Hello!

<pokes head over political threads parapet to assess whether or not it's safe to tie up the last of the (apolitical) bunting>...

in preparation for....

..our very own Gransnet Great Get Together! This Sunday 18th June around midday we will be taking part in the nationwide celebrations, in honour of the late Jo Cox and her belief that we have #MoreInCommon.

We would like to invite you all to bring your own Pimms or tipple of choice and a plate of virtual goodies and come join the fun. If you’re up to baking, we’ve got some tasty recipe ideas…

We’ll be giving away spot PRIZES and sharing silly gifs. We invite you all to share a joke, a funny or heartwarming story or just let us know what you’re up to.

If you prefer to meet up with people nearby in real life there’s plenty happening nationwide. You can check out a local Great Get Together here. Or check out your Gransnet Local page to see if anything’s been organised by a local editor.

There’s been so much sadness in recent weeks and this is the perfect opportunity to show our support for each other and our communities. We hope to see you here on Sunday - bunting lovers or not. grin

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 18-Jun-17 18:01:52

MMMMMMMM to all of the above

and re the quartet - well I had a closer look and I did hear some hiccups coming from under the table so you may well have solved the mystery

NfkDumpling Sun 18-Jun-17 18:02:34

Oh, that jelly looks wonderful, may I have a small slice? I'm still stuffed from the Father's Day dinner last night but that looks too good to miss. I've brought some profiteroles but the chocolate has melted and run underneath. Anyone wanting some will need a spoon.

gillyknits Sun 18-Jun-17 18:20:22

Oh how I miss my Mum's chocolate eclairs, wish she was still here to make them.

PoshGran Sun 18-Jun-17 18:24:52

Favourite cake? My Tipsy Ginger Cake - which is a pudding - sorry no photo as haven't made one for a while, but thought this special day deserved a special virtual "cake".

Well, here you are, if you insist, another joke, of the real cake variety...
Once a year my village holds a market for the locals to share their wares. I baked a couple of cakes to flog - one was priced at a pound & the other a fiver. A man stopped at my stall & looked at the cakes before pointing at the one costing a fiver & asked "What type of cake is that then?". I replied "That's Madiera cake!"
(Thanks HaHas)

Shall I go now ? hmm

Chewbacca Sun 18-Jun-17 18:34:06

Carigransnet my favourite cake is, without doubt lemon drizzle cake. (Preferably sharp and zingy!)

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 18-Jun-17 19:00:54

Took me a minute to get the joke PoshGran grin

Might take me a while to choose my favourite cake... blush

Grannyknot Sun 18-Jun-17 19:11:33

rosesarered Sun 18-Jun-17 19:36:41

00mam00 Sun 18-Jun-17 19:41:31

Well 'er in black trousers looks a bit of a goer.

I'll pass on the cat's arse cake thank you.

ElroodFan Sun 18-Jun-17 19:42:50

Only got this thread today. Sometime after midday because I got a posting this morning which made no mention of it . Why post so late.

annsixty Sun 18-Jun-17 19:46:51

How wonderful it is that we are still able to be outside.
For us in the north it is almost unknown.
Might there be fireworks later on?
That would be the perfect end to a perfect day

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 18-Jun-17 20:07:56

Missed the party?! Why the sun is barely over the yard arm so we are breaking out the booze for a knees up. Stay!!

Meanwhile our cake winner drawn at random is Chewbacca

We will be in touch in the morning. And - hey - one more prize. This time tell us your three favourite things about parties. We will draw a winner at random at 9ish!

jojojo Sun 18-Jun-17 20:12:37

Oh, I missed this due to visiting son and family this weekend. Lovely time with DGD & DGS though on beach and with paddling pool in garden.
I'm very hot after long journey back and air con in car has chosen now to break down grrr!
I could whip up some of my Dear Mum's chocolate cherry and coconut slices though, if anyone still has room?

Chewbacca Sun 18-Jun-17 20:14:25

Me? I've won a prize? Flippineck! Thank you very much indeed. much chuffed

rosesarered Sun 18-Jun-17 20:16:33

3 fave things about parties?
Fun, booze and friends .smile

PoshGran Sun 18-Jun-17 20:17:43

Yay, Chewbacca ! wine & cupcake

rosesarered Sun 18-Jun-17 20:17:53

Is there any iced Pimms going?

Pittcity Sun 18-Jun-17 20:19:51

I just bought a litre of Tippex. Big mistake!

Chewbacca Sun 18-Jun-17 20:23:48

roses, is it a coincidence that you've just staggered out of the Argy Bargy Bar, having demanded a triple brandy over ice and now your at a genteel garden party and your on iced Pimms? Where will you be going after this, may I ask? grin

Grannyknot Sun 18-Jun-17 20:23:53

Three favourite things - the food, the company - and the post mortem! grin
