Today, I will do one thing to help myself.
It doesn't matter how small the step is, as long as it helps me move forward.

Note to Self .....

Be yourself.
People don't have to like you, but you don't have to care.

illtellhim, I have cme to admire your persistence! grin

C'mon then Maw ... your turn ... grin

kittylester Mon 11-Sept-17 08:05:49

I got it Elegran grin

Imperfect27 Mon 11-Sept-17 08:11:57

Yes Elegran - funny! smile

lemongrove Mon 11-Sept-17 08:32:03

Does this have to be self help or can I post anything??
Because I have been thinking: if I don't post on Gransnet, do I actually exist?

MawBroon Mon 11-Sept-17 08:32:20

Oh we all GOT it but I also know how meticulous Elegran is in her use of language. smile
How about this as an illustration of illtellhim's post of 07.45

Elegran Mon 11-Sept-17 08:45:51

Lemongrove Philosophy alert. Do any of us REALLY exist at all? Does ANYBODY OR ANYTHING really exist outside our minds? Is the universe just something constructed in the imagination?

It has to be the imagination of YOU, the person reading this in front of your screen. There is no-one else, nothing else, no earth, no sun, no stars, just a solitary consciousness creating everything and everyone else.

Can you PROVE any different? Your senses tell you that you are sitting in a chair, seeing a room, smelling the flowers, hearing the radio, tasting the coffee, but your senses all operate through your brain. You hear what people say, watch TV, read the papers, learn about the outside world, but what if the same brain is inventing the words and pictures?

Best not to think too hard about it!

lemongrove Mon 11-Sept-17 08:51:07

?make a great film wouldn't it? Along the lines of The Matrix, but even weirder.
I type words on Gransnet, therefore I am.
Are you in my dream, or am I in yours?

lemongrove Mon 11-Sept-17 08:53:35

I think that I am about to get the bus into town to look for a new jacket, but in reality I may still be in bed, or indeed, not be at all ( so maybe I shouldn't be wasting my money on buying clothes.)

Elegran Mon 11-Sept-17 08:54:21

It has probably been done already, with Patrick Stewart in the lead. (Lead not led - but maybe . . .)

annsixty Mon 11-Sept-17 08:54:53

I'm really scared now.?

MawBroon Mon 11-Sept-17 08:55:33

Just as, Elegran, we may THINK someone is who they say they are.....but who knows if the light is on when the fridge is shut.

Elegran Mon 11-Sept-17 08:57:14

Don't panic, annsixty, if you invented Gransnet with all these lovely people to chat to, you will never be alone!

Elegran Mon 11-Sept-17 08:58:50

Maw We could always just leave the fridge door shut - but then we'd never know.

kittylester Mon 11-Sept-17 09:00:05

But, what if Ann only thinks she invented GN? I think I did!

lemongrove Mon 11-Sept-17 09:02:17

But what about all the unlovely ones Elegran ? ?

Elegran Mon 11-Sept-17 09:05:33

Uninvent the unlovely ones and keep the fridge door closed!

Elegran Mon 11-Sept-17 09:07:29

kitty so you must have invented ann and her conviction that SHE invented it. But you can't have, because I did, AND I invented you and your invention of ann

kittylester Mon 11-Sept-17 09:10:38

But, who invented you Elegran?

lemongrove Mon 11-Sept-17 09:11:50

I invented ALL OF YOU!

Elegran Mon 11-Sept-17 09:13:53

Man looking out of upper window into darkness: "Who's that down there?"

Man in garden: "Who's that up there saying Who's that down there?"

From above: "Who's that down there saying Who's that up there saying Who's that down there?"

"Who's that up there saying Who's that down there saying Who's that up there saying Who's that down there?"

"Who's that down there saying Who's that up there saying Who's that down there saying Who's that up there saying Who's that down there?"

etc ad nauseam.

lemongrove Mon 11-Sept-17 09:17:20

Now, my Father used to say that Elegran only it was a man shouting into a cellar ( possibly at The Argy Bargy Bar.)
The question is, who said it first?
I am prepared to believe that in an alternative Universe, you are actually my Father.

Elegran Mon 11-Sept-17 09:23:16

Little lamb, who made thee
Dost thou know who made thee?
Gave thee life & bid thee feed.
By the stream & o'er the mead?
William Blake, The Lamb, songs of Innocence

"My mother," answered Telemakhos, "tells me I am son to Odysseus, but it is a wise child that knows his own father."
Homer, Odyssey

Elegran Mon 11-Sept-17 09:25:10

lemongrove Maybe your father was my father. That was one of his quotes - sometimes the cellar, sometimes the window.

Elegran Mon 11-Sept-17 09:25:53

He also said "Who dat down dere?" but that is no longer PC
