My point to a stroppy HCA who snapped "I'm busy" when I asked if she (or somebody ) could get a commode along to paw suffering from "dire rear", who was not allowed out of his isolation room to use a ward loo, was precisely the opposite. I retorted that it would be infinitely quicker to wheel the commode out to him than to clean him up because it was too late!
I didn't wait for her reply.

NfkDumpling Mon 04-Sept-17 08:46:21

I haven't been snooping around the kitchen for a while but just heard the bad news about Rory, so calling in to give a quick virtual (((hug))). RIP Rory.

Lona Mon 04-Sept-17 09:02:38

soop Your sadness must be overwhelming you both today. My love, and hugs too, remember the good times ? that you three shared.

kittylester Mon 04-Sept-17 09:08:05

Hugs from me too today, Soop and MacS - I'll be thinking about you as I go about my day. flowers

dustyangel Mon 04-Sept-17 09:15:12

Me too soop x.

MawBroon Mon 04-Sept-17 09:21:59

My thoughts are with you too.
I found making "the decision* harder than the final goodbye, by that time I knew I was offering Grace the kindest thing I could and I knew she trusted me not to let her suffer any more. flowers

Morning all,

I shan't stay long as I have caught a cough and cold !! Lovely- just what I needed !!

I'm thinking of you today also soop and Macs , but take comfort in although it breaks your heart it is the right choice for your beloved Rory.

Maw I'm horrified by tales from the hospital !! Growing old and getting sick is not for the weak eh?

I got a flying visit last night from young Jackson who could not contain his delight and excitement at 'THE BEST DAY EVER' !! Had to post a couple of pictures to share. He is now torn between purchasing the Bugatti Chiron and a McLaren !!

Ill be back later !

Charleygirl Mon 04-Sept-17 10:16:34

N&G if he is torn between the two, it would be simpler to buy both surely?!!! I was aware that you wanted to sell your house but that money was going towards buying another, not supplying young man Jackson with his classic cars.

soop much love to all three of you today.

MawBroon Mon 04-Sept-17 10:34:56

OK so looks as if Paw will NOT be coming home today.
Although yesterday's blood test showed he needs blood (his Hb is at a level which would normally automatically generate a 2 unit transfusion) the duty Dr was "not prepared to authorise" as it was not perceived as being at a "dangerous" level. I was told they will "monitor" (what exactly?) and review/transfuse today so likely to be Tuesday now.
That was why I tried to set things in motion on Friday.
To say I am p* sed off is an understatement but I do want him to be as well as possible so what is another 24 hours - I am trying to choose my battles. So another day to get my domestic ducks in a row.
There's worse going on out in the world there isn't there?

Gagagran Mon 04-Sept-17 10:37:13

I woke up thinking of soop, MacS and Rory today and then a line from Macbeth came into my head:

"if it were done, twere well it were done quickly"

I hope that is the case today - if it has to be done. Who knows - the vet may have another trick up his sleeve to buy a little more time.

Sending warmest wishes and love to you today, whatever the outcome.

NanaandGrampy Mon 04-Sept-17 10:40:32

Charley that young man had best get saving, that's all I can say !!

Now that's a buggeration Maw but best Paw is the best he can be so another day is just 24 hours x

I like your Macbeth quote Gaga it's very apt to so many things .

Bellanonna Mon 04-Sept-17 10:47:11

Well said Gaga

Charleygirl Mon 04-Sept-17 11:12:41

N&G at today's prices young Jackson will be lucky if he can save for a bike! He has possibly forgotten or does not realise the small matters of the cost of driving lessons, car insurance and petrol. Still, we must allow him his dreams!

Maw I do not know what to say about that place. Few appear to know what they are doing or care.

I strongly suspect that the duty doctor started his first proper job after 5 years at university on the 1st August this year so he will not have the knowledge re Paw's multiple conditions/problems but he should be able to ask a senior's advice.

soop Mon 04-Sept-17 12:01:23

Rory is still with us. He's sleeping soundly on the big cushion on the kitchen floor.
I shall bring you all up to date. You deserve real flowers for your lovely, kind messages. They mean a lot to both MacSporran and me.
He is most definitely "fading" BUT he managed a circuit of the garden with MacS earlier today. Something he hasn't done in a while. His back quarter is weak and wobbly but it didn't stop him trying to crawl under the barrier at the entrance to the drive. MacS has since re-enforced the barrier.
It took a long time to wander alongside MacS and he ate a small breakfast when he came into the house. MacS was greatly cheered and asked if we could not call the vet today. Naturally, we do not want Rory to suffer unnecessarily. That would be selfish in the extreme. At the moment, Rory is fast asleep on his giant cushion inside the house. We'll continue to look after him and, hope that he'll die peacefully. The vet will be called should he show signs of distress.
Thank you for listening to my rambling update. I promise to keep quiet on the subject and I shall now read all your messages.

Charleygirl Mon 04-Sept-17 12:09:01

That handsome boy is sleeping peacefully and I am delighted to hear that he managed, albeit slowly a trip around the garden. I think that you just have to take it day by day, He is obviously not giving up yet. There is more lovely food for him to enjoy for starters + the cuddles and fuss.

soop Mon 04-Sept-17 12:32:20

Maw I greatly admire your fortitude. Talk about buggerations galore! Your dear husband and you both deserve a restful break away from commodes and over-tired staff. My thoughts continue to be with you during these trying times.

N&G Jackson has extraordinary expensive good taste. He appears to be practicing his pose, in readiness for the day when he owns something similar! That would most certainly be THE BEST DAY EVER!

MiceElf Mon 04-Sept-17 12:44:06

Soop, I almost never post here now, but Rory is one special cat. His latter days sound very much like my late puss whose picture you painted. She curled up in her basket one night and forgot to wake up in the morning; an easy passing. I hope it's the same for Soop erpuss. X

soop Mon 04-Sept-17 12:51:59

*
MicesElf* Your message had me nodding in total agreement. Should Rory die in the way your own cat did, it would be such a huge relief. We would celebrate with a wee dram. Thank you.

MawBroon Mon 04-Sept-17 12:53:34

I have to smile Soop! Talk about 9 lives!
Grace too had a "reprieve" the first time I called the vet out, heart in mouth, having cried all night.
She greeted the vet with a waggy tail and hopped out into the garden like a young 'un!
You will know when the time is right and if it is not now, enjoy him while you can.

Bellanonna Mon 04-Sept-17 12:58:37

Soop??

wot Mon 04-Sept-17 13:04:23

Soop, sending you, McSporran and Rory much love and thinking of you often xxxx

soop Mon 04-Sept-17 13:13:47

grin wink This is how I'm feeling right now. What a difference a day makes!

Charleygirl Mon 04-Sept-17 13:18:42

He is quietly using up his 9 lives. He knows where he is best cared for. Still a very stressful time for yourself and MacSporran because the end result will not change. Just give him strokes and cuddles to remind him he is well loved.

downsized Mon 04-Sept-17 13:32:28

Just stuck my nose in to see what news there is of Rory. I'm glad he is still in his rightful place on his cushion.

Afraid I am feeling very sad as my dear school friend, with whom I recently spent three weeks in Chester, died this morning at 9.30, peacefully in her own home. I knew it was coming and I ought to be more prepared, but I'm devastated . We have been like sisters to each other since our first day at 'senior school' fifty years ago, and I shall miss her more than words can say. Her family are very much in my thoughts today as they face the future without her.

Bellanonna Mon 04-Sept-17 13:49:10

Bellasnana/downsized, I'm so sorry to read about your sad news. Schoolfriends go back such a long way and are a big part of our lives. She should have had many more years of living.
Condolences. X
