Why can't I cook any more?

Now that the kids are all grown up & it's (mostly, as DS27 still lives with us) me and DH for dinner, I'm trying to get back into cooking what I call 'real' food ie not just sausages and bolognese, which DH had taken over re responsibility for.

I just can't seem to get it right. I used to be able to cook. This evening I did salmon and burned the steamed veg (I forgot to put water under the steamer and it burnt, although once I'd realised and rescued it, the veg turned out OK.)

Other times I don't cook enough in terms of quantity or I cook a veg no one likes, or I just try a more adventurous recipe and he turns his nose up

Even roasts on a Sunday which has traditionally been my day, has turned into a pig. I used to be really proud of my yorkshire puds, but now they fail every week, in different ways!

What is going on? Is it a menopause thing and I'm not concentrating, or do I just keep practising until my cooking skills comes back?!

I am just fed up doing it. The only reason I do is I don’t like instant meals, now I batch bake 20 meals at a time and freeze.

Oh may I join the club? After 20000 meals assuming one a day for every year of married life bar hotel holidays I have no idea what to cook so I have a rota of sausages ,mince, lamb ,pork and chicken with fish on Friday ( I come from Liverpool) I have a very little space for a freezer and so I rely on shopping or Ocado or Waitrose delivery. And every thing I cook I am ashamed of. I used to be a good cook and enjoyed it.

I used to be a very good cook but suddenly 9 years ago there was only me to cook for and soon any enthusiasm disappeared. I don`t live on cheese and crackers but I could very easily. I cook the best simple fresh ingredients but there is no adventure

If I can cook all in one pan, I do and like some, I batch cook my own ready meals. I really cannot be bothered cooking any more

I have visitors tomorrow and am cooking a vegetarian tray bake that I make for my own ready meals. What does throw me is vegan catering for visitors, not just a one-off meal but a succession over a few days.

I’m so grateful for this thread, it’s making me feel so much better. I used to be a good cook and a better baker but now if something comes out right it feels like a triumph and don’t get me started on deciding WHAT to cook.
