New grandchild in 2013?

I know there are a few of us in happy anticipation of a new grandchild this year. My daughter's baby is due in February and she's chosen NOT to know the gender; although names for either have been chosen and I do like them both very much. I am very excited at the prospect of being present at the birth, as I was with daughter's first baby - and happily my lovely son in law is glad to share the experience.
Who else is an expectant gran/grandfather?

Well, as of 1.44 am today, I have a second baby grand-daughter grin
She arrived on her due date, and mum achieved her much-wanted home birth.
This was particularly precious because at 36 weeks baby was breech, and my daughter was being pressured into (but strongly resisting) booking a caesarian!
With plenty of encouraging movement and some reflexology, she turned a week later. Phew!
She was also thinking that if baby's arrival looked like being a night-time one, she'd probably opt for the Birthing Centre about 45 mins away, as she'd be worried about Sienna (who was 22 months today) waking up and being upset by it all.
In the event, Sienna slept through upstairs while mum and dad experienced a very peaceful, calm and straightforward delivery downstairs.
All very much valued, as Sienna was induced, which my daughter found very upsetting, and she endured a very long labour first time round.
She feels very lucky to have experienced such a lovely birth this time.
The downside, from Nanna's perspective, is that I haven't seen our new baby yet, as my toddler-minding were not needed at all!
Needless to say I did not sleep a wink all night, worrying that if everything wasn't completely straight-forward and a transfer to hospital was needed, I'd have to drive like a bat out of hell to toddler-mind.
Then of course, when SIL texted the birth announcement to everyone at 4am, I was too excited to sleep and ended up ordering flowers on the internet! No idea how I stayed awake at work all day today!
Hopefully I will meet our new arrival on Sunday, and will make sure I pop some photos on my profile.
She has been named Aria Mai, which I think is lovely.
Congratulations to Nans/Grans of the other recent arrivals, and hopefully the happy news will continue to flow.
Who was the other 21/2 due date? Kazgran?? Any news?

Off to bed now moon

Brilliant news NannaAnna and what a pretty name. flowersbrew

DD3 has 4 weeks to go and, as we are Bertie-watching when things start to happen, we are going away for the weekend while we can.

We have a new baby due in July - I am birth partner as the daddy isn't very good with things medical. I don't mind, in fact, am overjoyed. I was there for the birth of their first little one who will be almost 3 when baby is born. This will be my 11th grandchild. They know the sex - girl - but are keeping names a secret.

Lovely news, nannaanna. You must be impatient for that first cuddle. She has a beautiful name. flowers

Kitty don't go too far. If our holiday hadn't been cancelled we would have been away when GS1 arrived as he was 5 weeks early!

NannaAnna what a lovely birth story. Congratulations on being a second time granny and enjoy meeting baby Aria Mai on Sunday. Bet you're chomping at the bit to get over there. grin

harrigran Fri 22-Feb-13 12:31:50

Congratulations NannaAnna how lovely to have a home birth. I had one and my toddler slept through, the look on her face when she saw the baby was priceless smile

NannaAnna Sat 23-Feb-13 01:02:50

Thank you everyone smile
harrigan One thing I am really looking forward to is seeing how toddler (Sienna) is relating to the new arrival! She has been gentle and loving towards other new babies in my daughter's friendship group, and it will be interesting to see if she's the same with a baby who stays in her home and monopolises her mummy! (Especially as her mummy was a very very jealous toddler hmm)

Hi. I too had a new Grandchild(grandson)in Feb 2013, I too was looking forward to being present at the birth but because of the Sickness Virus in hospital they were only allowing one birth partner and ofcourse that should be Daddy to be. I was gutted BUT have forgotten all that now we have a happy, healthy Grandson.
Looking forward to spending time with this gorgeous new baby grandson.
