Soops cosy kitchen for kind peoples and precious pets !
(1001 Posts) All ready for business...pull up a chair
Good Morning all !
Oh its a blue sky morning here and the sun is shining. Its lovely !!
Maw I feel for your families passport problems and glad it was resolved. A few years ago my eldest daughter realised the day before we all flew to Florida that she had thrown their passports away. In the end they had to follow us 2 days later thanks to some wonderful people at the airline and passport offices !! Amadeus sounds wonderful, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Half term was this week past for us Grey . Apart from Laura's sleepover we had the two youngest boys last night for dinner ( I cant eat a whole one
), and their parents. Jackson wanted a buffet of things, as he put it that 'I don't like' !! I created a bizarre platter for him that included stuffing balls, pigs in blankets and poppadum's( we were eating Indian food). Funnily enough he ate it all...on with the search then
.
What did you settle on for the cod roe Izabella I had to google it as I didn't know what it was....good luck
.
Lona I have to use the laptop to post because its exhausting on the iPad - predictive text and one fingered typing at best ! Its good to be a nutter ...those are the memories your little granddaughter will recall fondly . More nuttiness I say !!
Oh soop your travel arrangements sound so complicated !! When I win the lottery I shall arrange for a nice private plane for you to wait at both ends ! In the meantime though ...bus it is !
Sorry to hear there are lots of return bugs taking hold. We had a year like that a couple of years ago and now I try very hard to recognise when I'm getting run down to up the vitamins and such . Get well soon everyone.
Grampy is decorating the spare room today. In our recent set of estate agents photos ( and we have a few now !!) it looked quite shabby in comparison to the other rooms. In the end we decided , as we will stay here if we cant sell, that we would splash out on a can of paint etc and redo it. I bought some beautiful gold and grey bedding from Next to have decided to paint a feature wall in a similar gold and use a very pale grey on the walls , then use the bedding. Last thing will to pop out to the Range tomorrow and find something large to put on the wall over the bed !!
I shall post the finished article here so you can see his hard work.
Get well soon anyone who is poorly x
Soop the old Rep, the Royal theatre is still where it was and was beautifully restored a few years ago, it is a little gem and is still a "producing" theatre. The new Derngate Complex was built incorporating the Royal, which you now access from "round the back" , the Derngate theatre which is much bigger and in recent years, the Errol Flynn Filmhouse which has 88 seats (v comfortable, lots of legroom and somewhere to put your
)
These show the interior of the Royal , the shared foyer and the Derngate complex from the front.
I don't know why we don't get there more often, it is excellent.
Izabella I love cod roe, the pink variety which I used to spread on toast for lunch- delicious.
MawBroon delighted to hear that you enjoyed your evening out, leaving the two at home to slumber.
corner unless your lurgy has had the temerity to reach your chest I am unsure what your GP could do for you. It appears to be a very nasty virus. Did you have a flu jab? I have and I have also tried to keep away from crowds.
N&G that sounds like a good idea- it may help to sell your house and if you do not manage you will get some pleasure out of it and it has not cost you a fortune.
soop I think that you are taking the best method of transport while trying to preserve your sanity. That is one of the problems of living so far away from civilisation. Even so a 4 hour bus trip is a tad long.
The buggerations are following each other in this house. The builders idea of cleaning and mine is rather different. I hoover first rather than move dust and rubble from side to side and they still leave me with a filthy pathway.
We have been trying to source on line matching cupboard doors as the kitchen is being enlarged. The builder has trawled every kitchen shop he knows and is willing to drive anywhere to pick them up as we are desperate. We know the firm in Birmingham which stocks them, they supplied and fitted my present kitchen but they will only fit a kitchen, not sell a few doors to trade. They are too big, they do not need the money.
At this rate I will be needing a premium bond to come up trumps with a million on the 1st March.
Like Tara I may retire to bed.
Charley if that company sold you the kitchen surely they should be willing to sell you a few doors to upgrade. It shows how pleased you were with your original purchase.
is it worth taking to Facebook or Twitter to moan? Companies o seem keen to resolve issues that make the social media stage .
That was my thinking charley, but it's beyond a joke now, nearly three months. Desperation is creeping in. Can do very little, balance is haywire, constant headache and worse brain fog than usual. No nasty coughing up but I am very breathless, see what a couple more days brings. Yes, flu jab was jabbed, Will stop moaning, promise
When we bought a house years back the kitchen doors had a sticker inside with the name of the manufacturer who was prepared to send some to our local friendly builder. Actually a neighbour, but he was also a builder. Doesn't sound so simple for you if your installer has a monopoly. Can imagine the frustration. You seem remarkably patient. Builders and dust management just don't seem to go together. The only one I know who was oh so careful was our previous neighbour, our experiences here have been dreadful.
Your re-decoration sounds very stylish, n&g, you have certainly worked very hard to present your home to potential buyers. As charley said, if you stay put for a while lots for you to enjoy.
charleygirl would it work to move some of your existing doors to the extended bit and have a more "random" mix and match effect - sizes permitting?
The " unfitted kitchen" look can be really effective if a little quirky!
N&G my current chef and OH did the cod roe in slices dipped in egg and then sourdough spelt breadcrumbs and fried gently. Served with sweet potato oven chips with rosemary and mixed winter Japanese greens from the Lottie. I also think one or two pleasant grumbles about your cupboard door on social media may stir things up a bit.
Charleygirl it was the hard roe so not soft. We never seem to find the pink roe to make taramasalata these days. Lamb shanks with rosemary (she gets around) for dinner later with cauliflower rice and home grown sprouts. Not many of those left but they have been splendid this year. Just waiting for the weather to brighten then I shall go and do more one handed weeding of the herb bed. FRacture clinic again next week.
Greyduster tell me more about that art exhition at Chatsworth.. Can't find anything on the website.
Dull morning here, but the hens produced a lovely eggy breakfast for us including Florence's wondrous blue egg.
Now then, any gardeners here? Firstly, when do folks sow their tomato seeds, and secondly, here is a pic of our lovely primroses.
N&G one would think that selling a few doors would be no skin off their nose but they want to supply the carcuses and fit them as well as the doors. I have no idea about Facebook and Twitter- I can barely use the internet. They advertise in the London Evening Standard which I read on line. That was where I found them- they were fitting for zilch but I would imagine that the price of the doors were raised to compensate. The doors were made in Germany and are very good quality.
Maw I could not live with an unfitted kitchen. I did think of my present units in the kitchen bit and similar units in the dining area but it would not work for me.
corner if you are breathless and feeling dizzy that is a definite GP appointment. Your personal weekend on call quack physician has said!
I am getting to the stage where I am getting fed up with the 17 year old gopher who is the boss's son. I have my pipework outside lagged for frost (by me)- he has removed it to use the outside tap and thrown it to one side where it can blow away. Attention to detail is non existent or maybe I am too fussy.
My gas hob is fitted if only oung Joe could remember where he placed the knobs for working the thing. He has until Wednesday to find them as I have enough microwavable food until then. If no knobs he can buy me a new hob out of his pocket money.
I allowed him to use my cheap bagless hoover- it is in pieces with each piece even in different rooms. I cannot use it. Luckily I have 2 more, please do not ask.
I am fortunate that my local hospital has a psychiatric unit. I do not have a laptop, only a desk top so if you do not hear from me I will be resting quietly there. I am fairly fed up with this house owning lark. My neighbours do not have these problems but I suppose that in a month they are unlikely to have a house with the wow factor.
Could you buy a different complete set of doors from somewhere else, charletgirl? There are places who sell them. Here is one www.doorsgalore.co.uk/Kitchens/?gclid=CM73ycWXnNICFcMp0wodM44K2A (but other retailers are available)
Oh charley, chin up. Won't be long. Think I'd have a word with the boss about his son, he needs house training! Thank you for being my on call physician, if (when I manage to secure an appointment) I am told they can do nothing I will refer them to you
.
Corner, I did reply to you last night about whether to see GP or not. When I posted, the message just stayed there. I should have cut and pasted it, but didn't so it went into the ether. This has happened a lot recently. Sometimes the message doesn't move, but then somehow it gets posted when I move on. Well after that preamble I just wanted to say I would only go to the GP if you get a chesty cough. Even then they won't always prescribe. My lengthy bug did go to my lungs so I did get an antibiotic but it seems they are not effective unless you have a lung infection (pneumonia). Well that's what the GP told me. Luckily my bug obliged and I got the medication. That dry cough you describe is horrible. When I had it I used to go to sleep with a Riccola in my mouth. It seemed to work apart from the times I swallowed one, which was painful. It will get better and one day you'll realise you haven't coughed so much. The headache will go and the appetite will return. I did lose quite a bit of weight after a diet of jelly and yoghurt and nit much else. Here's to a recovery some time soon x
Thanks "Elegran" we have tried that but doors these days are not a standard size or at least mine are not. I also want a reasonable standard, not too cheap looking. I am leaving it in the hands of the builder. I have found him and will be keeping him I think but I will hire him out to you lot if you wish.
Today is my day off- all ready for cleaning and in the middle of washing dusty bed linen.
I will be sending the boss and his son back to cleaning school because each is useless. Wife and mother obviously does everything at home. I have tried to retrain the 17 year old but it would take longer than a few days because he is useless.
corner and kitty I suggest that you present yourselves at the surgery. This bug has well and truly floored you. Whatever happened to the tonic that folk took way back when? Was it Sanatogen? My late Nana swore by the healing powers of a Guinness.
MawB That is so thoughtful of you. The photos rekindled some very fond memories of visits to the Royal. The last time I went, I was with my late Nana and my then two youngish sons. The production was 'Dark Lucy'. Sadly, on our return home, we discovered that our lovely cat (also a Lucy) had been in a motor accident. She had to be put down.
N&G We've a long stretch of sandy beach not too distant from home. A private small seaplane would suit our needs very nicely. Thank you for the offer.
Charleyg We've first hand experience of tidying up after builders. When our home was being built, we lived in a caravan on site. Every evening we donned special gear and armed with brooms we blitzed the interior of the house. I've never in my life come across so much rubble/rubbish/discarded detritus that really should have been cleared away at the end of their shift. We made light of it. Would march with brooms held high and sing...hey ho, hey ho...it's off to work we go... Would you believe that on more than one occasion we were asked not to tidy up. Why? Because they couldn't find their tools. In fact, all tools were laid side by side on a spotless bench.
Hello, Elegran It's good to have your company.
Bellanonna I think that it was a couple of years ago that I went to bed feeling rough and a cough developed that was extremely painful. After a week or so, I couldn't eat and was seeing ants and bluebottle flies zipping around the bedroom. Doctor put me in hospital. It was pneumonia. That's the reason why I'm concerned for a few of our Granspals.
Izabella Where's wobblybits when we need him? He's a knowledgeable gardener. The primroses are gorgeous. I believe that I would very much enjoy the tasty recipe that your husband chef created.
Charleyg I awoke and thought...
it's Sunday. I'm going to enjoy doing very little other than mounting the portrait that I have completed at long last. What do I do? I take it into my head to spring clean the utility room. That job took about an hour. I then thought...I need to spring clean the computer/music/art room. That job ate up well over an hour. I could barely walk through the passage way to the sitting room - it was strewn with stuff that needs to go to the tip. Do you suppose that the female brain works very differently from the male? If MacS suggests he'll have a 'good clear out', he does the opposite. He takes to his chair and reads the papers from cover to cover.
Yes soop that's what happened to me, but without the bluebottles! It was only on the 3rd desperate trip to the GP that I was given tablets but luckily avoided hospital. Doctors are so reluctant now to prescribe and it did take me three visits. The third one in tears. You obviously had a sympathetic GP and by all accounts were very ill.
I would second the advice given to all of the lurgi sufferers given by soop. Go see the GP especially if you have had a cough for a long time. I also developed pneumonia a few years ago because I didn't go to the doctor but tried to soldier on. I also ran a very high temperature that wouldn't come down. I didn't actually see bluebottles any other obnoxious insects but was talking rubbish according to DH. I felt horrible for about 6 months after that.
N&G your redecorated room sounds lovely. Hopefully it will impress viewers of your house and you get it sold. Are you downsizing? Sounds like you need a family sized mansion to accommodate all your GCs!
CG I don't envy you your clearing up. Building dust is just the worst. Seems to get everywhere.
Re: our little Georgie, very small improvements every day. She can now get to her feet occasionally and stand steady for a few minutes. It is rather random when this happens, and usually ends up in a tangle of legs on the floor. We have seen her when excited by her ball pull up and take a few steps. Then she does the splits and that is the end of that for a while. But every little step helps. She follows me about and cries if I am out of her sight. On the sofa in the evening, she curls round me with her head on my knee. Rather cosy actually. Still totally incontinent though
Onwards!
Bellanonna should we entice Bumblebee into the kitchen? He sounds a friendly person and I think would appreciate the craic in here. I miss Wobbly and his chat. Anyone know what has happened to him...or has he changed personality again?
Thank you Jud for the latest update. We're all rooting for Georgie girl. She is a star.
I found a few pics taken during our house build. I was extremely fit and robust in those days. That was about 12 years ago.
I did all the painting, including ceilings. MacSporran did all the carpentry. It was a busy, ultimately rewarding time in our retirement.
MawBroon I noticed that "my" dog is resting her eyes. She is beautiful.
I have the heating on here- I suppose that it is marginally colder because of all the plaster work drying out.
I found the dustpan brush tossed outside and have washed it as I rinsed the mop yesterday evening. Amazingly these things do not clean themselves, I have no idea why. I showed his father how to rinse out a mop, the gopher is next in the queue. How have they coped at other houses or am I fussy?
soop I loved the painting- the dog has such expressive eyes.
Maw Aww! It's therapeutic to read with one's eyes closed. Or so MacS would have me think.
Charleyg It is mild and muggy in Kintyre. Very little in the way of a view.
MacSporran is playing the piano. 'I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair'...very soothing. Rory is sitting beside him. I shall take a photo.
