I have been out of action for over a day because the fellows moved my computer into another room and I lost internet access. They spent ages trying to connect again but no joy. My cleaner came in today and did it within 10 minutes! Then mouse no.1 decided to have a permanent rest as did mouse no.2 so luckily I had a brand new one tucked away. There are advantages to my over ordering at times.

I caught one of the youngsters painting around a painting hanging up yesterday. You would have heard me if you had a window open. Then he decided to paint the window reveals without removing the nets and curtains. He returned rapidly to working outside or I would have been arrested for GBH.

One of the fellows in the next street accosted me yesterday because somebody had scratched his car and he thought that it had been me. I have had words in the past because the spaces here are allocated and he does not live here. I told him that I talk things through, I do not do anything like that even although I would like to remove it and him permanently.

He then accused the builders and when they denied all knowledge it had to be the chap who removed the skip. His vehicle would have shunted his car off the road, not scratched it and why pick on his? He is well balanced with a chip on each shoulder. He is looking for somebody to pay for the damage. I feel a tad sorry for him because it will be expensive but it is not my problem.

The chaps think that they will be finished next Tuesday, I would say that there is another week+ work to do. One chap did not realise that ceilings and radiators were part of the contract- what planet is he on?

I am watching the work like a hawk, especially as the new boss is on a 4 day flat roofing course. I have offered to be his project manager because he is in dire need of one. I could save him money if nothing else.

I fell about laughing reading about the dropping of knickers and skirt stories.

My most embarrassing one was when I had left the house with my skirt tucked into my tights and knickers. I parked, caught the tube, nobody told me and I was walking in central London when there was a tap on my shoulder, it was a young lad who worked in the same place as I did. I thanked him but I was so embarrassed.

Wobbly that is fabulous news- it makes such a difference from receiving notification that it has been cancelled.

Wondered where you were charley, I miss the tales of builders blunders. Pleased you continue to be in charge, sounds as if they don't have a clue. I was thinking about your Tuesday finish date and wondering if they mean March? Reminded me of one of our sons asking to leave some stuff when he moved out, until Easter he said. He didn't say the Easter he meant was four years away grin. Your neighbour sounds to be looking for someone to pay to fix his car, anyone will do. Sounds as if you managed him well. I do hope you can reclaim your home very soon, it's more than frustrating to share it with visitors who have outstayed their welcome. Your medal is in the post. smile.

The homework took half a packet of biscuits and the negotiation skills of the UN n&g,
It was finished marginally sooner than the emptying of the patience reservoir. Just hope it was OK!

Hope you continue to be careful soop, it's a funny old world out in the garden.

A quick pop in to catch up on news and to say a huge thank you for thinking of me yesterday. The funeral went off as well as it could and my brother's Eulogy was well judged and funny - he only cried twice. We had been worried about choosing a hymn that everyone could sing and opted for All Things Bright and Beautiful. However, we needn't have worried - the organist joined in with gusto, drowning out the mourners. The celebrant, a friend of mine, and I daren't look at each other for fear of hysteria breaking out! blush

soop Fri 17-Mar-17 11:59:38

It's piddling with rain in Kintyre. Rory took one look and walked back into the house. He has a thing about wet paddy paws. The frantic leg shaking goes on long after he's looked at puddles.

Charleyg What planet, indeed! You should write a story about the buggerations galore. In fact, I have already done so. I called the story - the adventures of Mr Bodgit. When Torben was very much younger, I wrote several short bedtime stories.
As for you leaving the house with your skirt tucked into your tights and knickers...I almost spluttered coffee over the keyboard.

cornergran Your negotiating skills are worthy of recognition. You deserve a big, glitzy badge.

kitty I chose 'All Things Bright and Beautiful' for my father's funeral. He used to sing it with gusto and completely off key. smile

My lounge has been cleaned "man style". All of the rubble has been removed and the poor fellows was on his hands and knees delicately scraping off concrete. It is a laminate floor and is still filthy but I have no idea what if anything will return it to its shining glory.

The other fellow worked really hard today doing the re-pointing. They are not Irish but the car driver and his family had been invited to a mid afternoon lunch in a restaurant in Luton which is miles away from here so they left early. They are always here at 9am every morning- they have never let me down.

I have so much to clear up it is unreal. My kitchen equipment had been thrown into black bags and I found batteries and loo cleaning equipment alongside rice, flour, tins of tomatoes and china gravy dishes etc. Nobody bothered to check if each jar lid was secure with the resultant mess. Thankfully that pair of jokers are long gone and will never be returning.

I can now see light at the end of the tunnel now that my furniture has been re-arranged. The room is more spacious than I had ever thought and with a few more tweeks it may even be livable in the near future.

soop Fri 17-Mar-17 18:10:55

Right! I'm miffed. A long, detailed end of day message has completely vanished from the screen.

In short, I'm very pleased that Charleyg is beginning to see the light.

I'm hoping that WB is feeling cool, calm and collected in readiness for his surgery.

Also keeping fingers crossed for ann who deserves a weekend away.

Am hopeful that Jud will update us on Georgie's progress.

Sorry to have to rush away. I shall tell you more news tomorrow. smile moon

Charleygirl Fri 17-Mar-17 18:43:36

One of the fellows discovered from me yesterday that ceilings and radiators were included in the cost and then asked me today if I wanted emulsion or gloss on them. Neither said I, I would like white radiator paint applied after the radiators have been sanded down. I am well aware that I ma flavour of the month.

annsixty Fri 17-Mar-17 18:57:16

Oh Charleygirl how on earth have you kept your sanity.
I am at the stage in life when any small upset or minor job in the home puts me in a tizz.
I would have moved with Tara into a hotel for the duration and as none of it seems to be your fault the original builder would be footing the bill.
Best wishes to wb for tomorrow.

Wobblybits Fri 17-Mar-17 19:03:09

Tomorrows surgery was cancelled a couple of hours ago, apparently there was a problem with my ECG. I now have to be re-referred to the main hospital, this means not only will I be be at the back of the queue but the paperwork takes an extra month. This means another 6 months or so, very *****ed off.

Charleygirl Fri 17-Mar-17 19:06:34

The electrician does not know what is coming from me on Tuesday when he pops in to carry out all of the tasks he "missed".

One of the builders had a small electric shock which I did not know about until today. I am going to ask for some money back because I still have not forgotten him leaving me for an evening and night with no central heating or light but he kindly left me a torch.

Ann are you and H going away for the weekend? I do hope so, your friends will keep you sane.

Good luck Wobbly for tomorrow. You will be a new man for Easter.

annsixty Fri 17-Mar-17 19:07:16

Feel for you wb what an awful thing to happen and it must be so disheartening for you.?

annsixty Fri 17-Mar-17 19:09:20

Yes * charley* we are going on Sunday morning and back late Tuesday afternoon.

Charleygirl Fri 17-Mar-17 19:11:19

Wobbly so sorry to hear that news. I would ring the consultant's secretary on Monday stating that you do not want to go to the back of the queue. If possible say that you are ready to come in at the drop of a hat if and when your ECG is okay.

Wobblybits Fri 17-Mar-17 19:26:14

I have already spoken to her, all she can do is refer me back to the NHS, not very helpful. I am going to speak to my Dr, on Tuesday to see if he can do anything, also check the ECG problem before I have surgery.

There may be an upside, I am having a lot of stomach pain atm, my Dr says cancer is a possibility and I am having a scan next week, so that might well be more urgent than my hip.

annsixty Fri 17-Mar-17 19:34:27

Oh dear wb not helpful news. I hope your fears are not realised.

Greyduster Fri 17-Mar-17 19:58:27

wobbly I am sending you a hug and a back rub - your news is an absolute bummer sad.

Gagagran Fri 17-Mar-17 20:00:28

I was fast tracked for a gastroscopy and scan in January after suffering agonising stomach pains and cancer was a possible diagnosis for me too wobbly but it turned out to be a severe gastritis and liver inflammation from the gastritis. It was caused by my taking ibuprofen - quite a lot for quite a time to cope with knee, neck and back pains. I am now on omeprazole and will be for the next two months and it has done the trick I think (fingers crossed). I shall not be taking ibuprofen again.

wobbly I am just wondering if you have been taking a lot of ibuprofen or other NSAID for your hip pain and if this could be causing the stomach pain? Just a thought. Good luck with everything. sunshine

cornergran Fri 17-Mar-17 20:04:00

So sorry. wb, I have an urge to stamp my feet and shout 'it's not fair' on your behalf.

Oh blimey Charley, builders blunders continue. Or in your case electricians errors is perhaps a more accurate term. Sounds as if some of their work was actually dangerous. Any way of reporting them to their trade body, or is that ott?

Are you off to your friends tomorrow, ann, or did you decide against? Really hoping it felt possible, you deserve a nice weekend.

Your description of the organist made me smile kitty. All Things Bright and Beautiful is on my list for the day my funeral comes, my family are well aware of my need to be in control and won't be surprised at my forward planning. Relieved to hear all went as well as it could.

Foul day weather-wise here today too, soop, cold wind and rain, if anyone has found Spring will they please send it this way? Looking forward to a quiet weekend before minding Littlest on Monday. He's adorable but moves faster than I do smile.

Wobblybits Fri 17-Mar-17 20:57:55

I am hoping my pains are caused by the NSAIDs I am taking codrydomol and naproxene

mcem Fri 17-Mar-17 21:24:39

Didn't your doc prescribe omeprazole to take along with your NSAIDs to protect your stomach from them? Worth asking about.

mcem Fri 17-Mar-17 21:27:10

Sorry didn't spot that someone upthread had already mentioned omeprazole!

Crafting Fri 17-Mar-17 21:36:07

Oh wobbly what a shame about your cancelled op. Hope you get your stomach scan soon and all is well. At least the scan should be soon. Fingers and toes crossed for a clear result.

cornergran Sat 18-Mar-17 06:42:46

charley. Just seen your thread about the electrician, so ignore my last thought on here. Really pleased you will deal with this formally, he is a menace.
