Sometimes, my husband and I enjoy having brunch during the week at home instead of a typical Menu del Día as we live in The Madrid Capital.
Eggs Benedict is quite versatile and can be prepared with either Smoked Salmon or Bacon or Ham. Eggs Florentine is quite a healthy alternative and French toast is always quite endearing.

Today, we are going to have Lasagne Bolognese as our main course ..
Our starters are "amuses boüches" or appetisers that include:
White bean (northern or navy beans) hummus with sun dried tomato and basil served on Baguette Slices.
Roquefort drizzled with lavendar honey ..
A tiny tri color salad with cherry tomatoes & pomegrante seeds and home made vinaigrette ..
A lovely red wine from Bodega Muga - Haro, La Rioja called Prado Enea.
Dessert will be served at 18.00, and this is called " A Merienda" - when the pastry and a tea or café or hot chocolate is served. We will have a NO BAKE Cheesecake with a "simple ginger (no sugar - dietetic ) added to the biscuits bought & lemon biscuit crust" ..

Lovely fresh olive bread with cheeses and olives. Plus watermelon and a kiwi fruit.
For a healthier twist Eggs Florentine is a great choice while French toast adds a timeless sweetness

Chinese Won Ton Soup - first time I ever prepared it and served with Spring Rolls and Prawns Tempura.
Nice change of pace and fun to do something a bit different.

Wednesday.
Today was the 1st day of the 2024 Tourism & Travel Tradefair in the Madrid Capital.
With this in mind, lunch was on the premises of the Convention Centre .. Temperatures were a wonderful 17 degrees centig and blue blue skies and sunny sunny.
It was quite a feast for the senses and I was immersed in writing my notes for the article for their press relations. Had a marvelous tapa assortment including croquettes filled with codfish and calamari with a fabulous ali oli mayonnaise garlic dipping sauce and a glass of wine.

Saturday.
Today, we had a home made vegetable soup and the main course was seared rare sirlion on grill. And a lovely red wine called Prado Enea by Bodega Muga - La Rioja.

Today is a lunch consisting of chicken breast cutlets dipped in egg and garbanzo (chickpea) flour with herbs and spices, that include Provençal spices, Spanish paprika, salt, black peppercorns grinded and fresh parsley.
And a simple salad .. Baby Spinach Greens, tri color greens, cherry tomatoes, Kalmata olives, Ventresca albacore white tuna belly and anchovies with a vinaigrette & Modena Balsamic ..
Rosé Prosecco..

Today was a Boletus Mushroom Risotto for the main course.
The starter was a simple and small cherry tomato, Mozzarella di Buffala & Basil Salad - we call it a Caprese with Italian Aged Balsamic vinegar and Extra virgin olive oil.

Today, a late lunch was homemade meatloaf and baked potatoes .. A true comfort food. And a lovely bottle of Rioja Marques de Murrieta red 2018 Reserve.
My husband bought a strawberry Fraiser Tart home .. which we had approx 2 hours later with an Earl Grey ..
So we had quite a lovely lovely afternoon.

Today the main course is roast chicken prepared in oven, classic style.

The 5th of January 2024.
Today was a simple lunch for two at home. A favourite Pesto Rosso ( Red Sicilian Pesto ) and a gorgeous semolina pasta called " La Bianca Pasta " - Nastrini Egg Pasta which is similar to a Fettucine however, much lighter. This brand from Italia, does not add sugar to its products.
A simple salad served with it .. And a glass of Prosecco Rosé.
6th January
Tuesday ..
Working remote today and so .. the green lentils were soaked overnight and prepared in a pressure cooker with a wide variety of wonderful fresh veggies, leek, celery, carrots, turnips, red ripe tomatoes, fresh parsley, shallot, garlic and placed in the pressure cooker.
Turned out remarkably spectacular. So delicious .. And warming ..

I wonder if she means that she lives in the Capitol building in Madrid - presumably where she gets her 'Menu of the day'. It's quite a famous building so she may be assuming others would know of it. I may be wrong.
The Madrid Capital is the main part of the city and also the Capital of Spain.

Lunch today at home is:
Tom Kha Gai: A Thai chowder style soup with Lemon grass, coconut milk, chicken stock consomme, dried red chili pepper, lime juice, Thai fish sauce, ecological brown sugar and breast of chicken sliced in very fine strips.
Then the main shall be simple filet of chicken breast finely sliced and sautéed mushrooms ..
A glass of Prosecco Wine ..

Today the weather was a bit unpleasant, cloudy, overcast and drizzling. So we did not go out for lunch.
Made a delicious lunch however, very simple.
Tortellini filled with cheese and a quick home made tomato sauce ..
The starter was a Vichyssoise ..

10 / 02. Saturday.
This morning my husband and I, went to do the paperwork for my new Mobile Phone which was truly a necessity. My old mobile was on deathbed !
Now we are home and lunch is in the oven: Stuffed Red Bell Peppers with ground beef ( mince ) in a home made Bolognese Tomato Sauce for the main course served with crusty Chapata ( Cibatta type bread ) ..
1st course or starter: Since it quite a windy day and cold, though sunny, we enjoy a soup. So today is Parsnip & Carrot Soup prepared with: Whole Milk, Cream, onion, 500 grams of Parsnips peeled of course, 4 carrots medium sized peeled, vegetable stock strained, leek, shallot butter and 2 tsps of Dijon Mustard . Fresh parsley on top.

This morning we headed out for a simple Breakfast at our neighbourhood bar..
My husband had a French Omelette and pan tomaca, which is toasted baguette with Extra virgin olive oil and grated fresh red tomato. Café of course.
I had a Croissant filled with salad fixings and Café.
Tuesday ..
13th of February.
Lunch at home today shall be:
Bacalaó a tona en torta de millo which is: A Galician dish, consisting of pine nuts, raisins, onions, red bell peppers, garlic, laurel, Extra virgin Olive Oil and the fish is dipped into cream ( tona = nata ) and garbanzo flour. This cod fish is placed on a Torta de Millo which is corn flour and looks like a a crépe.
The vegetable of the day is Acelgas = Swiss chard. Par boiled and then sautéed in Extra virgin olive oil with garlic ..
Wine of the day: Chablis ..
