Dear Self,
I know you struggle sometimes but in case I don't tell you enough, you're beautiful. Thank you for being so strong and transparent, the world sees you even when you feel invisible. I appreciate your heart and your stubbornness. your willingness to love even after being discarded and forgotten is admirable. I'm so proud to know that you've grown to acknowledge your worth.

Actually, I can just imagine Trump standing looking in his mirror every morning uttering such c**p to himself - well, without the "I know you struggle sometimes" bit, obviously.

You will never gain anyone's approval by begging for it.

When you stand confident in your own worth, respect follows.

I'm not beautiful, clever or perfect and Notes to Self won't make me so. But I've now got to an age when I accept me for who I am - scars, warts an' all. I hate these quotes that daily pop up on FB etc. They all seem to be aimed at building up self-centredness and expectation, and rarely empathy and the generosity to see good in others. Like the 'Because you're worth it' advert. I'm not worth anything I haven't worked for.

Note to self - the more time you spend gazing at your navel and contemplating packaged advice, the less time you have to actually DO something about your own problems or help someone else whose situation is worse.

Maybe we need an extension to Pedants' Corner called Platitude Corner??

It would have worked if I had left out the A and told everyone to read it out loud - but I am a compulsively correct speller.

You do need to get the reference to lead in pencils, too. All in all, not a very successful saying.
