That's one happy birthday boy. Eight is a wonderful age to be. A very happy birthday to him. Maybe a belated celebration with you when the bugs have packed their bags and gone.

Mr C also takes to his bed when unwell, he sleeps until germs are so bored they leave voluntarily. All I need to do is make sure he keeps the liquids going and provide endless food - never loses his appetite. How do men do that? Just as well really as my nursing skills are shall we say, well, minimal. It's a wonder he survives really.

Well I did try Corner . After the pharmacist refused to sell me a bottle of cough medicine for my own good apparently, I tried to make an apt and they offered me the 25th !!

I can ring tomorrow at 8am and hang on the phone for 40 mins while they try again..... do you remember the days when you ALWAYS got a same day apt and good grief the doctor came to visit ????

I'm just going to drown my sorrows in a bar of chocolate !!

That is the system here N&G, start dialling at 7:58, someone has beaten you to it. Ring constantly until 8:25, to be told all the appt have gone. On day 3 you may win the jackpot and be offered a Nurse Practioner. We have about 4 of those of varying degrees of competency. One has to keep going " to consult a colleague " and she has to get scripts signed by a Dr. I once spent 45 mins with her.

Can you tell I am not at my best today? ?

Our system is equally cr*p but the saving grace is if you go online ostensibly at 8 am there will be appointments released for that day.
I go on about 7.30 and TAKE ONE- any one!!

So sorry that you are still suffering N&G. When I was feeling as you do, some two years ago, it ended with me in hospital with pneumonia. Please, do take yourself to see the GP if your condition worsens.

An update for you lot. I shall not be sharing further news of Rory on FB until I have to.
He's definitely on the last lap of his life span. He had some difficulty getting off his cushion earlier today. He also made very little inroad into his breakfast. And then he wandered outside to check for intruders. MacSporran watched through the window. Rory did the rounds...taking his time to do so. He then marked his territory, wandered back indoors and ate more breakfast. He's slept in his cat cave and been in for lunch. He's now sleeping soundly on his cushion. MacSporran had entertained the thought of calling the vet when Rory appeared to be unable to rise from his cushion on waking this morning. He says that he's now convinced that Rory is still enjoying his days, albeit at a very much impaired pace. He will therefore remain behind when I visit family. He'll meet me off the train when I return. MacSporran also asked if I was happy for him to take Rory back into the forest, after he dies. He wishes him to return to the place where he was born. He'll make a bed for him of ferns and such, and leave the rest to Mother Nature. We think alike. I'm in total agreement.

I shall now do my best to catch up with all your news.

I think that it is all over. I have to jump in my car and be at the surgery as the door opens. That is fine now but in the very near future I will not be able to drive so I have no idea what will happen then.

soop I am so sorry to hear that young man is struggling yet again. He is making the most of whatever little time he has left. He has kept me amused for years, bless him. I am nearly in tears as type this but I am a soppy old git.

I rang the vet surgery this am to make an appointment for Tara's annual check up and vaccination. I decided on Saturday early am as I would be able to keep madam in and the road, although busy, would not have 50 million people going to work and the children going to school. It will not be her usual vet but she is not fussy who she claws and bites if the need arises.

We went to Torcello today by private launch nb launch not water taxi. Had lunch at Ciprianis and then went to see the mosaics at St Maria d'assumpta. The one of the Madonna is so beautiful it always makes me cry!

So sorry to hear about Rory soop I had high hopes that he would continue to rally. I'm sorry MacS will miss the gathering but I think it would prey on his mind if he were to go.

I hope Rory's days are mellow and filled with dreams of his younger days xx

We have a visiting and heavily pregnant kitty who seems to live beside our little terrace. She's heavily pregnant, very vocal and a wee bit grumpy, but in her condition and with this climate I don't blame her.one bit!

I`m so sorry that all the poorly people are still poorly. N & G, I do hope that you manage an appointment, do you have the sit and wait option at your surgery? I hate just sitting there, wondering just when they`ll fit me in, but sometimes (most times) it`s the only option at our surgery.
Soop, I`m sorry that Rory seems to be going downhill again, you must be so sad, but I think that what MacSporran is going to do is a beautiful thing, and would meet with Rory`s approval.

That sounds a thoughtful and loving plan, soop, but oh so sad. Had a tear in my eye reading it.

We have friends in another part of the UK with an old fashioned surgery, n&g, they wander in, sit down and are put in a queue. Can always see a doctor within an hour. I'd go for that one any day rather than the telephone roulette we have here. In theory appointments are on line in the morning, oh no they aren't. Hope something can help soon before you are even poorlier, if that's even a word.

That trip sounds superb, galen, that's a wonderful holiday. Yes, grannyqueenie, cretan sunshine would help, there has to be a way. It's flipping cold here, rain beginning, have to go out soon and mind the grandchildren, or more accurately I think they mind us. In any case out in the rain it is. Oh well, you never know I might shrink and obey the physios instructions to loose weight

cornergran I saw on newspaper headlines the other day that those of us who need to lose weight may be sent to cookery classes by our GPs! That is not what I need- I would prefer for somebody to come and cook a nutritious meal here, with the correct calorie content etc. and I would be in heaven.

Fish and chips from M&S awaits me tonight- I have no desire to know the calorie count but no doubt if I looked it would be on the packet. I cannot be bothered cooking tonight.

The sun was out here, maybe it has returned to Crete to top it up there.

Our local surgery is first class. We've had house calls (when necessary) and, there is never a problem getting an appointment. Repeat prescriptions arrive at the village shop within 24 hours if urgent or 48 hours if not.

One last update before I log off until tomorrow afternoon.

Rory has been lying in the sunshine for the better part of this afternoon. MacSporran has been working in the garden. When MacS came in for a wee while, Rory followed him...it took some time, but he did it. When MacS went out again, Rory followed. He is never far from MacS's side. They share a strong bond.

Now I am waiting for a new hip and was at the Hospital for pre op thingy , given a sheaf of leaflets to be read ..... sigh ... DD1 has flipped through and come up with a gem .... I have to lose wt .... one suggestion is ...keep fit class ! another is to take up jogging ..... Well if I could do either I wouldn't be needing a new hip
