If you read the book I mention you will see how much we all interact with newborns and babies differently if we're told they are either a boy or a girl. The 'choices' many of you identify girls making may be less choice than an unconscious recognition of direction of steer by adult society. That's what I find so troubling. I wouldn't be at all suprised if GD plays with dinosaurs as if they're friends; that's what my D did when we introduced her to chess with the chess pieces. I don't care if they do that. I do care that marketing makes it clear what is 'expected' by putting boys or girls on the boxes (in case there were any doubt of which was more appropriate) or using that ubiquitous pink as code. I'm just not convinced it's as 'natural' as some of you do.
