Here we go again...

MawBroon Wed 16-Aug-17 18:24:52

Paw was looking and sounding much more like himself again today smile
We had a meeting with the Palliative Care consultant and she was very helpful and encouraging. DD1 had arranged this through a mutual friend and at first I thought it was going to seriously backfire as she popped in to see him on his own yesterday and he greeted me yesterday evening with
"A nice lady has been to see me to discuss the Liverpool Care Pathway"!!
???
I was horrified as he had clearly got the wrong end of the stick but I hated the thought that he might have been thinking that applied to him.
Cue an explanation of the difference between End of Life Care and Palliative.

Today went much better and he was thinking and speaking clearly - huge relief. There are moments though when his face "slips" and he looks a bit lost and very fragile, but I think that might be exhaustion .
So onwards and (hopefully) upwards.
Just to add, s in law took Hattie fir a walk and the lead slipped through her fingers just at our village green (3 roads) but bless her, she came right back.
Actually I wish I had not known anything about the incident!!

moomin Wed 16-Aug-17 19:44:29

Sounds really encouraging Maw I hope that's lifted a little weight from your shoulders. Good girl Hattie, she knows which side her bread is buttered ?

annsixty Wed 16-Aug-17 19:57:42

Oh Maw being absolutely honest you have a long way to go and I wish you so very well with it. Paw was obviously not ready for discharge and I hope so very much that you insist that that does not happen again.
Sorry to seem so hard but I am trying to be realistic and honest and not saying what you want to hear.
I am facing up to my own reality and situation which will come to a head in the future

annsixty Wed 16-Aug-17 20:00:09

I do hope I haven't painted too bad a picture. I am over thinking my own situation and future..

Tizliz Wed 16-Aug-17 20:01:46

baggs I have a duck with a rifle tucked under his wing.

Crafting Wed 16-Aug-17 20:03:49

maw glad to hear paw more like himself and speaking more clearly. Hospital stays sometimes have a strange impact on people and they don't sound or behave quite as they would do at home.

My DH was in hospital via A&E for a few hours recently and people kept telling him he looked really poorly which he did. He wasn't feeling great poor man and looked grey and fragile. However, as soon as he started to feel better his appearance improved a lot. Wishing you and paw a good night's sleep and ongoing improvement.

Crafting Wed 16-Aug-17 20:04:52

ann so sorry for the tough time you are going through at the moment. flowers

cornergran Wed 16-Aug-17 20:56:55

Some positives there, maw. Hope there is more progress tomorrow. Sleep well.

callgirl1 Wed 16-Aug-17 22:49:00

Sounding better Maw x

morethan2 Thu 17-Aug-17 08:27:57

annsixty I just want to send you a (((hug))) your always so kind even though your having such a difficult heartbreaking time. I hardly dare to imagine how I'd cope if my kind supportive (not perfect) husband changed before my eyes. We watched in horror as that happened to his mother. I've always thought we would walk through life together till the very end. Him and me sheltering each other from all the troubles of the world. I've learnt that life's just not like that and that's an incredibly scary thought. I hope things improve for paw and you take care Maw I've got my three grandchildren today so amid the noise and mess I'll count my blessing and hold them a bit closer. flowers for all facing sadness.

NanaandGrampy Thu 17-Aug-17 08:34:16

Morning all !

Its a grey and grizzly start to the day here .

Great news Maw , lets hope for small improvements daily. You must be heaving a small sigh of relief .

I watched the beautiful new Queen Elizabeth's arrival Gaga , as a Pompey girl myself I spent many a time watching my Dads ships coming or going. Certainly brought back some memories.

Wonderful photo morethan what a wonderful little smile and so proud of that missing tooth!!

We often go on 'bear hunts ' in the woods Grey , one of these days we'll catch one ! Get back down to that stream when DH isn't looking and float your duck . Those are things that make life worth living smile

That's an impressive collection of ducks Baggs your local preschool would probably love them for water play days.

We are off for a late lunch out and then to the cinema later. Its a real delight to go during the day and as we have chosen an unkid friendly film I'm hopeful it wont be packed.

Then its time to buys snacks and treats as we have invited Jackson for a sleepover tomorrow. He and his brother have proved to be sparring partners this week. They are bored and ( I suspect over tired) so have been bashing each other at every opportunity.

Add to that some very hit and miss potty training with young Cooper , according to Mummy they have had their favourite things removed every day for naughtiness ( to no effect it would appear!!)

Mummy has had enough so Nana is going to have a quiet word with young Master Jackson about gentle hands and listening to Mummy. Of course that will all come to nothing the next time Cooper socks him one !

Ah the joys of little boys !!

Greyduster Thu 17-Aug-17 09:27:01

Ah, the duck! As Ann says, N&G, I am not enough of a rebel. I haven't even got a bath to float him in now, so he will be permanently marooned on a shelf!
I know your DD must find it wearing when the boys are fighting, but it is an important part their sibling development. (My sister had five boys and they were always rolling round on the floor punching each other's light out!). She will, however, I am sure, appreciate the addition of Nanny's gentle censure. I had to step in and show the finger (that is usually all it takes) at GS on Tuesday for an uncharacteristic rude remark to his mother. He is starting to flex his muscles a little lately.
Very pleased to hear that Paw is making some progress. Long may it continue.

NanaandGrampy Thu 17-Aug-17 09:29:36

I love that a finger does the trick Grey! My daughters know I have the 'look' which only brave men challenge ! And a single quiet word from Grampy has the little ones lined up like the Von Trapp children !!

Ah the power !!

Greyduster Thu 17-Aug-17 10:40:42

It still works on DS and he's fifty!!

Baggs Thu 17-Aug-17 11:10:46

Fourteen or fifteen years after these were taken, Minibaggs got 100% in her Higher Art exam which included art appreciation by famous artists as well as her own artwork.

grannyqueenie Thu 17-Aug-17 11:53:00

Not enough time for a proper post but just want to say congratulations to minibaggs, bet you're glad all those days of washing mucky paint pots has paid off at last baggs grin

Elegran Thu 17-Aug-17 12:53:44

I love the artist's hat.

Charleygirl Thu 17-Aug-17 13:03:10

Baggs another pretty little girl- definitely has the brains in the family as she is left handed.

A beautiful day here in London. Another hour before my Morrisons delivery arrives.

Very good news Maw- it would be good to discover what caused this latest problem. I hope that Hattie is okay and has settled down.

With luck Rory will be able to sun himself outdoors today, if not a quiet snooze indoors dreaming of chicken fillets for supper and he will be purring.

soop Thu 17-Aug-17 13:19:42

I dare not leave my visit as late as I did yesterday. 'You lot' have far too much going on and I'm catch-up time is precious.

Maw Big sigh of relief...all positives gratefully received. First thing each morning I think...wonder how Paw is today.

I loved your amusing post. You have a way with words. Perhaps you should write a book in between all the other stuff you attend to in a very long day wink

morethan2 Your message had me nodding away to myself. It was written from the heart. sunshine

Well done, and congratulations to MiniBaggs The photographs are lovely. Like her Mum, she's a very pretty lassie.

An interesting sky last night. Huge black clouds. Patches of clear sky and a lovely, soft light.

harrigran Thu 17-Aug-17 13:25:07

Well done to Minibaggs, great achievement.

Charleygirl Thu 17-Aug-17 13:29:13

Baggs Congratulations to minibaggs- she did so well.

kittylester Thu 17-Aug-17 13:52:49

Well done to minibags - can I buy something now as an investment for when she's famous!

MawBroon Thu 17-Aug-17 14:11:21

Well done minibaggs of course the talent was obvious at the outset!
Paw is feeling very lacklustre today, the Scots among you will recognise the term "wabbit"(sp?)
I know he isn't sleeping well but his energy levels, low anyway, have plummeted again sad]
That's the way it goes though, better days and worser days.
Against my better judgement I agreed for sis in law to take Hattie for another walk. If you don't have a sighthound you may be wondering what I am worrying about, but "recall" is not a concept they are familiar with.
Sorry Paw has not managed to consolidate yesterday's progress, still quite deep,in the woods I fear.
Anybody affected by A level results today? I am SO glad those days are behind us with the DDs and yet to come with the DGCs. I was a nervous wreck every time.

Greyduster Thu 17-Aug-17 14:11:44

Well done Minibaggs! Hope it is the start of wonderful things to come.
Soop that is a very dramatic sky - hope it didn't herald any cataclysmic weather!!

Greyduster Thu 17-Aug-17 14:14:12

Take heart Maw - no-one stays in the woods forever; he's just taking his time finding the right path home.
