He’s called Ned. Isn’t he gorgeous?

I like the idea of a rescue dog.
But I like the puppy stage immensely, a bit like I love babies under 12 months. I am early 60s and our golden pup is testing my fitness and stamina, in a good way. Ned looks so like him.

Looks like he’s settling in nicely. ?

I've just noticed the size of his ?.
He is going to be big!

That's it, he's stolen the show already!
Monty probably thought he'd plant a prickly bush as Ned wouldn't join in. Think again!

What a character he’s going to be.

Patty looked entirely fed up?.

Loved the picture of Monty with all three of his dogs at the end of the programme.

I fell in love with Ned when I saw him on last night's programme (Monty is not bad either)!

Just to say I know several people-our daughter included -who have tried to rehome a rescue dog.Their criteria are so so strict now its virtually impossible
One lady was turned down because she has grandchildren. Another wasn't given a reason but is sure its because she is in her 70s despite being fit and having a big secure garden. We've had several rescues in the past but makes me wonder if we'd be turned down too.Ned is adorable!

I don’t think it’s right to imply that Monty should have had a rescue dog, he’s had golden retrievers for years, they are clearly his favourite breed - and it’s a good idea to get a puppy if you have several existing dogs, there’s much less chance of them not getting on. I don’t suppose there are many healthy retriever puppies available through rescue centres, there would be a queue as long as your arm if there were. Ned is gorgeous, I’d pick him too.

We have always had rescue dogs (and children) I don't think it is that difficult to adopt a dog. I think it is the bigger rescues that tend to be stricter.

Pretty much zilch where rescue retrievers are concerned, but occasionally they can be rescued from abroad.

A full month on and Mr. Cheeky has his paws on the table. He is growing fast!

Sorry to keep resurrecting this thread, but today's comment from Monty Don made me laugh!
Portrait of a puppy that has just stolen and eaten entire freshly baked apple cake.

Bless him!! He’s getting quite big now.

Casdon Thu 17-Nov-22 16:55:01

He’s at that stage where he’s all legs!

“Oh it wasn’t me 😇 “ moment

He’s adorable. He’s going to be a tall dog, I think. He has a very mischievous streak - I watched him pinching beans out of monty’s trug on one programme, and digging up plants that had been put in the ground, so pinching the apple cake doesn’t surprise me 😂.

Sorry, me again, but there's a Gardeners' World winter special tonight at 9pm.
Just look how Ned is being squished in between the other two and being held onto very tightly!
