Soop's kitchen for friendly folk and precious pets...

I posted this morning, sharing the sadness and horror expressed about the London fire.
My post disappeared, I wonder if it was wearing MawBroon's invisibility cloak like me. I had a lovely couple of hours this afternoon, being reminded/taught how to crochet. My crochet expert is someone I met a couple of years ago, walking our assorted dogs. I'm about to have a practice.
We do have to enjoy the small things to help us through recent horrors x

We went to pick up GS from school this afternoon, even though DD was home from work and we didn't have to. It cheered us both up. We took GS and his friend to the park and played cricket and ate ice cream. It was fun. You feel guilty for having fun when so many people will never have fun again.
DD was telling me she did her first fell run yesterday across the local moorland, running through streams and 'stinky bogs'. This is my daughter, who is OCD about cleanliness and as a child would wail if she got even a bit of dirt on her hands! There's no accounting for folk! Wish I'd been there with a camera!

Fourteen of us around our Bitch & Stitch Craft & Chat table this afternoon; we spoke of marmalade cake, Rhine cruises, imminent arrivals & moves, garden life, local gossip & issues, on-line shopping, & sunshine. We knitted, cross-stitched, rag-rugged (no-one crocheting this week Iam) drank tea, laughed, & probably by mutual unspoken agreement, kept the world outside for two hours.
(Apart from Poldark - which I didn't watch!)

Oh dear, what I have written on another post could be construed as rudeness. I will probably be behind my sofa tomorrow if I am not posting here. Rory will understand and enjoy the cuddles- Tara is not home yet and I will be going to bed to read quite shortly.

Even if you avoid the politics threads like the plague , can I direct you to one I have started with some smiley faces on it?

I do love waking up to a blue sky morning ! Makes everything look a little brighter !

Sam disgraced himself this morning with an upset tummy on the kitchen floor ! I think its probably the change in food so no cross words were spoken as its not his fault.

We have Cooper for a sleepover today and we will be picking him up after lunch from pre school. Of all of our 4 he is the only one who insists Grampy picks him up . He is his little shadow ! So we shall be spending the afternoon in the garden where he and Grampy will dig holes for no good reason then fill them in again !!

Then its getting ready for a trip to Scotland on Sunday to see my sister for a week. They have taken early retirement and moved from Aberdeen down to near Fife I think it is but its only temporary as they are moving to Spain for 11 months in August. It has always been there dream to live there and they have taken language lessons etc for years . I'm happy and sad for them as Id hoped to see them more but now that seems unlikely as I suspect they will love it and never come home again to live. So we'll make the most of our week together.

am fed up this morning, and wondering if Gransnet is still for me. It seems that almost every thread, of whatever demeanour, is being turned on its head by those who have a particular political point to make. As their politics are completely at odds with mine and I know from experience I would be mauled beyond recognition if I joined in, it feels like being painted into a corner. As if that wasn't bad enough, I have it at home too; even if you say it looks like rain, DH can't resist finding some reason to blame the politics of those he finds most odious. I'm a peaceable sort of old gal, and I can't bear it. Please ignore this post. I am sounding off and I know I have broken the rules and this is not the place to do it, but being a craven coward I don't want to start my own thread - I know how it will end up!

Grey do NOT be apologising here !! THAT is unacceptable. The kitchen is exactly the place to sound off !! I feel a little like you , it's not that I can't argue my case but I don't need the grief ! The 'steam rollering' over every word not to the 'political posters ' way of thinking.

AND then there is the plethora of games , most of which I don't get lol !!

I rarely read the political threads, the level,of unpleasantness isn't necessary. It's a shame because I had hoped to be educated a bit. I don't have a thick skin, I'm with n&g, don't particularly want one. Don't give up on us greyduster, you aren't alone. Keep sounding off if it helps. Surely the tendency to turn everything into a political war must run its course? Photos later will cheer us all up . Take care everyone, we have sunshine after a cloudy start and I'm off out to enjoy a coffee with a new friend.

Sorry, I seem to have added to the political tomfoolery controversy albeit unwittingly.
Oh dear. Heigh ho.
Feeling very emotional today as deep down I would have liked to be "home" in the Borders today to say goodbye to my dear aunt, but the logistics were too much for me at the moment. It is compounded by Fathers Day this weekend and the annual Selkirk Common Riding tomorrow , our town's festival where the Riding of the Marches (town land) has gone on unbroken for 500 years.
But that was then and this is now, so buck up.

Well, I have to turn up a new pair of trousers and am putting it off - two layers of course and about a foot too long, although I don't think I am that short!
At least they are straight-legged so should be no problem

We can't always be where we want to be, go where we want to go but I'm sure you will be there in spirit to say goodbye to your aunt and the family will realise that.
