Hi
I am new, joined a couple of days ago. I left a bit about me on another thread, but I don't think anyone noticed it. Perhaps it was the wrong thread to use. I have a three year old granddaughter. I work full time from home, and am a carer for my Hubby who has Parkinson's Disease. I have just started a whole new learning curve too with self publishing on Amazon Kindle. Will tell more about that later if I get replies and get to know a few people here. I don't want everyone thinking I am here just to bang on about my little book :-) I am very late up tonight so better get to bed to try and get some sleep. I shall be excited to log on tomorrow to see if I have any replies :-).

vallazza - I'd be very interested in your little book! Time I finished the family history I've been doing for my cousins. I intended to give them copies on my 75th birthday but that was over a year ago! Welcome to Gransnet, it's interesting, amusing, supportive, informative and much more! Enjoy!

Welcome vallaza flowers. Sorry I didn't see your post elsewhere. Threads can fizzle out sometimes, so don't take it as a personal snub! It has happened to us all!
There are others on here who have partners with Parkinson's, so I am sure you will be able to give and receive support from them and others. Your self publishing sounds interesting, I hope you will soon find some kindred spirits on here. I look forward to reading your contributions to the varied threads on Gransnet.

Hi Shysal, and Elrel,
Was so excited to see that I had some replies today! I didn't take the lack of response personally. I usually manage to muck things up so knew itwas probably me :-).
Interesting to be told that others here have Husbands/Partners with PD I was amazed that quite a high percentage of the population have it to some degree or other, and it isn't always older people either.

My book is not an epic :-) it is a little Diet book coming at things from a slightly different angle to the normal diet regimes. I guess I am allowed to say what it is on here as it can actually be read free of charge by those who have the Kindle Library thing, and even without that it is possible to see inside and read a little of it.

" My Happy Little Diet Book" by Janey Byrne

I hope I didn't break any rules here?
So Today I am a little fed up. Had a few bad nights because of the PD thing, Hubby often has bad nights, but then he goes back to sleep like a Baby, and I stay awake worrying! Also our Son, Daughter in Law and our only Granddaughter have moved today to Ireland. We won't see so much of them now :-(.

Anyway I guess I have banged on enough here for now. Thanks again for the replies. I think I am going to like this Gransnet!
Janey

Poems?! Here's the end of one of mine about masks and disguise:
Now I appear as an old ladee -
But she's not me,
She's just what YOU see!

vallaza Mon 25-Jul-16 14:41:35

Hi Everyone, mentioning Poems, Elrel. Here is one of mine.
Anyone ever had a day like this? I bet ya did!

The Best Laid Plans....
Content
I had a day off last Friday
I carefully planned my time
A few important calls to make
The rest of the day would be mine

It started off quite well I think
An extended snooze in bed
I thought it would carry on that way
I must have been off my head!

I thought to get the calls all done
In the blinking of an eye
After that a nice strong coffee
For a treat some of my apple pie.

The first call took an hour or so
Thirty minutes of that was a wait
I listened to recorded garbage
When put through I was pretty irate

I called the second, the day now half gone
I waited another half hour
Had I known it would take that long to answer
I could have had a refreshing cold shower!

When finally this one was answered
I opened my mouth, thus to speak
The wretched phone went dead on me
I began to feel quite weak

I pressed it and poked it and prodded
banged and rattled 'till I thought it would break
I knew it would never connect me again
I swore, and my head I did shake

The house was a mess, I had not had lunch
But I headed out, off to the shop
I had really wanted to sit here and write
But for now that all had to stop

Returning home I stepped inside
The dog had thrown up on the mat
I fetched a bowl, rung out a cloth
that swiftly took care of that

Time to do some more work now
I really didn't want it this way
Still, in the words of Scarlett from Tara
Tomorrow is another day.

Hi hope that made you smile Ladies?

Janal Mon 25-Jul-16 18:42:07

Does anyone get as cross as I do when looking at a holiday location (or just a nice day out )and you are told "it is just an hours drive "to some interesting place they have been writing about, what if you don't have a car or can't drive.although I still drive I only drive short distances. Sometimes I think "oh that looks nice, but without a car there seems to be no way of getting there.

vallaza Mon 25-Jul-16 19:48:10

Hi Janal,
Yes I hate that too. I do drive but I have never been a brave driver. I tend to use the car just for shopping if I have a heavy load, otherwise I walk everywhere. Hubby used to do all the driving but now he isn't able to so we are much more confined. :-(
