Morning all!!

It's another wet and windy day here in Somerset !! The sun did shine on us yesterday so we visited the donkey sanctuary which was a marvellous day out!

Today everyone is a little grumpy and out of sorts !! A week is about my limit for biting my tongue . I cannot understand why the children are going to bed after me !! And that they are excused eating their meals but can tuck into cake and snacks till midnight.....but hey ho what do I know ??

I'm looking forward to getting home now . Sam has got a girlfriend so he's having a wonderful time.

Our internet is having more ups and downs than a 'tarts knickers' to quote Grampy !! So I feel soopss pain !!

Oh, n&g. Sympathy! That lip biting is so difficult isn't it! I was never so happy to get home as I was last week, driving alone, independent, listening to radio, talking to myself... bliss. Things are different now, I have to keep reminding myself. I love my 3 GC in manageable, bite-sized chunks. I'm seeing the littlest tomorrow for her swimming lesson and her boy cousin the day after while DD meets her friends and that will be lovely. Parting gift from GD2 last week was a dose of her bug which has given me a thick head and a thick chest. Will avoid the GP this time as the side effects of 3 meds were as bad as the bug itself last time (just a few weeks ago).
Off to the polling booth now. Worried about grandkids' future. I suppose we all are.

I've just realised that Kate ( my cleaner ) doesn't understand basic geometry. My bed is oblong! I have a new fitted sheet, also oblong. When I went to bed on Monday she'd put it on the wrong way round, hence it was fitting properly. When I tried to explain she just couldn't see what I meant even when I demonstrated with two pieces of paper.
She then said 'well what does it matter anyway'
IT MATTERS BECAUSE THE CORNER COMES ADRIFT IN THE NIGHT IF NOT PUT ON PROPERLY,
I've asked her husband Gary to explain it to her!

Not fitting properly

N&G Silly me thought that the parents of those children were sensible and did not allow their children to dictate what they wanted. A week is a very long time, but you will soon be home.

Cornergran also lives in Somerset and I have told her before that she should move because it always appears to be raining there. At least she can concentrate on housework this week and not worry about watering the garden! You will be pleased to return to normality soon.

The dogs appear to be having a very restful time and it is great that Sam has a new friend.

I have a postal vote which I must hand deliver to the local polling station. I made my decision re voting last night but I have never had such a struggle in my entire voting life. I doubt if I will be delirious with joy and laughter tomorrow whichever way it goes. I am staying well clear of other threads because some people are so nasty, folk like me are not entitled to opinions.

Galen same problem with DH. Him: "this quilt cover is too small - it must be a double, not a king size. The quilt won't fit." Me: "it won't if you don't match the long side of the quilt to the long side of the cover and not put it in sideways like you are trying to do!" Him: "Oh!"
N&G my sympathies with the weather - and the tongue biting. We've had holidays like that too. Last year was one, when I made up my mind that I would never go on holiday with DD again. I love her to distraction but on holiday she's a nightmare to one and all. She isn't like it at home. When my GS asked me last week why we don't go on holiday to Cornwall with them now, I didn't tell him a lie (I said the drive was too much for grandad) but I couldn't tell him the truth either. Anyway, at least your little ones look happy. That's always my priority as I'm sure it is yours.
I hope you shake the bug off soon, Bella. I think we all need some more sunshine.

Pause, if you will, in your thoughts about the GE for a moment please, (yes I have voted) as I have a question about duvet-wrestling. Does anyone else remember a tip for "anchoring" duvets within the cover involving treasury tags? A neighbour with a new slippery duvet is currently doubting my sanity & I'm sure you lot will bear me out!

I live in a marginal constituency and I have a postal vote. It took me until late last night to decode for whom to vote and then I took my postal vote to the local polling station this pm. The two at the entrance told me I was too late to vote and I told them I could hand in my postal voting form, it was the law. Neither had come across this before and in fairness I would normally have posted it over a week ago. Anyway after discussion I was allowed in and handed it over.

I will not be waiting up tonight because I have to be up early tomorrow to be ready for the painters and decorators.

It has just dried out here from earlier in the week, but looks like it is going to start raining again. Luckily my gardener has finished, but I don't think I can afford him every week and think that when the growth slows down it will have to be once a fortnight. I have found him a new customer though.

PoshGran Sorry I can't help re the wandering duvet. But what are you supposed to do with the treasury tags - poke them through the corners of the duvet and cover?

Poor Sam does not look 100% comfortable- Holly has taken up the comfortable rug so he is left with the hard floor.

there has been no rain my neck neck of London but it has been dull, cold and a bit windy.

Swanny, no poking involved! - sew a small loop in each of the 4 corners inside the cover, sufficiently big enough to wangle a treasury tag end through & hold in position. Sew one side of a treasury tag onto each corner of the duvet. When you put the duvet in you slide the free end of each treasury tag through each loop in the cover top, wiggle the rest of the cover down & secure tags at bottom corners. Treasury tags used to have metalled ends, now you can get them plastic so it doesn't matter washingwise whether you "tag" the duvet or the cover.

Having gone into this rigmarole, the use of treasury tags was how I first heard it described many years ago, but I'm sure buttons would work fine as well.

Changing duvet covers ought to be an Olympic sport, there are so many variations on a theme; turning the cover inside out before you start replacing it (or not), doing the job at the side or bottom of the bed, involving a "beautiful assistant" who can do it quicker/better/without such huffin' & puffin', optional arguments....

So is it just me who's heard about this method of taming wanderlust in duvets then?

Treasury tags? That's a blast from the past! Posh I kind of lost the will to live trying to work out how to do that! I am a bear of very little brain! And if DH had a 'beautiful assistant' we would never get the bed made, so he has to make do with me! Poor man!

I've got two treasury tags on the desk next to the computer. I've got a thing about stationery . I also like those metal things, the name of which escapes me [no, not paper clips, the bronze ones]. Answers on a postcard please [I love those as well]. An old boss of mine was the same; we used to fantasise about owning a stationery shop.....
