Gardening

Good to see loads of bees round the open crocus's/crocii. This is only the third day this season that they have been fully out (sunshine) and they are starting to go over [sad] still, nice to see them

Isn't this going a bit too much the other way, thread title-wise, jingl? grin

j08 Tue 05-Mar-13 11:57:55

No.

annodomini Tue 05-Mar-13 12:02:29

That's a post not a thread title.

janeainsworth Tue 05-Mar-13 12:17:53

Well I haven't seen any bees in my garden.

Nice one Jane grin

Found some forgotten crocuses in my garden (even ooper north than you, I think, jane (further west too, I expect, which makes a difference)). No bees or wasps yet though.

Why is it the pale purple ones naturalise better than the yellow ones. And better than the brighter purple ones too? confused

You do need sunshine to really appreciate crocuses. #preferenglishtogreek smile

Can I mention I saw a single primrose and a butterfly on this afternoon's dog walk? Or will that require another thread? wink

j08 Tue 05-Mar-13 15:51:16

I had a lovely brown and orange butterfly on my winter-flowering pansies (still going strong) this morning.

JessM Tue 05-Mar-13 16:05:21

LOL what are you like jo8... (please dont answer)

I saw a red admiral and a brimstone butterfly today. the car thinks it is 17deg. Sitting here with the back door open.
Went for lunch with someone from GN - showed her a hidden garden she had not seen before - pulmonaria out and also some large iris up against an old wall. Lovely. Garden envy.

Butty Tue 05-Mar-13 16:48:26

That's more like it J ! wink Whatever you're on, I want some.

gracesmum Tue 05-Mar-13 16:49:35

smile Weeds also seem to think it is time to get growing sad but the feel of the sun on my back makes it just about bearable!
PS Don't altogether get the thread title - could you be a little more specific?grin

Wheniwasyourage Tue 05-Mar-13 16:51:12

Our crocuses are hardly through the grass yet. I think I can see some because I know where they should be. Oh well, something to keep looking forward to!

Stansgran Tue 05-Mar-13 17:19:37

Ground elder is making its wicked way through

Galen Tue 05-Mar-13 17:43:55

I'd have loved to sit outside today, but didn't dare stray too far from the facilities!

Anne58 Tue 05-Mar-13 18:49:16

hmm

merlotgran Tue 05-Mar-13 19:12:11

Our crocuses are only just poking through as well. I'm getting impatient. The snowdrops still look lovely though and the daffs are budding up.

j08 Tue 05-Mar-13 19:32:56

The snowdrops are lasting amazingly well! Much longer than they usually do. I wonder why.

merlotgran Tue 05-Mar-13 19:42:51

jingle, DH has just looked over my shoulder and thought your thread title read, Good to See Loads of BEERS Around the Open Crocuses. shock grin

j08 Tue 05-Mar-13 19:45:31

grin No. No beers! (One empty wine bottle making it's slow way to the recycling bin, but that's it)

Galen Sun 10-Mar-13 13:14:25

Amazing! There has been a lump of manchego cheese on the bird table for a month! Totally ignored!
Today in half an hour, a foreign blackbird started on it! I think he must be an immigrant from Spain, followed closely by the robin and the lbj.

JessM Sun 10-Mar-13 13:39:44

Every cloud (an blooming freezing easterly wind) has a sliver lining - the snowdrops are lasting much longer grin
Hardly any blackthorn here yet - i don't remember having such a long cold winter - it started in Dec.

Galen Sun 10-Mar-13 14:01:08

My fuscias are just starting to show leaf and my white camellia will be out soon. I think spring is around the cornersmile

annodomini Sun 10-Mar-13 14:18:43

My camellias are very tardy this year. However, there's a lovely splash of colour from my rhododendron praecox which has never been better.
