Between hirpling and talking about being in a guddle you've made me smile tonight soop, both are words I use myself but never hear around me here! Do take care, that leg sounds really painful and you certainly don't want to be hirpling your way to Amsterdam!
Oh Ann what a disappointment for you, I'm so sorry that something that was supposed to be fun ended up being so stressful. I hope you can take up your granddaughters offer of help, you need to have some sort of break on a regular basis. It's a hard job you're doing and a lonely one too I'm sure ?. I wish I could pop in with some real ones.
Glad the sleepover went well swanny sounds like you did a great job!
That wee chap is a smasher Maw you're going to have such fun when he really gets going!
kitty next time maybe you could offer to run the course it sounds like you could very easily do a much better job!
Charley you are a saint, I don't know how you're living through this, mind you I'm not sure how any of these workmen are still alive either. Please note I didn't call them craftsmengrin
Oh well I must get myself to bed, early start tomorrow off to Scotland for a few days. Sadly not as far west as beautiful Kintyre, soop! A few days in the borders then on to visit the old boys 2 brothers/wives It will be a sad visit I think as one sister in law has Alzheimer's and we've been told we will see a big change in her since last summer.

Swanny Thu 23-Mar-17 21:26:15

ann so sorry your trip wasn't the break you'd hoped for and I hope your H is more relaxed back in familiar surroundings. Please make the most of all time you can to have at least a regular couple of hours away from the stress, so you have something to look forward to for yourself. Big gentle (((hugs)))

soop you and MacS certainly seem to be going through it recently. Maybe time to stop rushing around so much? I know you like to help everyone but I was told several years ago "If you never say No, what is your Yes worth?" At least take it easy till that leg is healed please flowers - you've a wedding to go to you know smile

Charleygirl Thu 23-Mar-17 21:20:21

Flynn, although very young, looks so grown up. He is so engrossed in what he is doing.

Tomorrow should be bright and sunny- I do hope that the re-pointing gets done asap. The blinds will be ready next week but they cannot be fitted yet because so much more needs to be done.

Tara's bed has been moved to the 3rd bedroom which is single. She is not going to like that one bit as it will cramp her style.

Swanny Thu 23-Mar-17 21:14:52

kitty I've attended seminars and courses that I've felt were a complete waste of my time and my employers' money. At one such event to do with getting the best from your staff I ended up counselling the facilitator on his marriage problems!

Swanny Thu 23-Mar-17 21:09:34

My sleepover at DGS's last night went as well as could be expected. He seemed quite happy that mum and dad were going out but would be back later, and that grandma would be reading the bedtime stories. All went well - for about an hour grin by which time DGS felt they should be back home! Distraction techniques were called for and thankfully tiredness eventually took over and he fell asleep. I was sharing his bedroom and at 4am he woke, saw me and asked if mum and dad were back yet. I said yes and he went straight off to sleep for another couple of hours. This time he didn't take my word for it and went to make sure by climbing into bed with them smile

I do hope we can do it more often as it gives DS and DDIL a much-needed break. He used to stay overnight at my house quite happily but for some reason hasn't wanted to recently. (Maybe I snore too much grin )

callgirl1 Thu 23-Mar-17 20:57:31

Lovely photo!

Swanny Thu 23-Mar-17 20:47:02

Definitely one for the album Maw! What a sweetheart, he looks quite comfortable there doesn't he smile

Well blow me down, another new kitchen. I well remember the time when I had my first kitchen move .........all those years ago...says me, my little grey head rocking in my rocking chair, blanket on my knees nodding wisely.????.. I can't believe we have another kitchen. Don't tell me I've missed the champers again?.

Can't find the last kitchen so don't know what has been going on recently. I've brought in some nougat ( for those with their own teeth ) so help yourselves while I sit and catch up.

ann sorry I can't find the old kitchen but realise you have had more worries from others comments. Hope you are ok.
greyduster hope the patch is nothing to worry about and there is good news about your DDs interview?

Ooh soop you brave soul having your plaster removed. I am one of those people whose skin comes off with the plaster so I know how it can hurt. ? Please keep your leg raised as others have said. It will help.

charley in the past we too have had dealings with builders. You are a brave woman. I shall now make the comment that others made to me that made me want to hit them ......" It'll be lovely when it's finished grin"

kitty. grin "When you're smiling, when you're smiling, the world keeps smiling too...?

Greyduster Thu 23-Mar-17 18:54:36

soop you never fail to bring a warm smile to my face! Thank you for the very kind offer of the Chocolate ginger biscuit - I think you are far more deserving than I. If I carry on eating lovely things like that I really will be thirteen stones!

kitty these people don't live in the real world - my son was telling me a similar story of frustration at the hands of such a "motivator" who was inflicted on his team at work. They all ended up with their heads in their hands by the time she had finished her spiel! Worst thing is, someone is paying them!!

Corner I bought some new scales from Aldi today. Unlike my old scales which obligingly shaved a couple of pounds off here and there, they are amazingly accurate. I think I'll take them back! grin

I had a nice surprise today. The elder of our two stepGS's phoned to ask if he could call in for a cuppa on his way from Oxford to his home in York. We are not far off the motorway, so he didn't have to go out of his way to get here. We had cream cakes and a nice chat about uni, pictures, pianos, zoos (his girlfriend is interning at London Zoo), agricultural shows - all sorts really. Then he was off to surprise his mum, who doesn't know he's coming.

soop Thu 23-Mar-17 17:52:43

kitty smile smile smile

soop Thu 23-Mar-17 17:51:56

kitty Come on in and lie down. Rory will purr loudly and soothe your ragged nerves. sunshine

soop Thu 23-Mar-17 17:49:15

Greyduster shock That was some buggeration of a mistake. You deserve to join me in dark chocolate, ginger stem biscuit. We could have one each...or...go halves. grin

Izabella Tulle dressing with Inadine...I've made a note.

The weather here is marvellous. MacS has been doing some gentle gardening. I decided to sort out the kitchen cupboards (resting with leg elevated at regular intervals).

A good friend's dog, one of three, died last night. I'm feeling sad for her. So far, we've attended two of her pet cat and a previous dog burials in a place set aside in her garden. The plot is smothered in snowdrops.

Well, at least the day has ended on a positive note. That guddle with the hotel booking unnerved us. All's well that ends well.

Goodnight dear Granspals. Hugs for everyone. smile moon

kittylester Thu 23-Mar-17 17:38:46

I've just popped out moan. I wasted an afternoon on a customer services course organised by the council for local community managed libraries. Talk about teaching grandmothers to suck eggs - and we mostly were grandmothers! Can't imagine how much it all flipping well cost in the local stately home, free tea and coffee and two facilitators. Apparently, it's a good idea to smile a lot!!!!

May I share your darkened room soop, my equilibrium needs recovery too! angry

Izabella Thu 23-Mar-17 17:21:40

A pleasant afternoon lifting and dividing snowdrops. Pricked out 6 lots of seedlings in the greenhouse, followed by a cuppa by the river surrounded by joyous birdsong and now wondering what to do for dinner to go with the freshly picked purple sprouting.

SO has just passed me with a hammer drill in his hand so had better see what he is up to.

soop look after that leg and NAG to get the tulle dressing with Inadine.

cornergran Thu 23-Mar-17 15:52:52

Good news about the room soop, enouragement to rest the leg maybe? If its no better next week maybe ask for the alternative recommended by Izabella.

Fingers crossed for your new flooring, Charley, its freezing here too, thought it was Spring now?

Couldn't help laughing at your weight muddle, greyduster pleased the second nurse was right. Good job we don't always believe them.

soop Thu 23-Mar-17 14:56:31

Boy oh boy! Our granddaughter managed to rearrange the hotel booking free of charge. I'm now going to lie down in a darkened room to recover my equilibrium, grin

soop Thu 23-Mar-17 13:47:07

Gaga A slippery bath can be lethal.shock I've a feeling that this problem of mine will take longer than I imagined to heal.

TriciaF I used to work in a pharmacy. Micropore was the dressing most often used for open wounds.

rosesarered Our kitchen needs no upkeep. It is virtually dust and clutter free. If only my own were so...wink

soop Thu 23-Mar-17 13:03:32

Hello lovely Granspals. Thank you all for your kind words. Izabella it is the cheap paste!

We have managed to get ourselves into a right guddle. It all started with two long, rambling emails from our lovely granddaughter whose wedding we'll be attending in Amsterdam. It involved change of venue and we spent an awful long time rebooking two rooms. Turns out we only needed to make a one room reservation as the second was okay. However, we paid for two nights and, cannot now unbook the second. Granddaughter is trying to get the guddle unravelled. MacSporran and I will possibly have to bite the bullet and pay for a room that we won't need. hmm

Charleygirl Thu 23-Mar-17 11:58:12

I returned from my hospital appointment to discover the house locked- no builders here. There is actually one, he had popped out to buy something and has started work again. Yesterday's lot had never been introduced to a hoover so I must do some of that.

I find it is cold here today and I cannot switch on the heating because the door is forever being opened.

The landing will have new flooring later this pm so I will not have to wear slippers going to the loo during the night. No more splinters on my delicate feet.

Greyduster Thu 23-Mar-17 10:34:52

soop the one leg raised painting suggestion from Izabella is not as daft as it sounds. There are people who paint just using their feet and even their mouths. They are better than I am with two hands! As for tying flies, I wouldn't go there. My fingers are getting so stiff these days that tying all but the larger hooks is a mare and many Frankenstein abominations have ensued. Oddly, the fish don't seem to mind them.

Izabella you are spot on about the CC. They don't seem to mess about and they are all lovely people. I hope you continue to benefit from their treatment. One funny thing yesterday - they routinely check your weight and BP and when I stood on the scales I asked the nurse if she could give me a note as my scales are suspect. She said I was thirteen stone two! I was gobsmacked as my scales always say just under ten. Anyway, she asked the other nurse if she had read the conversion chart properly and she hadn't. I am, in fact, ten stone four, fully dressed! Still too high but not as shocking! Phew!

rosesarered Thu 23-Mar-17 10:15:18

Congratulations Soop on your 1,000 th new kitchen ( must be close to that) grin
All white and gleaming, with an island in the centre with black marble top, very stylish.
Hope that we don't muck it all up, with our crumbs, coffee cup debris and muddy boots.Have brought some offerings, smile cafe cupcake ?☕️???

Izabella Thu 23-Mar-17 09:45:06

Just popping in. I have pages to catch up with one from the previous kitchen so apologies if I miss any condolences out for anyone.

soop that nurse needs some quality teaching about taking off stuck dressings and I assume they have put NAD's on now? Make sure they use the iodine impregnated gauze not the cheap tube of paste. You will have to push for that perhaps. The advice re leg elevation is sound though and tough though it seems I really think you should try to do it. One leg raised painting perhaps. You are so good at it!! The painting that is. Not sure about the leg raising. Or how about making flies?

greyduster yes thank heavens for the CC dental hospital. They are always on the ball. I am currently under their care too following the cycle crash incident earlier in the year. Most impressed. They also have excellent referral criteria so don't panic, they will get to the bottom of your white patch.

Beautiful sunny day here and a good weekend forecast. Off on the bike on Saturday and promising to be careful.

Herpling for whoever asked is walking with a limp. Not sure how I know that but I do. We use gentian violet on the hens if they have any bloody bits.

Greyduster Wed 22-Mar-17 22:08:50

The lady I saw today was a nice Irish dental consultant. I saw both her and one of her doctors in November and neither of them commented on this patch, and neither did my own dentist (who always has a very thorough look round) in December, so I am assuming it wasn't present then. I shall try not to think about it too much. I have to go back in a couple of weeks.

soop I am sorry to hear that your leg is taking its time to heal. Please do look after both it and yourself.

I have had enough excitement for today, so ?!

callgirl1 Wed 22-Mar-17 22:08:16

I remember when at infant and junior school, seeing some kids with purple faces, and being stupid and insensitive, as kids can be, we`d all shout "who`s got impetigo?" When my second daughter had very sore genitalia at only a few weeks, the nurse at the clinic daubed the offending area with Gentian Violet. I didn`t know it was banned now.
