Welcome to the Fourth Thread, Questioners and Answerers!

Are you feeling Autumnal?

henetha Wed 29-Sept-21 12:29:21

No, never head girl or even a prefect. Far too shy and unsociable.

Do you use sweet potatoes often? In preference to white potatoes, or for health reasons? I like sweet potato mash, and sometimes chips.

hollysteers Wed 29-Sept-21 15:04:25

No, but have had them dining out, not keen.

What is your happy place?
(Mine is in a bookshop or when the AC are staying)

AGAA4 Wed 29-Sept-21 16:39:37

I have several but the best is sitting on the sofa cuddling my 2 year old GS.

Do you have nice neighbours?

BBbevan Wed 29-Sept-21 17:11:48

Absolutely lovely.

What is your favourite thread on here at the moment ?

NotAGran55 Wed 29-Sept-21 18:53:39

This one smile

Are you a listener or a talker ?

AGAA4 Wed 29-Sept-21 19:45:50

I am a listener. You find out more by listening.

Do you have photos of family around the house?

hollysteers Thu 30-Sept-21 00:51:26

Yes, but since my husband died in 2016, it upsets me seeing some of them.

If you could only keep one cleaning product in the house, what would it be?
(Washing up liquid for me)

FannyCornforth Thu 30-Sept-21 05:59:42

Laundry liquid eg Bold or Surf.
Brilliant for cleaning baths, carpets, baking trays

Brands that you are a little bit snooty about, and insist upon, eg Hellman’s mayo; Tanquaray gin; a certain make-up brand

NotAGran55 Thu 30-Sept-21 06:11:14

Duchy Organic milk ?.

Ground coffee, pods or instant?

BBbevan Thu 30-Sept-21 06:15:26

Ground always, though sometimes use bags for quickness.

Is there something you have done or made that has made you very proud of yourself. ?

biglouis Thu 30-Sept-21 10:33:55

Getting my Ph.d. as a mature postgrad was an achievement I am proud of - coming from a poor 1950s childhood.

Have you ever had a debt collector call looking for a former resident?

This happened to me several times when I was renting. The last one was bloody rude and I threatened him with the police.

henetha Thu 30-Sept-21 10:39:42

No, thank goodness, I haven't. How horrible!

Have you ever been stung by a jellyfish? Or a hornet?
Or a snake? Anything more alarming than a wasp or bee?

FannyCornforth Thu 30-Sept-21 10:55:09

That’s brilliant DrLouis! ⭐️

I was stung by, what DH says was, a horsefly.
It was massive, not like a fly, much longer with this horrible great sting. It got caught in the sleeve of my t-shirt. I saw it with its vile sting in my arm, and I still feel sick thinking about it.
Afterwards for a good few hours it felt like an electric shock through my arm

Do you have a recurrent dream?

FannyCornforth Thu 30-Sept-21 10:56:24

I’ve just googled, and it definitely wasn’t a horsefly! Stupid man! smile

FannyCornforth Thu 30-Sept-21 11:03:26

It was one of these! shock
A ‘black slip wasp’! Look at the state of it! envy
And I usually really like insects

henetha Thu 30-Sept-21 11:06:53

That's horrible Fanny. I hope you never encounter one of those again, whatever it was.
Yes, always had recurring dreams. When young I constantly dreamt that I was up a tree watching a tsunami swirling underneath me. These days I keep dreaming that I'm typing a book upside down so I can't read the words. And various others.

Have you ever had an electric shock?

henetha Thu 30-Sept-21 11:07:38

It looks horrible too!

hollysteers Thu 30-Sept-21 11:55:43

Yes the covering to the handles to the electric toaster had come off and I gripped them!

How have you surprised yourself?
(Me, not needing a drink to socialise)

DanniRae Thu 30-Sept-21 12:08:47

Yes, when the doctor sent me to "Strength and Balance" classes and I trotted off and joined in without having hours of anxiety and dread! And I thoroughly enjoyed it until covid put an end to it.

What part of your life causes you the most anxiety?

AGAA4 Thu 30-Sept-21 16:47:18

Anything that affects my ACs or GCs in a bad way.

Will you be buying winter clothes this year? I have decided to make do with what I have as my wardrobe is overfull without adding more.

biglouis Thu 30-Sept-21 23:46:12

I go out very little because of mobility issues and then only by taxi, so I dont plan to buy any new clothes.

Have you ever stopped to help anyone in the street?

I once found a little girl crying outside a busy station. People were just walking past her. She said she had "lost" her family. I took her into the ticket office and they called the transport police (including a female officer) to deal with her.

henetha Fri 01-Oct-21 10:30:52

Not exactly. But I did come across what I thought was a dead body lying in the road in front of my car one evening. I stopped and soon realised that she was still alive.
So went to the nearest phone box and called the police. (this was before mobile phones). 5 police cars turned up, and an ambulance and suddenly it was bedlam! After being briefly interviewed, and my car examined, I was allowed to go.
The really annoying thing was that I never found out what was wrong with her, although I did phone the police to ask and was politely shut up!

Have you ever collapsed or been taken ill in public?

Ali08 Fri 01-Oct-21 14:45:28

Yes, and I was very embarrassed!
First time, I fainted in school assembly just as the lines were leaving. I had stuck out my arm to see if the line behind me had left and was promptly told off by the girl I touched, fainted and as I did so I heard her shout out to the headmaster I had fainted! ?
A few years later, I had an asthma attack - before I knew I was asthmatic - in pub toilets and rushed out for air.
A lovely off duty nurse helped me.
And just a few years ago, a flaming panic attack as I got caught in a Christmas crowd and could find my way out - again, was helped by a lovely lady!

Did you climb trees when you were little or were you a city dweller?

Ali08 Fri 01-Oct-21 14:46:17

*couldn't find my way out!

crazyH Fri 01-Oct-21 14:53:31

Yes, we had a great big tree in our back garden and it’s lower branch was very thick, and we would climb on to it, sit down and have our snacks. Can’t remember what tree it was.

Do you have days when you just sit around doing nothing and then feel guilty? FYI, I don’t ?
