Apparently one in five Brits feel they couldn't survive without nuggets. I don't recall ever eating one! The one food I would not like to be without is cheese. What would yours be?

Eggs are amazing. So is most protein when an awful lot of everything else is on your banned list.

I would love to know who thought of putting Dextrose on frozen chips. What logic makes people do that? I can only think they are aiming to create chip addicts.

That puts the ordinary potato, in all its forms, on my necessary list.

I really dislike nuggets. I've bitten into one, never again

Never knowingly consumed a nugget and I have never bought them. As for both generations parents and children ate together whenever possible, they weren't bought for the. children either.

I cannot live without real bakers bread, real butter and CHEESE

I would definitely miss butter, and cream. As someone else said, you can live without anything if you have to, but I would rather not.

Could live without, but would miss smoked bacon for a bacon sandwich or barm. Not the healthiest, but yum!

Gougons are sophisticated fish fingers😁

Quite nicely, thank you. There are much better uses for chicken than turning it into nuggets.

What are nuggets? Are they like faggots? I don’t like them!

Don’t ever say this if you visit the US 😂

My DD’s love nuggets and prob eat them about three times a week. The secret they say, is to make sure they’re cooked, being chicken, but not overcooked. They should be golden crunchy and succulent.

I couldn’t live without eggs, cooked in so many ways, so versatile.

Oreo Mon 13-Nov-23 22:21:38

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?😄

Another who had Never had a nugget.
I would miss potato, eggs, fish and cooked red cabbage.

I’ve been a vegetarian most of my life and I cannot live without cheese. I tried being a vegan but the lure of a mature cheddar was too much. Apparently cheese is more addictive than cocaine for certain people. Whilst I’ve never tried the latter I’m definitely addicted to cheese!

nanna8 Mon 13-Nov-23 22:52:18

My great grandchildren like nuggets. I’ve only had them once and didn’t like them, I’d put them down there with fish fingers. Nasty and who knows what is really in them ? I couldn’t live without eggs and decent coffee. Chocolate too. I’ve tried to fight that last addiction but I am losing the fight.

Tinned tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, tomato juice- anything with tomatoes in it. With salt of course too!

I made a Ferraro Rocher cake once, about a year ago, at my grandson’s request. It cost an absolute fortune to make, but it was soooo delicious. I hate to think how many calories there were in a slice.

Don't like processed meat I eat only small amounts of cheese. I cannot imagine cooking without a bit of butter and lots of garlic.

I was flipping through quickly and thought this said can you live without maggots! On second thoughts perhaps I was right.

Nuggets are just a way of serving food and the name has nothing to do with the quality. It’s a bit like sausages or burgers - there is a huge difference between cheap mass produced ones and restaurant quality. I was going to suggest that those saying they don’t know what they are (really?) should call them goujons and see if that made a difference, but others got in first grin.

People get exercised about ‘vegetarian sausages’ or burgers too - but again the name is for the style or shape of the item, not the ingredients. Nuggets are perfect for children as they are small and can be picked up. They are good for people with small appetites, too - a bit like fish fingers, which again vary enormously from place to place or brand to brand.

Both are likely to be grim if they are 99p for a large bag, but home made or ‘premium’ ones are a perfectly acceptable way to serve chicken (or fish), IMO.

I wouldn’t like to give up cheese, or onions. A friend of mine can’t eat onions, and it massively restricts her diet, particularly when she’s eating out.

M0nica Tue 14-Nov-23 07:33:25

No, I have never eaten, or bought goujons of poultry either. I prefer meat that comes with gravy.

I prefer vegetarian burgers to those made with meat, or to be more precise, I prefer beanburgers.

RosiesMaw Tue 14-Nov-23 07:42:02

I can, I do.

Doodledog Tue 14-Nov-23 10:21:35

I can't say I'd miss them if I never saw them again, but I don't think there is anything intrinsically wrong with bite sized bits of battered chicken breast. Mechanically recovered and reconstituted chicken mixed with fillers is another matter, but both are 'nuggets'.

I didn't give them to my children as they were brought up vegetarian, but remember my son taking some at a party without my seeing (he was about 5) and he loved them grin.

Summed up perfectly, Doodledog! grin

I think that chicken nuggets are like fish fingers in that they are essential if you have Grandchildren. They vary in quality and some are definitely nicer than others with better quality Cod or Chicken breast.
Essential for me personally in no particular order is milk, butter, nice tea, citrus fruits ( no grapefruit 😔 sadly) jelly babies or any fruity chewy sweet, very squashy type licorice.
