with fewer and fewer insects, birds and mammals. We have allowed our waterways to become open sewers, single use plastics are almost unavoidable, and piles of it is everywhere. Government action is needed it’s not enough to reuse our shopping bags, we need to have some definite action - whether it is a crackdown on water companies or bring them into public ownership, drastically reduce the use of unnecessary single use plastics - a deposit scheme or banning their use altogether. Innovative public transport schemes - more investment and cheaper fares - or even free use extended, Forget that we have the god given right to drive or fly anywhere we want at all times, invest more in renewable energy, insist on proper insulation in new builds etc etc . Yes we are doing some of these , but it’s piecemeal and uncoordinated. Yes, individual behaviour is important whatever your age, but what XR and other environmental groups are calling for is more government action and not just sitting on our hands.
