Maw I have had to remove so much nice furniture to have space to move around that I have nearly stopped crying , I know how you feel about the bed , but after one more "accident" , I gave in and threw my lovely kingsized out , the recliner is in the shed , replaced by the large ugly chair provided by the OT sad

Charleygirl Fri 22-Sept-17 17:37:25

aggie that is so sad- those chairs are huge and ugly.

Juliette thank you- what breed is that gorgeous young man?

Maw I am inclined to agree, you do not want to turn your home into a nursing home even if is a lot more work for you.

cornergran Fri 22-Sept-17 17:43:22

Juliette love the lodger dog. Oh dear dog envy is raising its head again.

Well, so many Virgoans - my Mum's star sign - sadly not mine so no perfection here. grin

Can understand the reluctance maw, wouldn't it be good if life came without all these difficult decisions? Here's hoping paw improves and you get some sleep tonight.

Take care all, enjoy the spag bol and wine charley, we will be toasting you this evening with the remains of the bottle we just had to open last evening because of all this talk of wine. grin

callgirl1 Fri 22-Sept-17 18:03:05

Happy Birthday Charleygirl! You share your birthday with my youngest son, he`s 46 today.
Reg the lodger dog looks a little disgruntled, but he`s still cute.
Maw, I`m so sorry about your problems, just wish there was some way that I could help.
I hope that Soop has managed her travelling alright today, such a long way to go on your own. I also hope that MacS and Rory are coping without her.
My leg`s playing up today, so the mountain of ironing has stayed a mountain, as I can`t stand for more than a few minutes. A few other jobs I`ve done in short bursts.

Bellanonna Fri 22-Sept-17 18:13:52

charley I'm 77 t the end of the month. Typical Libran. Indecisive and all the other things that go with my sign. My DD2 is a virgoan and typical of her sign. Perfection personified. can be irritating
Hope spagbol and vino were enjoyable.

Bellanonna Fri 22-Sept-17 18:15:30

Aggie ??

Gagagran Fri 22-Sept-17 18:17:25

I am exactly 3 weeks and 1 day older than you Charley. 1943 was a vintage year so a Very Happy Birthday my fellow Virgoan! Did Tara remember your special day? No? Thought not! wine flowers

Thinking of soop and hoping her family gathering is going well and that MacS and Rory are managing to keep the home fire burning .

Also wishing all those with poorly folk to care for all the best and hope that things get better soon. Or easier.

kittylester Fri 22-Sept-17 18:33:59

Take that Miniature Schnauzer away!! We will not have another! We will not have another, We will not have another!!!!

Many Happy Return charley winewinewine

Maw, I've got my carer's support hat on here - your District Nurse (or whatever they are called this week) or maybe AgeUK should be able to let you have the number to call for an assistive technology visit. You can get mats that alert you when they are stepped on (for by the bed) and pads that alert you should Paw get up off the bed. Lots of other things are available too and mostly free!
I would hate to make any part of my house look like a hospital at least for as long as possible.

You must be so fed up and tired sleeping with one eye and ear open without having to change beds so please see if there is anything like that to help you. I don't know whether I've suggested this before, but have you had a Carer's Assessment? If not, please ask and don't be fobbed off by having one over the phone. You are entitled to a visit so that SS can see the reality of your life.

Good luck to DD3 - please let us know what the outcome is. I know it's easy to say but please take care of yourself. I know lots of us wish we lived round the corner and could actually help.

Callgirl I hope your leg gets better - is it an ongoing thing or just a day for it to play silly b****rs?

We got Maisie back from the kennels today and she has followed DH round all day like a little dog. I wouldn't mind but she is supposed to be my cat. [cross]

The noise levels in our area haven't escalated yet so I can only imagine soop hasn't arrived yet! grin I hope she has a fabulous time and goes home to 2 loving males.

Charleygirl Fri 22-Sept-17 19:05:32

Thank you all. Gagagran we cannot help being perfect. (I wish!) I am not indecisive which I think is a good trait.

No Tara would only allow me to lie in until 8pm and then started to scratch the floor, the little minx. She knows that will get a reaction. I am waiting fOR madam to return home so that I can have my supper, switch on the heating and watch some recorded TV.

Everything is ready (and out of sight) for the trip to the vet tomorrow. All I have to do in the morning is close every door upstairs and then the kitchen door so that I "only" have one room to chase her around.

Callgirl I am not surprised that Maisie has stuck like a limpet to DH because she had been totally abandoned and who knows- DH may try to escape out of the bathroom window.

I have a bag of clothes for a charity. The one I can park closest to will be the benefactor. Three pairs of newly washed curtains and two more pairs to follow. The weather is going to be fair in London for most of next week so hopefully I will be able to sort them out. You must all be asleep now- I am going to sort out my supper- thanks again for all of your good wishes. I am so used to being on my own that it does not bother me.

callgirl1 Fri 22-Sept-17 20:51:39

CharleyG, it`s Kitty you should be addressing re Maisie, not me, lol!
Kitty, nearly 4 years ago I had a TKR, now the other knee is getting as bad as the first one, but I`m resisting having another op for as long as possible. But now and again it gets very painful, last time was about 2 months ago and it lasted a week. Fingers crossed this time won`t be as long.

annodomini Fri 22-Sept-17 21:22:03

Very late in the day, Charley, Happy Birthday and good wishes for a somewhat less stressful year to come. Flu jabs start here tomorrow - our medical centre does two consecutive Saturdays when all the 'oldies' in the town line up to be processed. You always meet people you know in that queue - it's quite a social occasion. However, my retired GP sister, just arrived from NZ, says there has been a nasty strain of flu in the Antipodes this year and she's not sure that it's included in the vaccine we are being given this winter. Still, it's worth having because there could well be more than one strain of the virus floating around.

Risking the wrath of GNHQ again .... it seems us kitcheners are such a scary lot now that there is now a thread for people who are afraid to come and join us ?

JaneD3 Fri 22-Sept-17 22:06:51

I am not scared! Where did you find that thread ?
Happy birthday to those who have birthdays today or soon. Good luck tonight Maw x

Crafting Fri 22-Sept-17 22:13:27

New Kitchen Phobia ?

Charleygirl Fri 22-Sept-17 22:14:25

Crafting I always knew that we were a bunch of old bags and so rude to each other at every opportunity- that is the way we are.

My apologies Callgirl it must be this age thing- I am one year older today and going doolally.

Maw I do hope that you have a more settled night tonight. Maybe be like Hattie and settle down earlier. Fingers crossed.

MawBroon Fri 22-Sept-17 22:21:59

Crafting that was my reaction when I saw the thread title too!! grin

Crafting Fri 22-Sept-17 22:22:54

charley less of the old bag if you please...I am more of a hold-all, or carpet bag. Roomy inside but a bit tatty on the outer edges grin. Galen of course would be a very elegant evening bag with pearl handles. grin

What sort of bag would you be charlie?

Crafting Fri 22-Sept-17 22:24:36

Good luck tonight maw. Hope you and paw have a better night. ?

Charleygirl Fri 22-Sept-17 22:37:15

Crafting I am not really sure- probably sharp bits on the corners but well planned and tasteful inside.

annodomini Fri 22-Sept-17 23:04:22

Goodnight Maw. I hope it's a peaceful one and you are able to get enough sleep to keep you going. 'Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?' could just as well be translated as 'who cares for the carers?' A question that doesn't have satisfactory answers. Take care of yourself when you can. A wee nap in the afternoon works wonders. xx moon

(Who does she think she is, quoting Latin? Boris Johnson?)

MawBroon Fri 22-Sept-17 23:38:21

One thing nobody can criticise is the intellectual tone of the kitchen! Quotes in Latin are second nature to us here.
"Nemo me impune lacessit"

phoenix Sat 23-Sept-17 03:17:32

Awake at stupid o clock, hopefully will get back to sleep, meanwhile good wishes to all.

cornergran Sat 23-Sept-17 03:21:22

Me too, phoenix. Horrid isn't it?

MawBroon Sat 23-Sept-17 08:25:02

Midnight feasts in the Kitchen?
That will get us on the Norty step!
I hope you both managed to get back to sleep before too long and left the rest of us some of the flapjacks

NanaandGrampy Sat 23-Sept-17 09:13:07

Good Morning all !!

Hope Tara was not too much of a challenge to be caught this morning Charley and she is soon home again and voicing her displeasure !!

Id be a suitcase corner capacious , solid and with room for the kitchen sink !! :-)

I'm on the fence about the flu jab ann the few times Ive had it , Ive spent a week in bed feeling very sorry for myself. I didn't have it last year and also didn't catch anything. As I still feel off colour I probably wont get it again.

I slept better again last night and do seem to be coughing less and wonder of wonders I am no longer wheezing all the time . Half way through my antibiotics so its looking good. I am looking forward to being back to myself as being this tired , grumpy old lady does not suit me !!

I am crafting today and if I can summon up the enthusiasm sorting out one double wardrobe which is half paperwork and niff naff and trivia and half handbags and blankets !!

Hope everyone has a relaxing Saturday !!
