Hello!

<pokes head over political threads parapet to assess whether or not it's safe to tie up the last of the (apolitical) bunting>...

in preparation for....

..our very own Gransnet Great Get Together! This Sunday 18th June around midday we will be taking part in the nationwide celebrations, in honour of the late Jo Cox and her belief that we have #MoreInCommon.

We would like to invite you all to bring your own Pimms or tipple of choice and a plate of virtual goodies and come join the fun. If you’re up to baking, we’ve got some tasty recipe ideas…

We’ll be giving away spot PRIZES and sharing silly gifs. We invite you all to share a joke, a funny or heartwarming story or just let us know what you’re up to.

If you prefer to meet up with people nearby in real life there’s plenty happening nationwide. You can check out a local Great Get Together here. Or check out your Gransnet Local page to see if anything’s been organised by a local editor.

There’s been so much sadness in recent weeks and this is the perfect opportunity to show our support for each other and our communities. We hope to see you here on Sunday - bunting lovers or not. grin

Don't know Pittcity - Gangnam Style (obviously, bravo those gents), Spinnin'Around for Kevin Bacon (not content with a certain TV ad, poor lad's been doing it since LaraGNHQ put the party advert up- let him have a rest!)

Grab a DJ from somewhere or put Gold on the radio? I daresay we'll start singing later.

So this lorry full of tortoises collided with a van full of terrapins.....it was a turtle disaster!
(Thanks again TVine)

annemac101 Sun 18-Jun-17 14:49:18

Just wondering if there's any prosecco left? Packing our cases for holidays on Wednesday and could do with a drink after all that ironing.

Pittcity Sun 18-Jun-17 15:07:40

I'll pop a strawberry in a nice cold one for you annemac

newnanny Sun 18-Jun-17 15:23:13

Good to see all political parties are having fun Pittcity. I have had an unexpected visit from my DD SiL and DGS who I don't see very often due to distance. Double celebrations!

kittylester Sun 18-Jun-17 15:26:26

OK, I have home made GLUTEN FREE chocolate eclairs, mini quiches, cheese scones and nice brown bread if anyone wants to make GF sandwiches. I AM showing off because I'm so chuffed with myself. Now, may I have a prosecco? wine

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 18-Jun-17 16:05:44

Cool...

Grannyknot Sun 18-Jun-17 16:06:35

I fell asleep due to sunshine and a glass of wine at lunch time. Is the party still on?

Maggiemaybe Sun 18-Jun-17 16:08:14

I'm popping in from our family Father's Day party up the road. Sorry about the noise - the kids are high on sunshine and adrenalin and the grown-ups on curry and beer.

Definitely Ann60 for the kindness prize. smile

Maggiemaybe Sun 18-Jun-17 16:09:36

I've got leftover saag paneer and daal and a pile of dried up chapatis if anybody's still hungry?

Chewbacca Sun 18-Jun-17 16:12:18

Please Maggie, I haven't eaten all day, it's so hot, but that sounds delish! Will there be enough for seconds?

Pittcity Sun 18-Jun-17 16:33:53

We've got home grown courgettes and mange tout. The chicken's in the oven.
Music and chatter in every neighbouring garden.
Cheers! ?

Maggiemaybe Sun 18-Jun-17 16:34:27

Oh yes. there's loads. I've found a couple of kebabs as well, to keep you going. And there's a few kulfi lollies for afters.

Music? Did our string quartet not turn up?!

Loved reading about all the kindnesses - but it seems that everyone is in agreement that AnnSixty should receive our first prize of the day. And so she shall

Onwards to prize number two - more lovely books... seems appropriate to be discussing cake - well it is a party. So tell us your favourite and why and later on we will pop all the answers in our party hat and pull out a winner.

I'm voting ice cream cake today

Chewbacca Sun 18-Jun-17 16:50:12

Many congratulations Annsixty , very well deserved.

annsixty Sun 18-Jun-17 17:06:19

Thank you all so much. I am overwhelmed by your very kind thoughts.
Isn't it a scorcher in the best traditions of the tabloids, but a wonderful day for our big get together.

Cherrytree59 Sun 18-Jun-17 17:10:42

Congratulations Ann
Well deserved. wineflowers

PoshGran Sun 18-Jun-17 17:11:46

Spicy joke:
Did you hear about the man who overdosed on curry powder?
He went into a korma!
(Thanks unknown)

Hope everyone is enjoying this glorious day, with family & friends, or with smile-making thoughts of them.

Drinking tea at moment but eyeing up the Pimms......
grin

PoshGran Sun 18-Jun-17 17:13:37

Yay, Ann ! wine flowers

Heather51 Sun 18-Jun-17 17:14:19

My favourite is not strictly a cake but is a ginger cheesecake. I have to make this every time any of the family visit. I decorate the top with pineapple pieces but younger son doesn't like pineapple and always scrapes it off his portion. So once I used chopped nuts instead and was hauled over the coals for changing it.

"But you don't like pineapple"

"I know, but it's not your ginger cheesecake without the pineapple!"

Did you say string quartet Cari - that wouldn't be the four 'ladies' who tried Wilmaknickersfit's concoction cocktail on the way in and are now flat out under the table clutching some odd shaped cases?

Brilliant party everyone, really entertaining.

Cherrytree59 Sun 18-Jun-17 17:15:18

Chocolate Dinosaur Cake.
(as requested by DGS for his July birthday)smile

annodomini Sun 18-Jun-17 17:19:04

Only just realised that this party was happening. Prosecco, anyone? I have a courgette and lemon cake which isn't as disgusting as it sounds!
