Well, as of 1.44 am today, I have a second baby grand-daughter
She arrived on her due date, and mum achieved her much-wanted home birth.
This was particularly precious because at 36 weeks baby was breech, and my daughter was being pressured into (but strongly resisting) booking a caesarian!
With plenty of encouraging movement and some reflexology, she turned a week later. Phew!
She was also thinking that if baby's arrival looked like being a night-time one, she'd probably opt for the Birthing Centre about 45 mins away, as she'd be worried about Sienna (who was 22 months today) waking up and being upset by it all.
In the event, Sienna slept through upstairs while mum and dad experienced a very peaceful, calm and straightforward delivery downstairs.
All very much valued, as Sienna was induced, which my daughter found very upsetting, and she endured a very long labour first time round.
She feels very lucky to have experienced such a lovely birth this time.
The downside, from Nanna's perspective, is that I haven't seen our new baby yet, as my toddler-minding were not needed at all!
Needless to say I did not sleep a wink all night, worrying that if everything wasn't completely straight-forward and a transfer to hospital was needed, I'd have to drive like a bat out of hell to toddler-mind.
Then of course, when SIL texted the birth announcement to everyone at 4am, I was too excited to sleep and ended up ordering flowers on the internet! No idea how I stayed awake at work all day today!
Hopefully I will meet our new arrival on Sunday, and will make sure I pop some photos on my profile.
She has been named Aria Mai, which I think is lovely.
Congratulations to Nans/Grans of the other recent arrivals, and hopefully the happy news will continue to flow.
Who was the other 21/2 due date? Kazgran?? Any news?
