Tonight we had Chicken Kiev with Lyonnaise potatoes. I have to admit the CK was not made by me but a local butcher whose ready meals are really, really good but I did make the Lyonnaise potatoes myself and I know I shouldn`t blow my own trumpet but it was a good meal

Salmon steaks with herby roast veg and saute potatoes. It seemed to involve more oil and butter than I'd hoped. smile Lots of lovely raspberries and strawberries from the allotment to follow, with ice cream.

Marmight Tue 08-Jul-14 18:36:57

Salad nicoise followed by fig yoghurt

I too need a lie down Sparkygran just spent two days withour two GSs, three year old never stops asking why and 1year old has been sick on me and sneezed on me about 20 times. I am sure we will get the dreaded lurgie !

My DinL has cooked us a casserole, excellent. Uncork that bottle quickly. grin

Nigella's belly pork slices with chili and fennel seeds, baked potatoes and salad. Lovely!!

papaoscar Tue 08-Jul-14 20:18:06

A quickie tonight - pre-cooked lincs sausages and new potatoes in a pot of tomato/basil sauce, with a can of sugar-free ginger beer on the side. Not bad!

NanKate Tue 08-Jul-14 22:25:01

Tell me honestly PapaO is the sugar free ginger beer acceptable ? I love ginger beer but the thought of a sugar free one does not appeal

rosequartz Tue 08-Jul-14 22:53:57

NanKate, had a Fenteman's ginger beer (with a dash of lime) the other day and it was very hot! Gingery I mean, not warm. Lovely. But tried Bundaberg and it was not gingery at all, I was disappointed.

NanKate Wed 09-Jul-14 06:47:32

Thanks Rose for the recommendation. Will try some Fenteman's.

Cold home baked ham and home cooked beetroot with tomatoes and crusty tomato and chilli bread. That was one good buy that ham it`s lasted all week and still going strong

DS is here for tea. We are having chicken fajitas with mexican beans and a salad. DH has returned from visiting DGC in Scotland so there are three of us tonight. I wonder if I'LL should open some wine.

kittylester Wed 09-Jul-14 17:36:20

Home made pork and mozzarella burgers, (very) garlic wedges and coleslaw.

Hilda - I would because we are wine grin

grannyactivist Wed 09-Jul-14 17:51:17

Okay - once again the feeding of the five thousand: Pizza (x3 large and NOT home-made this time), pesto pasta, potato salad, coleslaw, mixed salad. Plain vanilla ice cream with (home grown) berries to follow.
My visitors (from Slovakia) raved over a simple summer pudding a couple of nights ago.
More interesting than dinner is what they eat for breakfast though. shock Yesterday we were only seven for breakfast and my guests - having been told to help themselves - prepared it. They then proceeded to eat, in the following order: Fresh fruit (appx 2lb mixed berries from the allotment, 6 apples, 2 mandarins, whole punnet of fresh apricots), cereals with milk and/or home-made yoghurt, one large wholemeal loaf (home-made) and one medium sized tiger loaf (bought) with an assortment of jams, spreads, nutella etc., ten boiled eggs, a whole packet of cheddar, packet of cheese (brought from Slovakia), one whole packet of honey roast ham, chopped spring onions(!!!), baby plum tomatoes and one and a half cucumbers. Oh - and one pot of coffee and one pot of green tea (and a cup of builder's tea for me). In all my life I have never known anyone with such prodigious appetites - and yet they're none of them overweight. hmm

kittylester Wed 09-Jul-14 18:03:29

Crikey, ga, shall we send food parcels?

vegasmags Wed 09-Jul-14 18:14:14

Good heavens ga - so your guests are not believers in the continental breakfast then? Sounds like they have completely cleaned out your fridge!

Dinner tonight for me is pasta with a tomato and veg sauce, followed by jelly and raspberries from the garden. Very virtuous because I had put on a pound at the weigh in this morning.

sparkygran Wed 09-Jul-14 18:16:17

NanKate Thu 10-Jul-14 07:10:41

Off for a week in the New Forest tomorrow so it is a case of finishing everything that is fresh in the fridge. 2 eggs, some tomatoes - I can see a fry up coming on. grin

vegasmags Thu 10-Jul-14 17:29:46

Tonight I'm having pork snitzel (sp?) - ie a pork chop bashed flat, egg and breadcrumbed and fried in Frylight. With that goes sauté spuds, green beans and a sort of apple sauce made with Bramley apple, Greek yogurt and mustard. Feeling hungry now, but first have to iron and rehang the bedroom curtains I chucked in the machine this morning in a fit of enthusiasm.

Tegan Thu 10-Jul-14 17:39:38

The potato wedges I cooked for my grandson because no one told me he wasn't coming here this afternoon confused....

Galen Thu 10-Jul-14 17:49:14

Low fat mozzarella with sliced tomato, drizzled with good olive oil from organic five hundred year old trees in the Tuscan hillsides. A little salt and black pepper and homemade bread.
