soop Tara is on a prescription diet, the same boring dry food for around 10 years for stomach problems but nothing is ever wasted, she loves it.

Poor Sam, he really should come to the home where he will be loved and cherished!!!! He is not going to be over excited with his new menu is he? It is so difficult because you end up with a cupboard full of food that he turns his nose up at.

Please get Grampy to watch his leg like a hawk because if he sees the redness creep up his leg, he then has developed Necrotising Fasciitis which is life threatening. It sounds as though he was seen by a sensible nurse but the antibiotics will not kick in for up to 48 hours.

N&G I laughed out loud at the thought of you and Grampy silently surveying Sam's 'healthy' dinner! Tell Sam he has my sympathy - I don't go in much for healthy dinners myself! Glad to hear Grampy's ailment is not serious and I hope yours doesn't develop into anything that can't be dealt with swiftly.

We heard yesterday that StepGrandson has achieved a First in his degree course. It reflects a lot of hard work on his part and his mother is so proud of him, as is my DS.
We have been garden bashing today (what Baggs would term "dragon slaying") - a pyracantha hedge was given a liberal haircut and fought back so that we had to have half a tube of Germolene each because neither of us had the sense to wear long sleeves! I also thought I would post a pic of this rose, which was in the garden before we came, but is so lovely and always healthy and prolific. I haven't the faintest idea what it is called.

They are in Tintwistle, gd, and love it there.

PS well done to your step-grandson! My niece passed her PhD viva the other day so of my sister's four kids, three of them now have PhDs. Yikes!

Yes I did Tizliz , there was a piece on arsenic in rice too on Trust Me I'm a Doctor . As Sams current issue seems to too much sugar from grains the canine nutritionist ( who knew there were such things) felt the new turkey and rice food to be a better option .

For those interested , we are doing a slow switch over to the new diet so his meal tonight was half little brown balls and half his current wet food.

Didn't touch the sides !! If there had been a pattern on the bowl he'd have licked that off too!!

In the face of the sickening tragedy in W London this morning, I for one, am thankful for small mercies. Hoping against hope that people are being brought out alive and that they can be given the help they need to rebuild their lives.

I woke up this morning thinking I had a cold or hay fever and started feeling a bit sorry for myself, then DH told me about the tragic London news and I thought of annsixty's thread.

I'm up for a group hug! There is so much bad news around at the moment.

I'm thinking of Ann too -she is very special to the kitchen and to most of us on GN.

On the bright side, Persie went to 'big' school on Monday afternoon and enjoyed it so much that she can't believe that she can't go again until September.

Unlike one of the little ones living around here who went to school for the first time last September, hated the first week and was horrified to learn that he had to go for a few weeks more! His parents could not tell him the number of years to be added on!

The hospitals, fire services and police must be nearly on their knees after all that has happened here in London recently. I do not want to go down the political route on this thread but maybe these services will be allocated more money to recruit much needed staff.

Morning all - quick pop in.
Have sweated in the garden this a.m. as antidote to latest awfulness from London. Trying to analyse feelings of anger at catastrophic event possibly caused by human omission versus a catastrohic event caused by human commission. Dreadful whichever, I feel heartsore.
A group ((hug)) is most certainly in order for events like these & those real difficulties of our daily lives.

Nellie I would quickly get rid of the frozen leg of lamb as that would be the only evidence required having seen so much blood in the kitchen. You are not out of the mire after you have attempted to clean it because with today's forensic tests, you will be quickly caught. Which prison would you like the food parcels to be sent? Would you like lamb sandwiches?

Sam update : Why on earth did we worry?? The trencherman of dogs tucked in oblivious to the reduction and change of type of food !! In his little world there's always the chance of a digestive biscuit( in his head anyway!!) and dinner turns up twice a day . He cleaned his bowl . So looks like we could feed him dead frogs and he'd tuck in !

Grampy's leg looks like it is responding to the treatment . So that's another plus - on a day when the worlds gone crazy again. I cannot watch the fire on the news. I know its wrong to bury my head in the sand but I don't have space for more sadness right now. You used the exact right word Posh - heartsore!

I agree Maw its a day for being grateful for small mercies . Most of us, even in the depths of personal issues can admire that one small daisy struggling through the weeds( oh that's my garden !!)

Glad to hear Persie ( I still love that name !!) Kitty enjoyed her try at big school. I remember when we broke it to Stevie not only did he have to go every day ....he had to go for at least the 13 years !!! He was horrified !!

Well, the sun is shining here so I'm going to take advantage of it and have a magnum for lunch in my rocking chair on the deck....:-)

When we lived in the Far East we lived on the 12th floor of a very nice apartment block. There were six more floors above us. Twice a year we had a fire drill, when we had to evacuate down two stair wells on either side of the lift shaft. It was a laborious process and none of us was in a panic - it was a drill, after all. But I wasn't the only one who wondered what it would be like in a real situation, if people did panic and everyone was trying to get down as fast as they could, especially if the emergency services were trying to get up as we were coming down! We tried not to think about it too much. After nine eleven I never thought I would see anything like that again. I can't get this out of my head.

I've returned from a mega ironing duty. Throughout which, my pal had her television tuned in to the unfolding disaster in London. One person being interviewed was witness to a baby being thrown from a window on the seventh floor, and being caught by someone in the crowd. That same person then said...the look on the face of the person trapped in the flat, was that of "death". Those words, and the thought of the person who couldn't escape, have haunted me ever since.

soop, the news does make for grim viewing doesn't it. Utterly heartbreaking, especially if it is true that nobody from the top three floors is thought to have made it out.

Truly terrible news. Feel very flat today. Off to take our girls to their swimming lessons. Hmm. Wonder if the cafe sells ice cream. Take care all.
