28 / 11. Tuesday.

Sometimes, my husband and I enjoy having brunch during the week at home instead of a typical Menu del Día as we live in The Madrid Capital.
Eggs Benedict is quite versatile and can be prepared with either Smoked Salmon or Bacon or Ham. Eggs Florentine is quite a healthy alternative and French toast is always quite endearing.

Delila

In 1968 we had a delicious lunch in Casa Anita in Cadaques, Spain. Everyone had the same main dish, based on fish and tomato - there was no choice. Anita gave me extra, as I was pregnant! It must have been the Menú del Dia. I’ve always remembered the lovely happy atmosphere as we dined with the locals. We stayed in Cadaques for 5 weeks and often lunched at Casa Anita, always only one dish on the menu.

Delila,

Yes, the Madrid Capital is quite different than Cádiz or the other autonomous communities in Andalusia.

Cádiz, is an amazingly beautiful little city. The Hotel Parador was reformed completely approx 5 or 6 years ago.

Lentil soup, crusty rolls, vine tomatoes and Bledington Blue cheese from the Cotswolds, moreish! left by Christmas visitors, the last of our Christmas food. A sensible eating regime to start next week, always next week!

I had a Spanish neighbour from a couple of houses ago who first told me about the feast of the 3 Kings (Epiphany) and how that trounced Christmas Day in Spain. Personally I'd prefer a lower key Christmas as celebrated in European countries. The hoo ha that surrounds our most celebrated day and the never ending run up to it that starts in the summer does my head in.

I was in Cadiz a couple of summers ago, quite liked it but my number one city in Spain remains Cordoba.

I never want anything first thing, so it’s brunch more or less every day.
Just now it was 2 rashers of streaky bacon, well crisped up, one cold jacket potato (microwaved for the purpose) sliced and fried in just a film of oil, some mushrooms that needed using up, a fried egg and a couple of cherry tomatoes.

That lot will see me through until dinner.

First meal of the day, porridge, blueberries, chopped banana and stewed apple.
I too don’t eat first thing, unless staying in an hotel.

German Shepherd Mom,

The original recipe which I follow is from a culinary course at Le Cordon Bleu.

The ingredients are very similar to my maternal grandmother and mother´s quiche:

THE PASTRY IS:

200 Grams of flour
1 tsp. of salt
100 grams of French butter - room temperature
1 extra large egg lightly beaten

THE FILLING:

2 tablsps of Extra virgin olive oil 100 % Hojiblanca from Tarragona

100 ml. white wine
50 grams of French butter
250 grams of Spinach well drained (can use frozen)
a sprinkle of nutmeg shaved
200 ml. of cream
200 grams of young roquefort or other young blue cheese
100 grams of shallot or leek or spring onion
4 eggs lightly beaten

These are the ingredients.

.

I studied many years ago at Le Cordon Bleu in France.

I use their recipes all the time.

I am on desk top as my mobile dropped and it is not ready yet due to the holidays.

I cannot take photos with my 35mm.

Shall be purchasing a new mobile - I am in the process of pricing and deciding best route.
